I now need to buy a fifth cable...

    • Written by from Darlington

I have an iPad 3, an iPad mini for my son and an iPhone 5s. So far the only cable still working is the iPhone 5s cable.
I have replaced the 2 iPad cables once each already and 2 months ago the mini cable again stopped working. Earlier today the cable for my iPad 3 stopped working and will no longer charge.
This is ridiculous that products as expensive as iPad have such shoddy charging cables. I have no choice but to buy another cable as no doubt the iPhone 5 cable with break in the next month.
Apple, read the reviews and sort this out....

    Very poor design and quality

    • Written by from Wellingborough

This is among the worst moves Apple have made. The design is poor, the quality awful and the price is high. Not what I expect from Apple and personally I think Apple seriously need to address this. If I could give 0 stars I would,
Apple, please sort this out, listen to your customers, I think you'll find the majority agree it is a poorly designed, overpriced step back from your usual attention to detail. I believe a serious re-think and a move away from this form of connector should be very high on your list for future models, no wasting our time/money trying to fix it and no ignoring what the majority of your customers want. The Lightning Connector is not a success and unlikely ever will be; accept this and do what you do best and solve this problem in your usual way with a new elegant seamless design please.

CABLES are good! Beware of the LINT!!

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I was having troubles with charging my phone and had to keep the cable strained in various angles. Like all other users here, I thought that cable quality was bad. Its not the cable, its the LINT that gets accumulated in the charging slot. Just take a toothpick and clean the charging slot properly. You will be able to see a lot of Lint coming of the slot. Once the slot is clean, the cable will work fine. GOOD LUCK!!

If i could give no stars i would

The old cable for the 4/4S lasted nearly 2 and a half years. I've had this a matter of a few months and its stopped working. Seems everyone is having the same problem with the cable coming loose at the lightening end.

An absolute joke to charge hundreds of pounds for 'top of the line' tech, and then not even be able to switch it on without shelling out £15 every few months!

    Sort it out APPLE!

    Awful!

I'm on to my second cable now and i'm going elsewhere to find a cheaper one. The quality of this cable is horrendous, within a week of getting a replacement from Apple, my second cable broke. It has happened to many of my friends who are equally as annoyed. SORT THIS OUT!!!

A wire frequently comes loose in these cables at the lightning end, causing them to fail. Awful quality. Come on Apple; sort this out!

Apple should be ashamed selling such a poorly designed and made product for such an inflated price! I have been through 4 of these, all became faulty due to the same problem!

    Rubbish quality!

    • Written by from london

Why do Apple not listen to the gripes about the poor quality of the leads they supply? The plastic sheath on these lead is perishable rubber/plastic, they fray so easily it is lamentable. The Kindle leads I have are made of a much more hard wearing non perishable material, far better than the Apple leads. DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE QUALITY OF YER LEADS!

    Poor quality

    • Written by from belfast

The original cable that came with my new Ipad mini broke after a few weeks. It would only charge when you held it in an awkward position and the ipad couldn't recognise it. I took it to the apple store where I was treated like a criminal with a member of staff even screaming in my face that he was "99.9% sure it was a counterfeit cable" he then took it to his manager who confirmed that it was an original cable. The cable was then replaced and now the plastic covering the lead is beginning to bubble up and melt. I have heard that this can cause the lead to catch fire and I am now constantly worried when charging my device. This lead is poor quality and cheaply made. I would not recommend apple products with this cable to anyone!

    Perfect!

    • Written by from Chester

Contrary to all the negative reviews my original lightning cable from my iPhone 5 is perfect and still going strong even now I have the 5S. I will admit though I dont go winding it up and stuffing it in bags or trailing it across the floor to charge my phone. The cable is not designed to last if you abuse it but if you look after it you can expect it to last well.

    Infuriating

    • Written by from blackpool

This item is an absolute joke, I have had my iPhone just over a year now and I am on my 8th charger. Ever since the ios7 update my phone just dies whenever it feels like no matter what percentage It's telling me I have, which leads to me now needing to charge my phone a lot more frequently and carrying a charger with me. The wire just comes apart from the end far too easily, I just don't get how this product is still aloud to be sold, it's robbery. Apple why don't you just look at the reviews on the website alone and sort the problem out it's a joke with the price you're charging and refusing to sort out the problem, useless.

I own 2 iPhone 5s, which I bought when they were launched in the UK, and have had to buy 4 replacement cables so far. Like so many other people, my cables have failed where the cable meets the lightning plug. Bad bit of design by Apple.

Well thats another cable.....should we all factor in 2-3 cables a year?

On the basis that you are charging your phone each day, then my cables are lasting a maximum of 200 charges - this is POOR!

Apple - this needs to be worked on

This charger works well but I'm on my second one since i bought my iPod. The charger charges my iPod a lot quicker than my old iPod used to charge but the downfall of this product is that it is easily damaged and no matter what you hear from good reviews about there being too much dust in the charger port it is not the case and I clean this everyday as I'm OCD and my charger doesn't work well anymore and need to buy a third one which is ridiculous.

    Terrible Quality

    • Written by from Croydon

As you can see from the title, there is really nothing to say about the new, ironically named "Lightning" Cable. After just a couple of months, the end of the charger, at the 8 pin side, just tears apart, exposing the inside electronics. Eventually, the wires just fall out of this.

I really can't believe that a quality producer like Apple is making such junk like this, and then making us pay £15 for an essential thing that just is not up to standard. After paying £300+ for Apple products, you would think that we would at least get a charger that would last longer than a year...

Already been through 2 of these in the last 6 months and am going to have to order ANOTHER one, otherwise no iPhone for me. Looking at the possibility of changing phones now, possibly moving to HTC or Samsung.

Apple, redesign this NOW and get your act together...

Not durable at all, #7 just died

    • Written by from Accrington

These cables work perfectly well when you first get them, but after a couple of months they stop working properly.
My seventh cable has just died, I have also purchased the Micro USB to lightning adapter but as this is so tiny I have lost it!!

The next time I'm passing an Apple Store I'll pop in with one of the broken cables and try to get a replacement as I've seen other people do this in the past.
