    Another dead cable over here

    • Written by from Reading

I seem to have acquired the same expensive hobby as many others - collecting dead Lightning cables. Sorry but those few who insist everyone is wrong and it's just a dusty port on the phone....I think you are lucky or mistaken. I have two separate devices, both of which work fine with other cables but neither of which work with the dead one. So I don't think it's worth getting up inside my iPhone Lightning port with a paperclip (shudder!) as someone suggested.

These cables are terrible quality and value but it seems like Apple is making too much money at the moment to care about it.

    RUBBISH

Worst Apple product I have ever had to use. I not even had my iPhone 6 months and I'm on my 5th charger!!! They say you can take them with your receipt to swap them but the nearest store to me is well over an hour away! Exactly the same has happened to both my mum and sister! They really need to realise and sort it out pronto.

    Flawed design

I'm adding my frustration with the quality of the Apple supplied lightening to USB Cable or it's docking port, for the mini ipad2 I own, to the long list of other contributors and repeat the request that Apple address this recurrent problem ASAP.

    Extremely Unimpressed

I am so frustrated by having to constantly buy new iphone 5S cables. after a few weeks, they start intermittently charging/not charging, and if i plug the cable into my MacBook Air the charging sound bleeps constantly twice per second. This means I cannot upload my pictures to aperture or sync the phone to iTunes. I went into the Apple store to report this thinking it was my MBA that was the issue, and the Genius Bar guy said it was more likely the cable that was faulty. He plugged my iPhone into my MBA with his Genius Bar Cable, which had blue INSULATING TAPE on the section of the cable that is susceptible to the damage. So if Apples cables are becoming damaged, surely they can sort it out and make a change to the material they use to make them. I usually love apple design and i do like the connector on the cable, I just wish they had used a better quality sleeve for the cable. If the motivation was "less plastic used, happier planet" then they have failed to consider that I have had to dispose of more cables this year that I have since the first iPhone came out. Absolute Mince.

Worst charging cable that has ever existed!

    • Written by from ringwood

I am tired of constantly after a few weeks having to purchase new lightening cables. They have a very short shelf life before crumpling at the ends, which then signifies the end of the USB cable as it no longer charges efficiently- or occasionally not at all. I wish Apple would sort this issue out as I am most certainly considering changing phones (despite the fact I love my iPhone) for such a simple thing. Apple are losing valued and loyal customers as they appear to simply be ignoring our complaints!

    Sort this out !

    • Written by from chippenham

Every cable we have bought has failed. How can a company like Apple keep ignoring an obvious design/quality flaw with these cables ? I would not buy another iphone whilst this problem persists. Absolute rubbish !

    Samsung here I come!

    • Written by from Peterborough

Apple you need to get a grip! 4 dead charging leads in 12 months. This wouldn't be a problem if the only cost £1
(Still inconvenient). My Nokia charger was still going after 3 years, so the technology exists. I believe Apple are getting arrogant with their market share, but they will have to do it without me. "Hello Samsung"

Please create a cable that actually works!

    • Written by from Knaresborough

I have an ipad with lightening conductor cable and thought I had been doing something wrong until I read the reviews. I am on to my 4th cable now in less than a year and have found it both frustrating and a bit dangerous that the cables are such poor quality. The latest cable after a month started to give me electric shocks (at first only small ones so I thought it was static), then I realised that it was actually the quality of the cable.

Once again I am about to go out and get another cable so that I can actually get my ipad to work. The old iphone I have (which is about 4 years old) is only on the second cable...... does this speak volumes about the 'improvement' the new connector has made!

I am willing to pay for the apple connector BUT it must work!

I was also looking to upgrade and get a new Apple phone, but reading these reviews, I am really thinking about changing and going for a different make instead.

Definitely wont bother buying the apple cable

    • Written by from Cardiff

So the charging cable I currently use for my iPhone 5 is starting to play up a bit, disconnecting when I move my phone around etc, doesn't charge as fast as it used to. So I thought I come and buy a proper apple cable. After reading these reviews, definitely will not. However I wanted to let others know what I have been using which has lasted since October (2013) and like I said has only recently started plying up but not to the point I can't use it. I am about to go and buy another one of these as they seem to be MUCH better quality than the apple ones. Belkin 2m Lightning Charge and Sync Cable for Apple iPhone. I had the same problem as most of you with the original cable that came with the phone in that after a few months the casing around the wires became loose at the ends and disconnected from the head of the lead, thus not working properly.

    Shoddy quality

    • Written by from Romsey

Come on Apple, if you expect me to pay £15 for a cable then at least make it have decent build quality. Why on earth would I buy the genuine product when it breaks in no time at all, I may as well buy the cheapy knock offs as they last just as long and cost pence each.

    Terrible product

    • Written by from Raleigh

Wish apple made its usb cables as good as its other products. They dont even replace the cables even if it is in warranty, saying that since it is physically damaged we wont replace it. If you are putting such a high price on your cables it should last for more than a year atleast.

    Waste of money!

    • Written by from Tipton

I've had my ipad 4 since November and iphone 5 since just before Christmas, my ipad cable lasted for 3 months and my iphone cable lasted just 3! Since then I have purchased 4 more which have all broken. I'm sick to death of forking out for these poxy cables when the ipad & iphone were so expensive to begin with. Apple really need to rethink these lightening cables because they are a joke! If I didn't need my iphone to Facetime my other half in the Army when he's overseas (better call quality than skype) I would go back to using my Android, at least their chargers don't fall apart every 5 minutes!

    Criminal

    • Written by from Idling ton

I have purchased an ipad mini (for personal use) and been given an ipad air (for corporate use) within the past 2 months. Both of these new style charging cables, fresh from the box, have stopped charging my devices. I would have been less upset if I thought it to be potentially a one-off problem, however, this issue appears to be a fundamental flaw with the product rather than an outlier event. It should be criminal for a company to produce premium priced devices which are fitted with non-industry standard peripherals. This would be excusable if the cable actually worked (let alone provided a tangible benefit over-and-above industry standard). Why Apple has delayed recalling the cable is a mystery. It is not enough to be able to walk into a shop an replace every 2 months. This costs me £4.40 in tube fare and takes an hour of my time (priceless).
