    Lightning to 30-pin Adapter

    • Written by from Somersham

I got this from the Apple store on Oxford as I previously had an iPod and I wanted to be able to use my iPhone 5 to connect using my iTrip, my Bose system and to charge it with my existing car charger - and it does all of the above!!!! Most thrilled I can still use my Bose docking station with my iPhone 5 and the staff at the store were really helpful - it's secure, doesn't wobble and I am very happy. I am also able to use it with the phone still in its protective case

Poorly designed and not compatible with all my devices

    • Written by from Droitwich Spa

I have been an Apple addict since 2007 and currently our household uses; 1 x iPhone 4, 1 x iPhone 4s, 1 x iPhone5, 1 x iPod classic (top of the range), 1 x iPad mini, 1 x iPad 2.... so, when realising that all our docking stations and chargers throughout the house would need an adapter to work with the new iPhone 5 and the iPad mini, I decided to take the (expensive) step of spending £25 on this tiny adapter which is fairly unsuitable for purpose.
First point: to use the adapter, all devices cannot be in a case (no matter how slim) as the wide section butts up against the base of the device.
Secondly: to use in any of our docking stations you now need to plug the adaptor in and then precariously balance your precious devices and hope that it doesn't either fall off, get knocked off, or damage the connector inside...
Finally (and most frustrating): this doesn't work with my in-car connection cable from the glove box (which works fine with previous devices) as it does play music (hurrah!) but doesn't charge - which is not ideal on the long journeys I do.
Poor show from Apple - can't understand why this was not better thought out.

    Not suitable

Only works back to front so I cannot see front of iphone to choose music in car or dock......Apple say it must be faulty and to take it into store for testing. Not amused as expensive and not very practical.

    Great, but a rip off.

    • Written by from Worcester

Great, product and works 100% with my Parrot MKi9200 hands free kit so I can play, charge, select music, browse contacts etc just as I did with previous generations of the iPhone. However, it makes the connection flimsy and I am a little worried it may break at some point.

Massively over priced, i think an RRP of £14.99 would still be steep but I would be much more likely to buy another if they were that sort of money.

Overall I am happy with the purchase but do think it is too much money.

    Useful but why....

make the body so high? When using to adapt on items like my alarm clock, it feels risky to have it resting just on the little pin. If the body of the adapter was shorter there would be less pressure on it...

    SAY CLEAR OF THIS!

    • Written by from Preston

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS AWFUL PRODUCT! I purchased this as my docking station that I bought when I had my iphone 4 no longer fit the new iphone five charger. I thought the price was overpriced but spend the money to save buying a new docking station. BAD IDEA! IT CHARGES MY PHONE BUT WONT PLAY MY MUSIC!! DO NOT BUY THIS!!

Perfect to match with old 30pin docking systems

    • Written by from AMMANFORD

Allows my iPhone 5 to work with my Logitech MM50 speakers and also - most importantly my Dension ICE Lite kit in my car.

Sound transfers via the lightning connector and seems very good quality. I have tried cheaper alternatives from Ebay, but none seem to allow the sound out via the connector (they charge and no sound) so Apple Lightning to 30 pin is the only way.

I think they should have included at least one with the iPhone to help existing (LOYAL) users!! However, Apple are Apple and realise we will buy the stuff anyway I guess.

    Poor design

IMO this is a poor design . It means the iphone now has to sit perched on this tiny insert while wobbling about in a cradle. And the price is a total rip off

What a con ! and really poor design

    • Written by from LONDON

I bought into Apple because it was functionally great and very cool. The new port connection destroys this ! Why change a winning format ?

I recently invested in all the docking stations around the house including Crestron docks..............and now in order to upgrade my Apple kit I have to buy this ???? !
And let's not forget the need for different charging connections for the iPad mini, iPhone 4 & 5 and iPad1 & 2. I can't just connect to recharge around the house like I used to.

And don't get me started on the bespoke connection in my car that does not allow space for the adaptor.

As for the new connection, who thought this was a smart idea to have something so flimsy ? It clearly won't sustainably support the phone !

And should I in future invest in new systems with docking formats if I can't trust Apple not to change it in future? Seems like the sales of sound docks are also going to get hit. Instead, why not just buy a double jack cable and connect by Aux.

Terrible idea and frankly I'm cynical that it is just a money spinner for Apple. My trust in the firm is destroyed and my appreciation of Apple design badly dented.

    Absolute ripoff

    • Written by from Lenzie

Bought this to continue using a couple of stereo systems with the pre5 docks. Worked well but now a year later has ceased to work. I won't pay another £25 for another one (£50 just to charge from an old dock, no thanks). If Apple continue it's policy on cable prices I won't be buying apple products in the future either

    Perfect!!

    • Written by from Pontypool

I had previously bought a Bose sound dock when I originally owed an Apple iPhone 4, but when upgrading to an i5 I could no longer dock my phone. I had read previous reviews and was very skeptical about purchasing this product. After a long period of missing my listening to my music I decided to bite the bullet as it were and was over the moon.
All the features of my dock work perfectly including the remote and I was very pleased. I highly recommend this adapter.

lightning adapter (the apple rip off scheme)

    • Written by from Sale

Like so many other people's reviews i have recently read I too bought the iPhone 5 adapter as assumed i could use my docking station on my very expensive Hi-Fi system only to find out (no surprise) apple have ripped everyone off again. I have to give this product at least 1 star but in my opinion i wouldn't even give it that!!!

doesn't work with smart case on iPad Air

    • Written by from BIRMINGHAM

bought this at the same time as iPad Air and a smart case at Apple store in Birmingham.

However case doesn't fit the width of the adaptor as its as wide as the 30 pin, and the depth of the lightning end is not long enough to reach beyond case.

I will be seeking a refund as its not fit for purpose with what I bought, especially as I bought then all together.

    Don't bother!

    • Written by from MARKET HARBOROUGH

Whether it's the official one or a cheap one they do not work!!! Annoyed with Apple that they expect us to fork out for a new generation ipod to find that the adapters don't work on most docking stations. I have resorted to using Auxiliary on all three of my ipod docking speakers it's the only way around it unless you have the money to fork out for a new ones.

    Should be a keyring fob

    • Written by from Market Harborough

Works as stated, so 5 stars.
I have 3 places I charge in the house, not including laptop, and 2 cars. Should I be spending £150 on adapters??? I wish Apple would drill a hole through the thing so I could attach to my keys and take with me everywhere without fear of losing it.
My fear is that Apple has already thought of this, but hasn't done it because they want me to spend the £150...

Cant be used with a case

    • Written by from manchester

Its works, but only if you take your 5s out of its case. I've even got an apple case but the connector is too short and doesn't take into account the extra 1mm width of the case.

    Not For Me

    • Written by from West Byfleet

Very expensive for such a small item. When I tried to use it with my new iPhone 5s (after removing its case), it would not fit into the socket for the Bose Docking Station. I had to remove the Bose surround on the docking station socket after which the Adapter fitted but the iPhone was very precarious and felt as if the connector would break very easily. It then only had limited playback functionality using the Bose remote. I have reverted to the Auxiliary Socket on the Docking Station which works better and so have returned the Adaptor.

Expensive, doesn't work with covers, poor job apple....

    • Written by from WREXHAM

Apart from this product being over 1000% more expensive than it should be, they haven't left extra room on the end for even the smallest of covers, it does work with audio but I had to sand off the top of the adapter to get it to fit my slim cover, what a bodge thanks for nothing apple..
