I thought I just had a duff one, but it looks like I am not alone

I've been using one of these adapters for a couple of months on my macbook pro with a suitable wattage power supply, but now find that it has become unreliable. If I borrow a colleagues then it works fine, but switching back to mine results in pot luck as to whether it will decide to charge. The laptop detects it and switches to 'Power Adapter' mode, but doesn't actually charge up. I came to purchase a replacement, but having read the other reviews I will be investing in a new power supply instead.

    Becomes faulty

Worked fine initially but started to lose connection and has now become totally unreliable. The light stays green indicating a full charge, when it's not, and it won't charge. I can only assume the little pins aren't making contact. I've tried to clean it but it's made no difference.

    It doesn't actually work!?

I have one of these bought from a US apple store. I have a MacBook pro 13" that I bought this year in the US. I have a 2009 Macbook pro that I bought in the UK. I bought this adaptor so I could use my 2009 power supply with my recent laptop; same wattage power supply but for reasons I cannot fathom, this thing just doest not work.

So, I gave it 1 star. Ultimately I should have given the $10 to charity - at least then i would not have wasted the money.

    Wears out

Don't expect this adapter to last. I had to get a new one after three months. It appears that the small connectors inside the converter wear out - I wonder if this is something to do with the heat generated.

    Rarely works - not recommended

    • Written by from Walsall

I have two Thunderbolt displays and a rMBP. I got one of these so I could use the charging cable on the displays - however despite the connector being firmly in place and providing power to the laptop, it won't charge the battery and the LED light on the charging cable does not light up. When using a CPU intensive app, it's actually possible to drain the battery of the laptop, forcing it into sleep mode.

On rare occasions it works as you'd expect, the LED illuminates and the battery charges - but it's so hit or miss you could spend 30 minutes plugging and unplugging the cable before it eventually works properly. Not recommended.

    Not satisfied

The idea of this i very good, and the converter is very robust despite its size.
But there are a few problems. It charges rather slow and it gets pretty hot pretty fast.
Sometimes it has got problems with charging, and the % keeps steady at whatever % i started charging from. This is getting worse with time, though i have only been using it for a year :-(

    Loose connection

Have 2 of them - both looses connection and they get extremely hot. The connectors on my Macbook Pro are miscoloured, and look burned. Would expect something this simple to work better.
