    Disappointed

    • Written by from Canterbury

I previously used an apple ipad smart case (grey) for my iPad 3rd gen. I never worried about the case in all year around until selling it. That is really a nice case. HOWEVER, this new smart case for iPad air is TERRIBLE! iPad cannot stand stably like before. The front of new case just has three parts, not like former version (four parts), so the stability is decreased. The iPad will fall down when i just touch it. The triangular holder is really not reliable.

    Not recommended at all

    • Written by from Weybridge

Trust me I love all apple products, except their cases...
But I decided to get it for the sake of believing in it once again.

    Boy was I wrong.

Terrible build quality, interior and leather itself feel okay
However, hinge where the top portion of the cover meets the bottom portion of the smart case is very fragile and flimsy; it does not fully close properly.

I'm returning mine and will revert back to 3rd party cases once again.

    Not worth the money.........

    • Written by from Shrewsbury

Having switched from the original red leather Smart Cover to this it does just not have the feeling of quality that I expected, no magnetic clasps to hold the fold of the case, it just flaps over and leaves a lipped area when folded. Just not as classy as expected, the iPad almost echoes when typing in the case and the case sort of feels foam like. Big disappointment for the cost price.

The fit of this case is really good (plus point apple) but the fold back cover is truly awful and needs a redesign asap (are you listening apple) It slips and falls and the hinge will break before the cover wears out. Mine already looking shaky and it's only a few days old. Is it really leather?? Certainly doesn't feel like it. Come on Apple put some thought into the design of the cover.

    Not so bad

    • Written by from Maidstone

This case seems to be getting a bit of an unfair rap; it's not THAT bad.

It's primary function is to protect the iPad. £65 for a new case or (in my case) £739 for a new iPad. It's a no brainer.

The case fully covers the iPad while allowing access to all ports and, importantly, maintaining the slim profile without adding any bulk. That seems to be the whole point of this case and, if that's what you want, then this case does the job quite well.

Sure, it has it's down points. The screen cover near the hinge with the back case doesn't sit firmly atop the screen which will annoy some. I would hate to drop my iPad from anything higher then three feet onto anything less than a deep pile carpet or a mattress - I don't think it offers much in the way of impact protection. Also, when standing it's not always the most stable; if watching a movie while flying, my iPad has fallen into my lap during mild turbulence. However, it's fine when perched on a desk in the office or at home.

Personally, I like the case and consider it money well spent. If it was 75% of its asking price, I would have given it four stars; it is a bit on the expensive side.

There are more sturdy cases out there that will offer more viewing angles, are less likely to flip over when standing up and will provide much better impact protection but the compromise is that they will add about 50% onto the weight of the iPad and make it twice as thick. To me at least, that defeats the purpose of the iPad Air.

It's horses for courses; much depends on exactly what you want your case to do. If you want reasonable protection without adding bulk and weight, this case will do you fine I'd avoid the red though as mine has got grubby quite quickly.

In summary, if I could turn the clock back, I'd buy the same case but in black.

    Better than reviews say

    • Written by from stoke-on-trent

Been to the apple shop today who showed me the red smart case, I'm glad I went because the reviews so far slatted it. After looking at one with my ipad in the stability it quite good the back case fits beautifully and the colour is very vibrant . The only thing I would say is the left had side does not close completely but I think this will once it has been used. The price is steep but it looks fantastic and apple know what they are doing. I would give it three and a half stars as when you fold the front cover back it is a bit tricky to make the triangle compared to the older generation cases.

I disappointed in this cover, it only has three folds so tri-angel is very high. It's over priced . You get two apple stickers to stick on if you buy the red case ! the logo is not indented into the case

Awful quality, wears out within weeks

    • Written by from SOUTHAMPTON

I've now had two of these cases after the local store agreed to swap my first one but after experiencing exactly the same problems I shall be returning it.

The magnets pickup iron/metal filings which then get engrained in the microfibre, you'll have odd rectangles marking the flap within a few days and they're near on impossible to remove.

