Nice but very soft leather - and falls over too easily

    • Written by from Camberley

Just got this and it is really well made and fits very nicely indeed. Looks great.
    Two problems-
The leather is so silky smooth, that when trying to prop the iPad Air up in "upright" mode, it nearly always just slides down and crashes backwards. A real serious issue!
The other problem is that after 24 hours, the very soft leather front is showing marks, and believe me I have been very gentle with it!
    I'm not happy!

    Expensive, Yet Perfect

    • Written by from Reading

I very rarely use cases for my devices but due to the need to use my iPad Air more frequently outside my home I felt it was necessary.

I wasn't totally convinced about dropping £65 on a case but am totally happy with my purchase and feel it was money well spent.

The iPad Air fits beautifully into the case and feels perfect. Because the case pretty much sits flush with the iPad's screen it does not get in the way at all, it's classic Apple and oozes quality. The inside is amazingly soft and you know it will protect your device.

Yes it does add extra weight to the iPad but it's not hugely noticeable and no matter which case you choose it's an inevitable disadvantage.

£65 is not cheap but it really is the perfect companion to the iPad Air. Great quality, great protection and gives me peace of mind from scratches.

    Ipad air smart case

    • Written by from Northampton

Purchased the case yesterday and am very disappointed by the quality. The case is not stable and keeps collapsing whilst in use. Simply I don't consider the case is fit for purpose.

    This let's Apple down...

    • Written by from Windsor

This is the first time I've opened the packaging of an Apple product and felt like I had a cheap knock off. The cover design has changed, they now only have 3 panels instead of 4. Because of this the basic engineering of the product doesn't work. With only 3 panels the iPad doesn't stand, it slips down, because the missing panel is not there to avoid slipping. Secondly, the original smart case had aluminium hinges, these have disappeared, and been replaced by a leather fold. This doesn't seal the face of the iPad properly, which means that (a) it looks cheap and (b) it will, no doubt, allow dust in which the previous cover did not. Very disappointed, I'll be taking it back...

    Goes down quicker than...

    • Written by from ENFIELD

... a $10 ... iPad case ;). Falls over far too easy. I get that the smaller width means they can't get the 4th fold but thats and issue with that design, so a 'new' design is needed.

    Good quality but design problems

    • Written by from Witham

Pros: Very good quality case with good back scratch protection.

Cons: Fails as a stand as it falls over easily unlike the previous 4 fold version.
It was imposable to plug in even the thinnest of audio cables, including the 'slim plug' type. So I was forced to hack the case with a pair of snips to enlarge the audio hole.

    Looks nice but doesn't work

    • Written by from London

We've got the tan colored case which looks nice but is completely useless, as it keeps on collapsing when I try to raise the back to type comfortably, or stand up to watch anything to get the device stand up. Very unstable. The smartcase from the IPAD 1 was much much better (but didn't look as nice)

    Quality, good. Practicality, OK.

    • Written by from London

This is my first ipad. Have always enjoyed android tablets before this. The cover is made of quality materials and fits the ipad perfectly. Although it is made by Apple so that's the minimum requirement, I guess. The problem is as follows: when you are using the "smart" features of the cover the lower position is slightly too low. There isn't an in between position. Also because the case isn't securely supported by the "smart" folding magnet stand, I find it slips away easily and defeats its purpose somewhat. For the price I would say it is, unfortunately, not worth it and there is a flaw in Its design. However if your not interested in the landscape positions then I would recommend it highly as just a cover on its own.

    Folds up

    • Written by from Islington

Like many of the other reviewers I think Apple MUST update the design of this case it does fold up way too easily. When you update the design I will be handing this back for an exchange.
Its such a nice case nice quality leather perfect fit and nice to hold, why didn't you spot this obvious folding up flaw at the product testing stage?

    Just buy it.

    • Written by from Brownhills

Ok, I'll go mad if I read another review that states it falls over when using the stand feature. The first time I tried, it half collapsed, but after my second attempt it was solid. You have to feel for the magnet engaging. It is very expensive, hence 4 and not 5 star review. Is it worth it? Totally. It feels and looks great when fitted and spending £65 is far better than worrying about scratching the back and bezel around the screen. Far classier than an aftermarket case. Fits like a glove. You'll love it.

I got this cover with my iPad. There are much better covers for half the price. It does the job but it's grossly overpriced.

I purchased the case with some doubt as some of the reviews are tough. The case is excellent it has the cut outs perfectly lined up and has a precision feel to it and very soft and smooth. Yes its pricey but thats the price for quality and yes you can find cheaper alternatives but I honestly say for the money it can't be beat. You would easily pay £80-£100 for a similar quality alternative leather case. Also glad it doesn't add much bulk at all.

Only real gripe is that it could be a bit more solid in the stand position.

    Poor hinge design

    • Written by from London

Finally there is a leather case designed by Apple. That is great. What's not great is that the designers seemed to have started cutting corners. The hinge is not reinforced in any way and when closing the lid this causes a gap. That makes it unfit for the use with an Apple product which all about perfection. Please address the issue.

    Impossible to keep clean!!!

    • Written by from Chalfont St Peter

Why drop the plastic version? .. I don't have a problem with the design except that once it gets dirty don't even think of cleaning it... You can't!
Also ...TOO expensive for what it is.

    Almost £70 for what?

    • Written by from LONDONDERRY

I feel cheated. This case is certainly not worth the money. It feels like plastic. Not leather. It's easily marked too. The good thing is that it fits snugly. It would need to at the price they are charging.

    Great case but pricey

    • Written by from Carlisle

Perfect case for my iPad. Looks great and works fine! This case helps maintain the iPad air lightness, unlike other cases on the market which I found to bulky! The case does not slip down if you fold it correctly ;-) as a hint there is a mag strip that holds it when trying to fold it as a stand. Only 4 stars due to the price point, this could have been retailed at a lower cost..

    Very poor design

    • Written by from Stranraer

Just bought iPad Air along with apple leather case. Good snug fit but sadly the stand is not stable at all. Just keeps collapsing. I also bought leather case for my iPhone 5s and disappointed that my Bose headphones do not fit audio socket due to small hole in case. I would not buy either of these two cases and Apple should consider replacing both FOC.

    Expensive but worth it

    • Written by from Billericay

Bought this case after having a cheaper, but not bad, case for my iPad2 and always wished I had purchased the apple case. Looked at these reviews afterwards as I was having the same trouble with the case not standing up. Then I looked at the pictures and realised I was doing it wrong. When used correctly the case holds the iPad securely in both positions. Feels good to the touch and is a quality product. Typed this review while the iPad was in the upright position without any problems. Worth the extra money.
