    I keep losing it!

    • Written by from Basingstoke

This converter works as expected, but I have an older MacBook Pro in addition to a new retina and I use the same power adapter to charge both. When I want to charge the older MacBook I have to take the converter off, and it is so small I keep misplacing it.

This converter should have a clip attached so that I can clip it to the power adapter cable when not in use.

    Works perfectly

It's a hunk of magnetised aluminium - so it's very robust. The magnet is strong, so you can leave it attached to your power adapter without fear of losing it. It would be nice if you could use it both ways, but as it is you can only use it to convert a Magsafe power adapter for use with a Magsafe 2 laptop, but what it does do it does well.

    Loose connection

Have 2 of them - both looses connection and they get extremely hot. The connectors on my Macbook Pro are miscoloured, and look burned. Would expect something this simple to work better.

works but needs to be more secure

    • Written by from Kells

would be better as a cable adapter, about 4 inches long and securely fixed to old cable

Life in the old adapter :)

Been using for a couple of days and have to say it works well for me .

Fits extremely well and strongly to the old magsafe and so pops off the laptop easily when any pressure is applied - as is the point of the magsafe connectors.

Some other reviewer seem to be commenting on theirs getting very hot , i'm not getting that - mine is ambient temperature after several hours use. It would be interesting to see if those reviewers are using an official charger or a 3rd party one. I've owned 3rd party chargers in the past that have got substantially hotter then the officials ones

Other are complaining that their laptops are slow to charge thru it - not noticing that at all.

Then their are reviewers complaining they have lost theirs because its too small. I'm sure thats annoying for them, and I will be annoyed if I lose mine at some stage but small things are easy to lose. Its hardly a product flaw.

if you have an old charger around that can be used with this rather than spending a small fortune on an official apple power brick then its a no brainer in my opinion.

In fact, I'm pleasantly surprised apple makes this rather than going for the bigger sale of a new power adapter.

    Rarely works - not recommended

    • Written by from Walsall

I have two Thunderbolt displays and a rMBP. I got one of these so I could use the charging cable on the displays - however despite the connector being firmly in place and providing power to the laptop, it won't charge the battery and the LED light on the charging cable does not light up. When using a CPU intensive app, it's actually possible to drain the battery of the laptop, forcing it into sleep mode.

On rare occasions it works as you'd expect, the LED illuminates and the battery charges - but it's so hit or miss you could spend 30 minutes plugging and unplugging the cable before it eventually works properly. Not recommended.

    Exactly what I expected.

It's sturdy, grips tightly (I can't remove it from my MagSafe cable without using two hands, so if I yank the cable from the MacBook the adapter stays safely on).

    I can't fault it.

    Wears out

Don't expect this adapter to last. I had to get a new one after three months. It appears that the small connectors inside the converter wear out - I wonder if this is something to do with the heat generated.

    Falls off!

    • Written by from Fredericia

It does what it is supposed to do. But it doesn't keep being attached that easily as you might would have expect. If you lift your mac, turns it a little on the table, or anything else.. it just pops right off. It's not the magnet that there is anything wrong with.. it just isn't designed to be that handy. But it works though..

    Not satisfied

The idea of this i very good, and the converter is very robust despite its size.
But there are a few problems. It charges rather slow and it gets pretty hot pretty fast.
Sometimes it has got problems with charging, and the % keeps steady at whatever % i started charging from. This is getting worse with time, though i have only been using it for a year :-(