The leather stains easily and looks grubby within days. The corners will discolour quickly where you hold it and the corners of the flap curl up like an old book.

The cover flap doesn't even sit flush with the screen when its shut (was told this is a design feature!!)

It falls over constantly when using the flap as a stand (which also places the microfiber side on whatever you're sitting it on meaning it attracts even more dirt)

It honesty feels like you'll snap the ipad trying to remove it sometimes

You must do better than this Apple, its simply not up to the standards I've come to expect over the last 10 years.

Nice case, totally awful as a stand

    • Written by from NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE

This is a one star review only because the system would not let me rate it as 0 (zero) which I would if I could.
I had a smart case with my iPad 2 and it was great as a case and it was a useful stand.

The new 3 fold design of these new cases is just terrible. I lost count the number of times it collapsed whilst i was watching a video or whilst typing. I got so fed up I bought a new non apple cover/case.

How this ever passed Quality Assurance just astounds me.

    Avoid at all costs.

We bought this case for my wife on day of launch of the ipad air in UK. The case looked gorgeous. At the end of January the case looks discoloured, worn and v v tatty. My wife is really disappointed and unlike other Apple products I cannot and would not recommend this

    Very disappointed!

    • Written by from Landrum

Normally all Apple products exceed my expectations, but sadly this product is quite disappointing. Having previously had an iPad 2 with a leather Smart Cover, I was expecting the same functionality with this new cover. Whilst the new product has a great fit and punchy colour, it falls down on the stand function of the cover. The previous version had four folds with a sturdy magnet function whilst this only has three folds and a magnet connection along the edge. This leads to instability when using the cover as a stand. It collapses easily and can fall over with the slightest touch. If you tend to use this feature on a cover, I would look for an alternative.

    So disappointed

    • Written by from CARRICKFERGUS

I am an Apple devotee but it pains me to say that I was massively disappointed in this case. I understand that it has to be made of a light construction so it doesn't take away from the lightness of the iPad Air but it means that for a lot of money you are not getting a lot of case. It fits snuggly looks good but when you start using it that is when it lets you down. When you open the front cover of the case and start to use it to prop up, it doesn't really work and the hinge between the body of the case and cover is very flimsy. I have in fact now sold it on eBay and bought a Knomo case for £15 less which is awesome.

    iPad Air Smart Case

    • Written by from bridgnorth

I really don't know what everyone is complaining about this case is superb, it fits snugly, protects the iPad, looks great although the colours are not the most inspiring. I chose the red case and love it.
As for standing it up, well i don't tend to do that so that's not a problem, but it stands better than the old iPad 3 case.
The price is a bit expensive but nothing compared to replacing a broken iPad, and its leather which is nice.
Finally don't be put off by the negative reviews its a great case, compact, stylish, light and not bulky, and most of all it protects the iPad, don't get me wrong if you drop it from a height unless its in a big thick rubber case it wont do it any good, that's not really what this case is for.

    Great case

    • Written by from Halstead

I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews, in some respects though yes as when in the most upright position it can be knocked over very easily, but for the negatives that is really it. The case feels great and holds the iPad very well, the leather is good quality and the colour is vibrant, it protects the back from scratches very well when in keyboard mode it holds up well but the upright mode would be great for films, tv and facetime. I would highly recommend the case if you can afford to pay for it as it's a great accompaniment for the iPad air

    A great case

    • Written by from wakefield

Having read the other reviews I was unsure as to wether to buy the case or not, due to other reviewers saying it is of poor quality and the stand doesn't work, however I bought it. Whilst it is admittedly very expensive, it does it's job perfectly. I have found the magnetic stand function to work excellently every time and the overall feel of the case is that it is of a high quality.

I have had both iPad 3rd gen and the iPad air smart cases and I have to say I think the new one is better quality and stands up better. This case is more stable when up right as the 3 sections are bigger and stronger than the case that fits the 3rd gen iPad. I would recommend this product to anyone who is thinking of buying it. It is a bit pricey but it's worth it because of the protection it give the iPad.
