    Great for amateurs

Although i feel i know a lot about gadget I am not very knowledgable about setting up wifi networks. First up the setup is very easy. I setup using my Macbook air.

Once setup i have noticed a massive performance increase across all my device from the superhub and the range is simply unbelievable! I used to have problems in my house with range but they are completely gone now, which is great. I was even able to add a WPS printer really easy too, from the base station menu, exactly what i was hoping for :-) All in all I am very happy and would strongly recommend this solution to anyone, regardless of skill level.

    Quality product.

    • Written by from SALE

I've just purchased this today from my local Apple Store. By the time I got it home and out of the box, set my Virgin Media Super Hub to Modem Mode, plugged in the AirPort Time Capsule, downloaded the latest firmware via the AirPort Utility App on my iPhone, I was done in 10 mins. It was so simple to set up and I've noticed a performance boost for all my wifi connected devices now. Time Machine is set up on my Mac, and backing up seamlessly in the background. The build quality is superb, as to be expected from Apple.

    Seriously unhappy

    • Written by from Ainsdale

I bought the 3TB Time Capsule to extend my current WIFI network, act as a wireless access point for a printer and to enable wireless Time-Machine back-ups from our home network of 4 Mac computers. I have previously used an old Airport Extreme with hard-drive plugged in, which worked perfectly (until software updates to the Airport Utility made it defunct). However, please be aware: the new Time Capsule will not extend a WIFI network as suggested in the product literature, unless this is initiated from an Apple router. The only way satisfactory way to use this device is to hardwire it in to your DLNA router via ethernet. As far as I can see, the only reason to go for a Time Capsule in the first place, is so that it can be used as a wireless access point - which means it is not really fit for purpose!!! Since my DLNA router needs to be in our living room, near our Sky box, this is never going to work....

I advise everyone to read the support threads regarding WIFI set-up of this device, before even considering buying.

Mine will be going back to the local Apple Store tomorrow. What a waste of an evening trying to get it to work (not happy)....

    Excellent Product

In response to the above review from Tim Q, If you want to extend your current Wi-Fi network the best way to do that is through Powerline wi-fi extender technology. It's cheap too. It works by connecting your router to your home electrical circuit via an ethernet cable and a 13amp plug through an adaptor. All the major router brands make the adapters. You can also use powerline adapters to run an ethernet cable directly from the mains plug socket via an adapter into your sky box or whatever freeing you to place your router wherever you want it.

This upgrade to the Time Capsule is well worth it. It is so much faster and the 3GB is a welcome upgrade to our old 1GB capsule.

    USB 2 Connectivity ?

    • Written by from North Harrow

Plus points: easy to set up and looks very good.
Negatives: USB 2. why not USB 3 or, even better, thunderbolt.

I bought this to consolidate my movie and TV collections, which are spread amongst various hard drives at present. Im sure it will work ok but the time to transfer 1TB of data is coming up as 2 days (hard wired)

Excellent product but beware of awful packaging, falling time capsules....

    • Written by from CHIPPENHAM

This new version of the Time Capsule is an excellent refresh of the Time Capsule lineup and replaces the previous Time Capsule I bought 6 months ago as I want the ac wireless and improved range. This TC has a much smaller footprint on my desk and it's wireless range is greatly improved. The ease of setting this TC up means a 5 year old could probably do this. The automatic backups give great peace of mind too. If you have a lot of data or like to backup your mac regularly then i recommend you buy this. You won’t regret it. Sure it’s not cheap, but it does the job like no other backup drive/system.

Luckily I had read a previous review and I was still very careful, however when I opened mine over the bed it still fell out of the box. If I had not read this review I would most likely have opened it on my desk as I do most of my purchases and I would now have a dented/chipped/damaged time capsule. And Apple one severely annoyed customer…

APPLE - YOU REALLY HAVE TO IMPROVE ON THE PACKAGING FOR THIS PRODUCT and I'm deducting a whole 1 star just because of the LAME-ASS packaging. It really is awful and detracts from what should be and for the whole is a very easy and stress-free setup. I've used other backup drives and this is the best. Don't let some shoddy packaging ruin it.

    Easy to use

    • Written by from Great Ayton

Easy to set-up out of the box, bearing in mind you'll need your username and password related to your ISP account to hand. Very straightforward to get Time Machine set-up for multiple accounts and machines, and the back-ups were pretty fast too. It's an expensive buy, but seems worth it for the kit you're getting, a good base station plus spacious hard drive, and piece of mind that everything is being regularly backed-up (and with Power Nap this is made even easier, happening over WiFi whilst the computer's in Sleep mode, if plugged into a power adaptor).

    Simply Brilliant

I purchased this product and I am delighted with its performance, my system is complicated, so it has not been so easy for me, this is not a result of The product, but the fact I am using a Sky Hub, the Sky hub is where the problem makes it more complicated

    Great design poor execution

    • Written by from Northwood

This is a well designed product but the following do not work once you have set it up:
    - HP wifi printer - this was working just fine until I installed the TC 3TB. Apparently, one needs to connect it to the single USB port but that defeats the purpose of having a wifi printer!!
    - if you are using an ADSL router from Sky or BT, you cannot set up the guest network - complicated explanation but that does not work. and there is reams of information on google why that does not work

If you are only looking for extending your wifi network and hard disk space on your home wifi then this works very well right out of the box and hence just the two stars.

I am afraid mine is going back on Monday. I have to say this is the most underwhelming product ever to come out of Apple.

    Brilliant stuff...with potentials for improvement

    • Written by from Aylesbury

What an "Apple night". Now Airport Time Capsule and Apple TV are happily running together. I've never experienced an easier network setup. With Airport I've plugged it into the network and it did everything automatically. All I have to do was to provide my ISP username and password. No need to web browser access to 192.etc addresses. The interface was very intuitive and I'm now running two WiFi networks, at 2.4 and 5 GHz so there is a better WiFi traffic distribution at home and the signal is stronger. Highly recommended. One suggestion: allow disk partitioning

This is dreadful in the extreme. I purchased it with a cisco modem/router after my old backup drive crashed. I set it up in bridge mode attached to my modem via ethernet cable with the hope of using it as a wireless point for a sound system consisting of Bang & Olufsen and Libratone speakers. As a wireless point it works fine but my internet connection and external ip cameras never worked. Have now reverted to my cisco modem/router and bought a regular backup drive. STAY AWAY FROM THIS. IT WILL DO YOUR HEAD IN!!!

Works well as a router but hopelessly slow as a backup. 6 hours for 2GB. It's a bug but I'm not prepared to wait for a fix. This has to go back. far too expensive just for an Airport Extreme with an unusable hard drive. Meant to give zero stars but that's not an option.
