Great product providing you don't stretch cable

    • Written by from BARNET

Everyone complains about these cables, works very well. I charge mine in the kitchen and have two iPhone's and the original cables 6mths later.

For all those complaining use common sense when plugging in and you will be fine

Had mine since 2012 until I destroyed it!

    • Written by from Ware

I upgraded to iPhone in December 2012 and my cable was fine until February this year when I FORCED it into my phone following an accident with my phone and hot water which caused residue to block the charging socket. Other than that I have had no problems. So either (1) the manufacture of the cable post-December 2012 is very poor or (2) people are not looking after their cables. I NEVER wrap mine tightly. In fact I RARELY wrap it at all! It usually stays in one position where my phone is charged nightly.

    Poor Usage

    • Written by from rochester

I've been in the trade for more years than Apple, and to be fair to them, these cables are consumable items. The reason they fail is due to everyday usage, where they are being stretched, bent near the ends, and otherwise "abused". I would rather the cables fail than the sockets, which would cost you much more to have replaced, and that wouldn't be a warranty issue. We get the same problem with Laptop power supplies.

There is no easy answer, but don't beat up Apple for producing a good low cost product for once, which if you look after will last a long time. My IPAD1 power supply lead is still going 4 years later after heavy usage. I just take more care of it....

I had my iphone 4 before i upgraded to the 5 this year, 3 years on my iPhone 4 charger still works! (i use it for my ipad) this is my third lead in 6 months, the price you pay for iphones you think they could make a charger that lasts longer than 2 months with all that technology!

These cables to fit the new lightning connector have a serious problem with breakage. I have tried Apples own brand at great expense and pretty much every other makers too. There is no link between the amount you spend and how long they last at all. Average life span is four to six weeks and they always fail in the same place. Where the flexible wire enters into the lightning connector, it is too thin and too flexible and the wires inside just break. It needs a sturdy protector here, similar to the 30 pin connector they used to use. I still have my original one of these 30 pin connectors 5 years on. It is a huge dissapointment to me and to all Apple fans that this issue hasn't sorted out after so many poor reviews and complaints. Someone should have lost their job over this. I can only vote with my wallet so will not buy any more products with this cable on it until it is sorted. If Apple wants some help with designing a new one they just need to actually read these reviews.

Although the iPhone 5 chargers may look attractive they are far from durable. In the past year I have purchased over 4 of these chargers and every single one has broke, a complete waste of money and puts me off having an iPhone.

I am on my third cable since January this year. The wires either pull out of the end or simply snap. This is not to mention the fact that they are so riduclously short they are hardly usable. I have to place my ipad and iphone on the floor to charge them. Then there is the price of the chargers - £25 for 2 months use that equals £150 per year.

    TOTAL COSDWALLOP. Wake up Apple.

Believe me when I say, I have spent the same amount of money it would take to buy a new iPhone on chargers. They are completely useless, they break easily and some of these chargers haven't even lasted a week. I can't even say how many I've been through in 18 months of my upgrade because I've lost count. Apple need to sort it out. I have been a dedicated apple fan from the very start, but the experience with these chargers and the iPhone 5 have completely put me off. I shall never have an iPhone again, I'm converting to Samsung on my upgrade, apple have lost a customer.

    Absolutely awful charger.

    • Written by from Glasgow

I've purchased 5 of these since getting my iPhone 5 last January and about to purchase my 6th one, like someone said because it's a necessity. I've tried buying unofficial chargers but again iOS 7 has seen to that. I've gone through all the reviews on here which are all saying the same thing however Apple don't seem to be doing anything about this, or at least make the chargers cheaper knowing they are faulty. I am appalled I've spent £150 to charge my iPhone when the iPhone alone is so expensive. Come on Apple please fix this or at least change the charger when the next phone comes out!

Disappointed with the quality and price :(

When i bought my iphone 5, the cable that came with it only lasted me couple of months. After that i've purchased about three more cables due to the poor quality. It stops charging sometimes so i have to keep trying until it shows that its charging if the cable is moved then it stops charging again. It has only been a year since i bought my iphone 5. It is also very pricey for a cable that lasts for only couple of months or so. Feeling very frustrated and disappointed. Apple products have always been very good quality but not this time with the cable. Hope Apple sort this problem out very soon.

I've had my cable for over a year now, and it's still in mint condition, I here a lot of people complaining about Apple's Cables breaking a lot, but my is fine and I think this is down to the fact that I look after it, and the people who complain don't actually look after thier own cable; unfortunatley I cannot tell people how to think and do things!

Overall pretty good cable and I would buy another one if I have the money!

    "I Don't Recognize You?"

    • Written by from Nottingham

The product lasts no longer than the original iPhone5 cable as I thought it would due to it being longer, helping slack out when tugged to turn my iPhone's alarm off in the morning. But yet again my charger is being put with my phone and its almost like it don't recognize it. This is shocking say Apple is meant to be a premium brand and well we no they put a premium price on their items but where's the quality we pay for!!!

I am heading to buy a THIRD cable later today. For such a premium product like the iPhone, I cannot believe that they have developed such a disgraceful accessory that is so important to it's usability! Utterly horrendous.

I really cannot understand all the negative reviews

    • Written by from Workington

I used the same cable that came with my iPhone 5 for over a year and it was still like new. Nothing broke on it. In all the time I’ve owned Apple kit which has come with a USB cable, I have not had a single issue with any of them.

Admittedly, the cable on this lead is not the thickest, but all of these leads are the same, they don’t need to be thick cabled.

I think a lot of negative reviews are due to heavy handed use, I think these people are pulling on the cable to remove them instead of pulling them out by the plug/connecter. I’ve seen far more negative reviews on 3rd party cables than on Apple’s cables. At least when you buy Apple branded ones, you know the thing is going to work, a lot of the 3rd party ones are not licensed and as such will not work or some are dam right dangerous.

A bit expensive, but a good cable all the same.

Extortionate price for a fault that Apple need to fix

    • Written by from Cookstown

Charger stopped working on my phone, only bought it a few months ago. When I looked at the charging piece on the end the color was literally burned off by my phone. My phone no longer charges with any charger I try and is off to get fixed. Apple, it's ridiculous. For such an expensive phone you think the products would actually last!
