I don't understand all the negative reviews. I had the previous version of this and it worked perfectly. After having upgraded my iPad i needed this one. It works perfectly too.

Inserted SD Card, attached reader to Lightning Port, entered Import command and there were my photos in the Camera Roll waiting to be selected into Albums. Brilliant! Especially as I had been apprehensive after reading the some of the reviews. Apple assured me that any problems would be sorted anyway. So go ahead and buy one, you won't regret it.

    works 100% O.K.

    • Written by from Hoddesdon

Having read the reviews and seen a near 50% failure rate, I ordered an SD card reader with some trepidation. However, no problems. Worked first time and dead easy to use - no hassle at all. It might have been more helpful if other users writing negative comments had helped by saying what SD cards they used. I use SD cards from a main stream reputable make - Sandisk and have 8 and 16 gb cards. They do have a DCIM sub directory which holds the photos in and my photos are saved with 8 digit filenames in xxx_xxxx format where the first three characters are letters and the last four are numbers.
But perhaps Apple ought to be more user friendly and proactive and provide some more helpful advice on just why there are so many negative reviews and how to avoid breakdowns in compatibility between their SD card reader and photos as experienced by some users.

    Nothing is perfect

    • Written by from Kiluciu k.

I have used this card reader for about two years, it worked seemlessly all this time. I used it to transfer raw files from my nikon D90, and from action cameras like gopro hero2 and contour roam2. All good, BUT, it is a shame, that i cant transfer these files to iphone. When i go to the slopes, i won't be carrying my ipad with me, but my iphone is always with there, and it would be useful if i could upload video on the go and erase memory card to record more.

I was nearly put off buying this with all the negative reviews, but having used the one for original iPad with no problems I decided to give it a go - it worked perfectly with my boyfriend's new iPad mini and sd card from his sony camera - happy days :)

    Exactly what I needed

    • Written by from Cambridge

I bought this while on our most recent holiday in South Africa. I was instantly impressed. As soon as I inserted my SD card it automatically opened up import and displayed all the pictures, giving me an option to import them all or just selected ones. No instructions are necessary with this item. I was most impressed by the speed of transfer, and also the auto detection so I don't have to remember which app to use. This now lives in my camera bag along with my DSLR.

Not sure what all the problems are that so many seem to have had. Just got back from a holiday to New Zealand, and used this every night to import my photos to my iPad mini. Work every time perfectly. No problems whatsoever.

Lightning to SD Card Camera reader

    • Written by from WATFORD

I bought this today, a bit apprehensive as I read the previous reviews and was ready to return it to the store.

Well, it worked a treat. No sooner connected then all my photos were there ready to be downloaded. Great. In super time too!!!

It is a great product, does exactly what it says!

I was really afraid to buy this because of the bad reviews that I found, but I suppose the ones complaining about this product is because they maybe had problem with incompatibility. If you make sure that you check which iPads work with the "Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader", you are fine.

I had a great experience using it. It is really fast to transfer the pictures from your SD card to the iPad. I'm using it with an iPad mini retina, SanDisk 32GB 45MB/s Extreme HD Video SDHC Card and Sony NEX-3N camera.

I bought this camera reader for my iPad air. I currently use a GoPro Hero 3 silver to shoot videos and sometimes pictures. The iPad air can transfer videos at 60fps and 120fps, and im able to edit on imovie. Excellent kit to edit GoPro videos on the go.

Solution when SD card does not appear to connect

    • Written by from Ramsgate

When I first tried to upload it would not work - this was from a SD card which I transferred some pics from my computer. However when I created a folder called DCIM on the card and transferred the same pictures into the DCIM folder, they were instantly recognised on my IPAD air via the DS card adapter - now happy

I was nervous buying this after reading some of the negative reviews. I am not technical at all but found this to do exactly what it said it would. SD card in, up came all of my photos that uploaded onto the iPad really quickly. Easy peasy, even for me! Highly recommended from me, thank you!

    Great bit of kit

    • Written by from Seaham

Was rather apprehensive when I read that more people said it didn't work than said it did....was brave and bought an original from an Apple store...fantastic bit of kit...loads instantly and then there's the option to chose which to import....carry it with the camera kit so can view my shots and more importantly make tweaks to the camera settings...recommend this ++++

    Excellent

    • Written by from London

I was very hesitant about buying this after reading many reviews stating this does not work. I decided to take a chance. It works fine with my new ipad air and the pic transfers were instant. Just plug in and go. Some of these reviews mention plugging it into a camera.? If thats what you wish to achieve then it would not work. This is an SD card reader as far as I am aware. If it's supposed to do anything else then maybe it doesn't work. But it does read my SD card! That's all I can report, really :)

    Works with iOS7 fine

    • Written by from AMMANFORD

I have ordered a couple of these off eBay and they claimed to be Genuine Apple. But none of them worked. However - the real deal did work - and although I think the price is a bit steep, I can now take my iPad with my camera and download (or is it upload) pics from the SD card, meaning I have an instant back up and large viewing / editing screen using the iPad.

In reality I spent 2/3 of the price on cheaper ones that didn't work - should have known better. Hope this review saves you money.

    Great product

    • Written by from Nottingham

Me and my dad bought this for our upcoming trip to India so we can back up our photos and so we tested it with our SD card and it works perfectly. It takes a while to load the photos if you have a lot on the card already but that's expected. This is a great idea and we cant wait to use it. We found that it works best with SD cards that have the DCIM folder which is created when our camera stores a photo to the card.
