    Totally let down

    • Written by from Warrington

I bought a 16GB iPad Air on December 15th 2013 presuming that I was buying a quality product - however, I have been badly let down. I am having to buy a 3rd charging cable in that time. I have been very careful with my iPad as it helps me to keep in contact with friends and family when I am not able to get out and about, as I am a disabled pensioner.
Obviously, my next smartphone, tablet and lap-top will not be Apple.

The worst piece of accessory I have ever seen in my 40+ years...

    • Written by from London

I've used computers and mobile phones for a great many years, if I could give this cable a hefty minus rating I would, I have never ever seen something of such appallingly poor quality, not even in cheap computer accessories I bought in Asia...
It is simply bad bad bad.
Shame on you Apple for peddling such infoerior products. And to those who (probaby from Apple's staff...) say oh it's just a question of how careful you are, it's not. I've just had it by my desk in the office and it breaks cause it's a poorly designed cheap piece of (bad language goes here)...

The worst apple product I have owned, I love apple products but this charger has to be the worst product I have ever come across for a charger, even BlackBerry were better for chargers, I have had the charger since I got my iPhone 5c in May 2014 and the wire has melted partly and then the charger stopped working completely this morning straight after use, not happy, product needs to be stronger!!!

i got one of the cables with my iPad 4 when it first game out. the cables are fine, regardless of what the other people say, the only concern i have it that they are rather delicate and i broke one when i dropped it still attached to my iPad(got it out of the iPad though) but thats to be expected. just be careful and they will last

    Very poor

Very poor. You would guess they would put a bit more plastic for what they charge. Already changed 5-6. One of them even melted and they didn't want to change it as they thought I've twisted it intentionally.

    Poor Quality

    • Written by from Chelmsford

Due to bad connections I've been through about 4 of these, in less that 12 months. I don't see the point of paying £25 for a cable, if its going to fail, so I'll try a cheaper alternative.

I have an iPhone 5 and iPad Air and am now on charger #7. After all of the negative reviews (I think there are only about 15 over 2 stars), I am so surprised that Apple do nothing about their chargers.

With other brands, Samsung especially, upping their game and snapping up Apple's customers, you'd think that they would want to improve the quality and retain customers. Apple are so expensive anyway, by the time you've bought 3 extra chargers (per product), per year, you kind of lose faith in the brand.

Apple, Don't get me wrong, I genuinely love your products and consider myself a loyal customer however I have to ask, what are you playing at with the lightning cable?
Having within my family; 2 iPhone 5's and an iPad mini, I can safely say that the lightning cable is by far and away the worst product you have ever made. I'm not sure if it's the cable or the connector on the devices but I have to tell you that if you want to keep my custom in the future then something needs to change. After a few months use and many (to the tune of 6-7 genuine Apple cables!!) they all go the same way, I end up having to lick the cable, blow saliva into the connector and prop up the device in 'just the right position' to get it to start charging a device and then, if it's moved slightly, it starts trying to tell me this accessory may not be compatible...well no s*** it isn't compatible, the problem is it's your own product, supposedly designed to work with your products? I hope you see my frustration and where I am going with this!
I do not expect to have to go through this spit fest/ balancing act every time I use your products...I expect them to just work as you usually make happen so well, hence why this comes as such a disappointment.
Apple, please take notice of your customers, look at all the 1 star reviews for this product and re-evaluate your use of this inferior product on future devices. You generally make excellent products so please do not let yourself down on this small hurdle. I really want to stay with you for future devices but fear if you continue with this type of connection then I will be forced to look at other tablets and phone manufactures in the future.

    There has to be better

The cable lasted less than a year. It's an insult to the consumer to provide a vital accessory of such poor quality and then charge so much for a replacement. I am not sure my next tablet will be an iPad.

    Terrible product!

    • Written by from Brecon

Reading these reviews, I'm relieved to see that I'm not the only one that has had a problem with this connecter! I'm am so annoyed apple are meant to have high quality products? Well this was very disappointing! I have had three of these now and each one has broken!! (One for my phone,iPad and another one I bought separately because they both broke) I had had them less than 6 months and they have broken, whenever I plug my iPad or phone in nothing happens! £25 apple must be having a joke for such a terrible product!! Such a rip off!! Your better off buying a cheap one on ebay!! As it will probably last longer than this pile of rubbish

    Poor quality cables

Very poor product . I won't be buying iphone anymore . As I'm writing now I'm struggling to charge my phone and that's my 8th cable within a year. I have had enough stresses from this product and the money I hve spent on cables alone could have bought me a nice HTC. I'm very disappointment

    • Written by from BARNET

Everyone complains about these cables, works very well. I charge mine in the kitchen and have two iPhone's and the original cables 6mths later.

For all those complaining use common sense when plugging in and you will be fine

Had mine since 2012 until I destroyed it!

    • Written by from Ware

I upgraded to iPhone in December 2012 and my cable was fine until February this year when I FORCED it into my phone following an accident with my phone and hot water which caused residue to block the charging socket. Other than that I have had no problems. So either (1) the manufacture of the cable post-December 2012 is very poor or (2) people are not looking after their cables. I NEVER wrap mine tightly. In fact I RARELY wrap it at all! It usually stays in one position where my phone is charged nightly.

    Poor Usage

    • Written by from rochester

I've been in the trade for more years than Apple, and to be fair to them, these cables are consumable items. The reason they fail is due to everyday usage, where they are being stretched, bent near the ends, and otherwise "abused". I would rather the cables fail than the sockets, which would cost you much more to have replaced, and that wouldn't be a warranty issue. We get the same problem with Laptop power supplies.

There is no easy answer, but don't beat up Apple for producing a good low cost product for once, which if you look after will last a long time. My IPAD1 power supply lead is still going 4 years later after heavy usage. I just take more care of it....

I had my iphone 4 before i upgraded to the 5 this year, 3 years on my iPhone 4 charger still works! (i use it for my ipad) this is my third lead in 6 months, the price you pay for iphones you think they could make a charger that lasts longer than 2 months with all that technology!

Fundamental design Fault, would give it 0 stars if I could.

These cables to fit the new lightning connector have a serious problem with breakage. I have tried Apples own brand at great expense and pretty much every other makers too. There is no link between the amount you spend and how long they last at all. Average life span is four to six weeks and they always fail in the same place. Where the flexible wire enters into the lightning connector, it is too thin and too flexible and the wires inside just break. It needs a sturdy protector here, similar to the 30 pin connector they used to use. I still have my original one of these 30 pin connectors 5 years on. It is a huge dissapointment to me and to all Apple fans that this issue hasn't sorted out after so many poor reviews and complaints. Someone should have lost their job over this. I can only vote with my wallet so will not buy any more products with this cable on it until it is sorted. If Apple wants some help with designing a new one they just need to actually read these reviews.

Although the iPhone 5 chargers may look attractive they are far from durable. In the past year I have purchased over 4 of these chargers and every single one has broke, a complete waste of money and puts me off having an iPhone.
