    Not so smart case

    • Written by from Bedlington

My wife and I both purchased cases for our mini iPads they looked and performed really well, they made the handling easy when reading. BUT the oils from our hands soon turned them from looking good to looking grubby, this has been our experience of a blue and a brown leather cover which were less than a year old. Mine did prove to be robust enough to save the mini from certain death when dropped, but the leather needs to be more durable. Have ordered different make as ashamed of Apple's product, an expensive blunder

After spending almost a year using cheaper, fake/faux leather products I finally succumbed and bought the real thing.

    Cannot recommend highly enough.

Fabulous feel, looks good and very slimline.

If you have any doubts, don't !

    Money well spent!

    Feels like a book

    • Written by from Rotherham

Holding the iPad without a case isn't actually very comfortable, the cold metal is a bit unpleasant. However adding one of the leather cases makes it like holding a beautiful leather bound book. It is very tactile and is actually nice to touch. Only one problem, where the lid folds it causes lines to form on the screen, they do wipe off but it's a little annoying. Other niggles include the slight gap at the hinge side when closed.

Looks Smart - shame about magnetic catch

    • Written by from North Shields

The black leather case looks Smart and offers good protection, which is just as well because the magnetic catch facility to raise the ipad into landscape/portrait viewing position doesn't hold and it collapses - very annoying. The only good thing is the wake up/sleep facility which is useful and saves wear and tear on the buttons.

Not worth the money as it's got so grubby.

    • Written by from Killinick

I bought this in red & while it's a good fit I'm so disappointed with it as it got really grubby very quickly. Having spent €70 on it, thinking it was a good investment, I've now turned around & bought a Belkin case for half the price & I'm much happier with it. I'm the only person using it but it looks filthy & it's impossible to clean it. It's as if it absorbs dirt. The fit is good but I wasn't overly impressed with it as a stand either, I find the Belkin case way superior. It's too pricey not to be perfect.

    Good quality, not perfect

    • Written by from London

Feels solid and good quality, and generally fits well. It provides 100% coverage/protection when closed, and is nice to the touch.

When I open the lid and flip around the back and place it flat on a table, the tension in the leather hinge prevents the iPad from lying flat. The entire iPad raises off the table at the hinge side, and the only way this will resolve is if the leather loosens up/stretches, so I will have to wait and see if this resolves. Most people seem to be complaining about the gap by the hinge when the lid is *closed* - this is a tiny gap compared to the 1cm off the table that the iPad rests when the lid is folded open!

Also, when folded around the back, the lid doesn't magnetically attach to the back of the iPad.

With all things Apple, you pay a premium and so it makes the niggles harder to swallow, but no product is perfect. Generally this is a good quality case.

Brilliant case, after using the Smart Cover initially this is much better not only covering the back of my device but all giving a great stand for typing

Very pleased - lovely little case

    • Written by from Stockport

Fits perfectly, high grade leather, turns iPad on/off every time when cover opened or closed. Yes, cover doesn't magnetically stick to back of case, but so what? Doesn't affect my enjoyment of using it at all. I changed from a full size iPad to a Mini Retina because, at half the weight, the Mini is a true mobile device, and this is the perfect case to go with it. Recommended! Mine is black. I'd imagine brightly-coloured ones might get a bit grubby if you're not careful. It is quite delicate (i.e. thin construction), but it's so slim and light, that's no problem for me. I'll just look after it carefully.

    Great case but too thick

    • Written by from London

I love my new i pad mini. I love these mart cases having had one on my iPad, but this one on the iPad mini seems thicker, so an awful lot of headphones won't plug into the socket due to the length of thickness of the case. You end up having to prise that end of the i pad out of the case, which surely defeats the object of a case. Shame because they are great cases.

    Great product

    • Written by from SHEFFIELD

I have the black one on iPad Mini retina, plus the same on iPad air, and the black iPhone 5 case too (all leather).

The leather on all is durable and doesn't wear noticeably (i've been using for a while now). I did try the brown one on the phone (i love brown leather), but that was a mess in less than 2 weeks. Black is definitely the colour to get as all the others look a mess in no time.

I'd recommended the black, but not any of the other colours

    Problem with some headphone plugs

    • Written by from Strathaven

I have 3 sets of headphones - Sennheiser - Bowers & Wilkins - Sony. The B&W are quite new and the stereo plug body is small enough in diameter to allow full insertion through the case aperture for correct connection. The other makes are older and the case aperture is too small for correct insertion. I am very reluctant to attempt to open up the case hole and must now seek out some sort of extension to solve the problem. Lovely case otherwise.

    Lightning Adapter Plug too thick.

    • Written by from Uxbridge

Whilst the Smart Case is a beautiful addition to my iPad Mini, I use a 30 pin to lightning Short adapter, (Apple original @ £35), to utilise the many old style USB leads I have around the home and office. The lightning plug on this adapter is THICKER than the one that comes with the iPad and doesn't fit in the recess on the smart case without being forced in, this is not good when you have paid so much for a dedicated case and charging lead (£90 in total).

It is necessary to file a chamfer on the top side of the plug to get it to fit, Apple really need to make sure that they test fit all their products before putting them on sale.

I would have given this great case 5 stars if it where not for this basic design fault.

    Excellent case

    • Written by from Birkenhead

Just bought this after using the Smart Cover since I bought my mini. This is a much better design as it protects the rear of my iPad mini and it fits beautifully.

I've got a 64GB black mini and bought the black leather Smart Case. Looks absolutely brilliant... now my only decision is do I sell my mini and get the Retina version when it's released. Decisions decisions!

    Well worth the money!
