    Poor product

    • Written by from Maidstone

I am on the phone with Apple just now arranging for the collection and replacement of a 2m iPhone lightning product, which is no longer working. Actually my standard length cable has just broken as well. Well at least Apple seems to be replacing them for free. Of course, I would rather that these products didn't break in the first place.

Are the individuals posting 5 star reviews being paid?!

    • Written by from surrey

I find myself here AGAIN in search of a new charger cable, and this situation is now beyond the point of comedy. I have purchased numerous chargers over the last 6 years or so that I have had an iPhone and in my honest opinion, considering the size and success of the company, the quality is abhorrent. I have never had an issue with my Macbook charger, however i wish the same could be said for my phone. I am not aggressive with my cable, nor am I using it to tow any cars as one reviewer remarked. I find it infuriating that this is such a regular occurrence. Not only have i purchased 4 new chargers in the last 6 months alone, but this is a common occurrence for many iPhone users. I think those remarking that their chargers have been nothing but perfect should be incredibly grateful, opposed to pointing the finger at those unhappy with the quality. I would much rather have no problems and no complaints, if only my chargers felt the same way. Is there any harm in trying to improve on a product that clearly has mixed reviews from loyal customers? I'm soon due my upgrade and I am seriously debating whether or not to continue with the iPhone at all because of this.

    Perfectly good cable, no issues

    • Written by from Harrogate

A longer version of the standard lightning to USB cable which comes with all current iOS devices. I have experienced no issues with this cable, or the standard length cable. It puzzles me there are so many highly negative reviews about lightning cables. The only explanation I can think of is people have purchased counterfeit cables from places other than Apple -- I once purchased a 30 pin cable from eBay which turned out to be fake and it did cause glitches when I used it with my old iPhone 4S, or they are mistreating the cables, in which case of course they will break. If you stick to genuine cables purchased from Apple and don't handle them like a ham fisted moron then I don't envisage any problems.

The Strange Case of the One Star Reviews

    • Written by from Cheltenham

After reading the many one star reviews condemning this item as the "worst quality cable you will ever find" I bought two of them, one to put to every day use and the other to examine in detail.

I am an electrical engineer and I took one of these cables to the workshop to be tested for quality, functionality and durability. My conclusion is that the more than 40 extremely negative reviews have no basis in reality. This is a well made product likely to give good service for a long time if used properly.

The only conclusion to be drawn from the noticeably extreme reviews is that there were written by people more likely to be hostile to the Apple brand than with any genuine evidence that this product is of poor quality. Those who are open minded and looking for the advantage that a longer charging cable provides can buy with confidence.

To put it quite frank I am embarrassed that a company as big as Apple cannot make chargers for their products that are durable and sustainable! My advise to anyone is do not invest hundreds of pounds into a mobile phone that has a charger that breaks after a few months. The leads are faulty and useless and terribly made! Apple design team should be ashamed that they for one are design these chargers and charging consumers £25 to replace something they did NOT break!! Very very frustrated angry and disappointed customer!!!

Don't understand what the problem is!

    • Written by from Sandbach

Read other reviews on this item and was a little concerned about durability but having purchased the item I can't understand where the problem is. The price is somewhat OTT but the cable is much thicker than the standard 1m iPhone cable, in fact it's the same guage as the original iPad cable and I can't imagine what amount of abuse you would have it give it to fail within a year. I've had mine for 6 months with no issues whatsoever. Read into that what you will but I'm happy!

Worst quality cable you will ever find.

    • Written by from Ramsey

Like all the other reviews, I was in the habit of having to buy new cables every 5 minutes until I extended the lifespan myself.

Admittedly, it is a crude way of extending the life of these inferior cables but it has worked on both my iPhone and iPad cables. When i bought the last cable for each device, I was determined it was going to be the last, so before I started using the cable, I wrapped white insulating tape around the edge of the cable at each end, tight against both parts which connect with the socket, enough to make the cable stiff, so it does not bend at either end, when charging.

