The design is good but I wish they'd have included an external mic input along side the line out and a remote control for music and video navigation would have been nice. in short it's too basic and has missed a trick

Was this useful? OK but could do with ext mic input and remote

Does what is says on the packet, however if like me you purchased one of Apple's 'iPad Smart Covers you have to remove it before docking.

Thankfully still had the dock I purchased for my original iPad, which unlike the third generation doesn't have the front plate which secures the iPad (3) into the dock. I can therefore leave my 'smart cover' on my iPad.

Disappointingly Apple didn't think to consider the marriage of the two when they were developing the dock, but then again we still have this very same issue with the iPhone Bumpers.

Was this useful? Works just fine but disappointing.

Very basic dock with limited application. Would have been nice if it came with a remote like the ipod touch/iphone dock. Would defiantly have paid more. Also the ipad3 wont fit in the dock with its case on? the design of this unit needs to be rethought.

Does a completely adequate job of supporting iPad 2 in portrait mode...

    However:

    - Would have been nice if it could also act as an iPhone dock; it's just slightly too tight.
    - Many Mac's don't have 10W capable USB ports, which means that the iPad won't charge very fast (actually says 'Not Charging', but it does, slowly). Would have been good to have an option of a supplementary power source when plugged into a Mac, rather than having to have a powered hub.
    - Why not also put a video port on it?
    - Doesn't support iPad 2 in landscape mode (dock plug gets in way). Would be nice, even if not simultaneously plugged in.

I bought this dock with intentions of it being a tidy way to charge and view the ipad. it is not.
    - the smart cover gets in the way of the dock. your option is to constantly take it off or leave it flapping.
    - the dock is not compatible with the iphone (or anything else). a shared dock for the kitchen top would be so much more useful. is this greed on apple's part or bad design?
    - it's portrait only, therefore no good for picture or video viewing. more care on how this was designed could have meant a landscape holder (e.g. sprung plug), even if you had to charge with a cable dangling in the end.
    - it's fiddly. because there are no left/right guides it doesn't fit home comfortably.

in short a waste of money, maybe a 3rd party dock has a better answer to the current limitations.

Can't use the smart cover while on the dock: this is very annoying.... Could probably be fixed by having a wider slot on the dock...

Sad, that in Apples usual near perfect designs, they don't accommodate the one thing that physically separates the first and second versions, something that costs 10% of the product itself.

Without the Smart Cover, and it fits fine, but it still feels like a design flaw to have to either remove, fold back or just leave the cover flapping undignified at the front.

Not really worth getting. Several faults in my opinion:

    - Does not accommodate iPad with the Smart Cover on
    - Pretty fiddly to line up iPad with connector
    - The dock is HUGE!
