Now on my third 5s charger!

    • Written by from Norwich

I brought my 5s in February and now it's September I am currently on my 3rd Charger. I also have an iPad which has the same cable so I have used that in conjunction with my iPhone 5s and iPad at the same time. I then brought another from apple (cable) which also broke - it is apparently called the 'double chin' which is where the end of the cable doubles up and starts to become 'iffy' and slowly degrading quality. I therefore decided to buy a cheap one online which also failed to work within 1 week of buying it- Granted it was not an apple product but still- none of the cables that I have brought work. Clearly there is a universal default with the cables, this is also a bad point as all Apple cables are very expensive! But overall, I still love my iPhone and all products, its just a shame that the cables don't work.

    3rd cable in 2 years

    • Written by from Carshalton Beeches

I've now spent £45 on 3 cables, I carry the cable with me everywhere I go and gets used several times a day. Every cable breaks in the same spot just below the housing! I refuse to buy a another one, I'm surprised that with the pride Apple has in its products and refusal to standardise cables to Micro USB and realise inferior proprietary cable has made me so anti-iPhone.

    Not fit for purpose

    • Written by from Dublin

I am an Apple fan and usually like everything about their products. In our household we have 4 iPhone 5 s and each one of us has had problems with the lightening charger, which fails to function after a few months of use . I have taken it back to Apple but had a very bad experience, where they made it difficult to replace. Where is the pride in the product. It is clear that the product is not fit for purposes and no we (all 4 of us) don't yank it out or mistreat.

Come on Apple take responsibility for the quality of your products and the service to loyal customers. Do they read and monitor these comments?

    Where the quality gone?

Terrible product it's expensive poorly made. Frustrating being with out. Ive got through several this past year I find myself having to buy a spare every time so I don't have to be without. I never had this problem before going For Apple phones. Make the price reflect the quality or make durable cables. I use to believe Apple made only quality products but I've been proven wrong.

I'm now on my third cable after only owning my iPhone 1 year. Apple obviously needs to go back to the drawing board with this product. Come on!

Myself, my parter and my son all have iPhone 5s and in less than a year I am on my 4th charging cable, my partner is on his 2nd and my son is on his 6th. It may be worth saying that we had iPhone 4s for 2 years before the 5s and the cable that came with the phone lasted the full 2 years with no issues. Didn't expect all this extra expense just to keep already costly phones/contracts running!

    Poor product

I have had my iPhone 5s since March and already I am on my third one of these leads. They just stop working for no reason. Mine is always left plugged into the wall (not always turned on) so there is no wear & tear on them. Very disappointed with these - at £15 each, they are not cheap to replace.

Considering how much devices with the new lightening charger such as the latest iPads and the iPhone 5s cost I was expecting the lightening cable to out do its 30-pin counterpart.... how wrong I was! The 30-pin cable that I had with my iPhone 4 lasted me 2 years whereas within 5 months of owning the iPhone 5s I have been forced to buy new lightening cables at a rate of roughly once a month!

Like the earphones, this cable only lasts a few months if you are lucky. I have had enough of spending too much money each time which isnt worth parting with!

Poor lifetime - not fit for purpose. Apple should provide free replacements

    • Written by from Swindon

Similar to other reviewers, my daughters have suffered failed lightning cables, whereas previous style cables have lasted without issue.
I find the £15 price of a replacement cable an insult given the extremely poor life expectancy.
Come on Apple - please treat your customers with some respect on this please and recall or at least admit you got it wrong. From a household with 10+ apple products...

    Poor Lasting Quality

    • Written by from Stevenage

I have had 4 of these cables - all originals that came with devices (iPod x 2, iPhone, iPad) and all are now not working. I have been very careful with them after experiencing the delicate nature of the old style cables and yet they still failed. One failed after only three weeks.! However, the good news is that after speaking to Apple, they assure me that the cables will be replaced free of charge if I take them to an Apple store. I'll let you know how I get on... But even with that, I don't fancy having to trek to my nearest store (20 miles) every time I need to get my cables replaced! MAKE THEM STRONGER AND MORE RELIABLE PLEASE APPLE!!!

    A sound, reliable cable

    • Written by from TAUNTON

I'm joining the ranks of the reviewers who don't know what all the criticism is about - other than "Apple Bashing", or people simply following the crowd. I have had an iPad, an iPad mini, and two iPhone 5s which need the lightning cable. They range between 6 months and 36 months old. Not once have I had a cable break or malfunction. I think the reviewer who said the problem people have may be due to dust/dirt in the socket is probably right - I have cases on all my devises. Also one has to remember that these devices are sophisticated pieces of technology, and whilst robust (I've dropped my phone and iPad loads of times without breaking them), they still have to be maintained and looked after.

Dire quality, unfit for anything other than static uses

    • Written by from York

I need to charge my phone & iPad at work and, as a consequence, have always taken a lightning cable (or two) with me. They're well looked after - neatly wound, and put in the safe / small objects section of my bike bag.

Nonetheless, I've now had 2 lightning cables die on me in 2yrs, compared to one dead 30-pin adaptor in... ooo... 7 or 8 years of multi-iPod and iPad use.

Lightning might be semi-adequate! if used in only one location, with the connector held rigorously straight. For actual use as a real-world charger cable, though, it's beyond terrible. Quality control seems to've gone to pot, when compared with its predecessor.

Expensive, shoddy, and unfit for purpose.

    Defective Cables and Charging Port:-/!!

    • Written by from Olathe

I am actually very angry about the FACT that there is a problem with the cables for the iPhones and Apple seems uninterested in admitting or addressing the problem. I am on my FOURTH cable!!!!! No, I am not an idiot who pulls the cable from the port. I am a 51 year old businessperson who spends hard earned money on what I HOPE is quality equipment and accessories. To add insult to injury when I go to the "genius":-/ bar, they act as if I'm stupid and pretend that they are oblivious to the problem (there was another customer there with the SAME issue BTW!).

I am angry because I bought my first Apple computer almost THIRTY YEARS AGO and have been a loyal customer. I used them in my business and personal life. Sure, there have been bumps along the way, BUT this problem is especially annoying because of the lack of acknowledgement by Apple and refusal to admit a mistake. Sure, lots of cables are working fine, but for many of us, they are a HUGE FAIL:-/!!

I EXPECT MORE FROM APPLE. It doesn't take a "genius" to figure out that customer loyalty is the foundation for success. If you're making someone like me who has spent THOUSANDS of dollars over the years this upset, red flags should be going off somewhere in your organization! WOW!

    DON'T USE PHONE WHILE CHARGING

    • Written by from Cardiff

Mine also broke after just over a year, thankfully I'd already bought a spare when I was on holiday in the States (they're marginally cheaper over there). When I went to the Cardiff store to see if they could fix it they said that it breaks when it twists when you use it while its charging. But I agree Apple should make a product that is sturdier and able to withstand this sort of usage.

So moral of the story - don't use it while it's charging kids! ;-)