It doesn't look great when you have to charge your devices, as you shouldn't have to do this but mine has lasted nearly a year now, on both cables I have, so a small piece of insulating tape has saved me quite a lot of money. It does seem like a deliberate ploy by Apple, to increase their profits, as they have more than adequate knowledge and expertise, to develop a cable that will last, like other Manufacturers have managed to do, probably as they want to keep their customers long term, whereas Apple do not seem to mind their customers losing faith in their products.

    Lasted 2 months before splitting

    • Written by from Helensburgh

The quality of these cables is shocking. Mine lasted just over 2 months before splitting. £25 down the drain. Come on Apple - your stuff is so good, why let yourself down with lousy cables? Can't find any way to claim a refund but really would like one.

    Bad quality

    • Written by from Durham

I don't know how apple makes these chargers, I don't care if the style doesn't match, you can still make white cables that lost longer, every few months I need a new cable, I've had my iphone for nearly a year and I've already bought 4 cables, WHY!! you guys need to chill or just give us free chargers if you aren't planning on improving the cables you already make.
Very disappointed apple, I can't believe that a company like you make these bad quality cables, step up your game man!!

    It's all in the wrist.

    • Written by from Coventry

Purchased this cable having read the reviews on here and also taking into account the number of cables I've seen that have obviously been mistreated. This is a delicate piece of equipment and needs to be handled as such, don't pull on the cable, grip the plugs when you need to remove it and you'll be fine, don't try towing a car with it and if it does breakdown - try fixing it yourself for a greater understanding of how delicate it actually is.

Sleeve comes out exposing the wires that can sometimes give a shock.
    Fed up of replacing them.

    Very poor quality

    • Written by from London

The cable is already splitting at the lightning connecting end after only a few months. Very, very poor quality. And a very high price. Expected much better, that's why I bought Apple, and at the price it should be a top quality, reliable cable. Unfortunately it's not. Not recommended at all.

    Rubbish quality!

    • Written by from Manchester

These cables are rubbish quality they break after a few months of use. I always hear reasons like its being moved around too much or you shouldn't scrunch it up, its a phone charger it needs to be moved around and put in bags etc.
I haven't given one star because on the plus side I went to the apple store and they replaced the cable for free when it broke.

    Great Profit Centre For Apple

    • Written by from Norwich

As most reviewers state the cable doesn't last any longer than a few months before it starts splitting at the Lightning conductor end which means you constantly have to replace them. Great business for Apple at £25 a pop not so great for Apple's loyal customers we have 5 Apple devises that need this type of cable so you can do the Math. Apple this product needs improving full stop.

I love my iPhone and stuff but these chargers are awful I'vejust bought my 15th charger today! I've had my phone for about 10 years!!
Apple needs to redesign the charger with what they used with the older chargers asI still have the iPod touch 4Gen and the charger it came with and it still works to this day and I had the iPod the first day it came out!!

    Great Product!

    • Written by from Leamington Spa

Purchased this cable to use with my new iPhone 6 Plus as I wanted to be able to use the phone whilst I am in bed.

The cable is great and does the job its designed for.

I'm a little confused with the reviews saying that the cable is too expensive. If you think about the price of the iOS devices that you use this with, £25.00 is nothing to spend on a cable. If you looking around at cheeper cables, yes you can get ones that cost less but they won't last as long.

And if your one of the people who says they have had to keep buying new ones, then your clearly being too heave hand with the cable.

    Good enough

    • Written by from Paisley

I never had to change one. I nearly always disconnect grabbing it by the connector, in rare cases I pull the phone off in a hurry. I still have pristine lightning cables from my iPhone 5 and iPad 4.

Besides using it in a construction zone or in an oily auto shop I can't imagine how you one could break it with Norman use every night.

It's up there with turning on an empty microwave or a call to attention by smacking your iPhone screen-first repeatedly off a hardwood table.
