Not as bulky as the others

This product is great as it doesn't bulk up your phone by as much as most of the other cases, plus the rim holds it off the table...as such. However it's overpriced on the apple website so I feel apple are pricing it wrong and putting people off.

    Great idea but marks phone

Loved the idea of the bumper, great design and looks great on the phone but within days of having it installed (from brand new and cleaned) I read a post from someone who said it had damaged the phone.

When I took the bumper off the stainless steel was tarnished in multiple places on all sides. Impossible most people say, it's stainless steel and the bumper is plastic/rubber.

If you don't believe it try it, most people who have used these have the same issue and the phone is forever damaged. The ONLY way to repair/fix it is to use an abrasive material to "brush" the steel and remove the marks. Not ideal.

I dont normally leave reviews. But as there are so many bad reviews I thought I would. I think this is a great case. I have had it for about a month now. I read reviews on here but as I was fed up with rubbish cases from eBay I spent the money on one of these. Was really pleased as soon as I put it on. Was tight to get on and it clipped in around the silver metal bit round the edge leaving no gaps. Is a really good fit. Now I read that it a loose fit? Mine is still really tight. My friend said his went loose when he took it off. Why would you want to take it off though? I don't get great signal then. So with regards to scratching I'm not sure if it has but don't see how it would as the underside of the buttons are covered in cloth. The buttons don't rattle either.

Maybe the case has been updated. I don't know but after a month I am still really happy with mine and would recommend them to anyone.

    BUMPER WILL SCRATCH YOUR PHONE

The Bumper looks good, fits well and provides protection, not forgetting of couse solving the arial problem on the iPhone 4 (the reason it was produced in the first place).

However, within 6 months its flimsy plastic skeleton had broken at the charging point and some of the rubber has perished. After 8 months it is finished.

The worst thing was found on removal - all of the metal sides of the phone are scratch and worn from rubbing. I am not alone in this as everyone I know with one has the same problem.

I wonder if Apple will refurb my phone for free?

Poor quality product not normal Apple standard

The bumper needs to be removed in order to charge the phone, the constant removal leads to the rubber splitting.
It should fit without having to perform this ritual.
Would not waste your money on this product.

Not bad, new version is an improvement

I've always used the bumper since receiving it as part of the free case programme. It's stylish, protects the front and back from scratches and I find the iPhone much easier to grip with the bumper on. I was a bit annoyed to find most earphones don't fit in the small hole in the bumper, nor does the old bulkier USB leads when charging. The bumper has also caused a fair few scuffs all around the metal casing of the iPhone, though it's not a big issue as I can't imagine using it without the bumper on.

The bumper does get looser over time and eventually a few weeks ago, started to split at the bottom. I took it to the Apple Store and was given a free replacement with no quibbles - great customer service from Apple.

The replacement bumper is much better than the original. The earphone and bottom connector holes are now bigger, meaning it can accomodate all earphones and the old charger lead now fits.

    Flawed Logic

The bumper has had a lot of negative criticism since it's release. It is, at heart, a product to at least attempt to cure the signal issue that plagues iPhone 4s and this is it's fundamental flaw. It seems that the bumper was an after thought and had 'antennagate' never reared it's head then the bumper would never have been designed and sold.

On the plus side, its one of the best bumper style products on the market today. It doesn't add any unnecassary bulk to the device and feels very nice to the touch. It is also a lot less pronounced than some other products on the market meaning it isn't uncomfortable to hold or use.

Sadly, the metallic buttons for the volume controls and the sleep/wake button are very loose fitting and as such, rattle when the phone is shaken or put down on a hard surface. The silent rocker is also in a recess that is quite difficult to reach, necissitating the use of a fingernail to flick it.

A disappointing effort from Apple but still a good product relative to the other bumper cases on the market. I'd avoid this if you're looking for full body iPhone protection, as well as perfection. Sadly, Apple's usually high standards seem to have fallen below the mark on this one.

    Terrible

This case is terrible. One of the fundamental reasons for having an iPhone is so that you can listen to music, but with the 'bumper' installed, the opening over the headphone socket is not big enough to accomodate my Sennheiser headphones, or any standard 3.5mm jacks for speakers - it only works with the Apple headset provided, which is just as terrible.

I bought one of these with my iphone 4 about 4 months ago to protect the phone. When I took it off two weeks ago to check dust etc I found it had scratched up all the aluminum band around my phone, needless to say i wasn't best pleased!! But, when i took it in to the genius bar they said it was under warrentee and gave me another. Problem solved but I certainly wont use another one even though some of my mates have used them and they are fine, I'll probably get a 100% rubber or leather cover next time to avoid the plastic rubbing aginst the band.

This is a good bumper, it does not cover either the front or the back. The bumper raises the phone from any surface, for instance a table surface. That way the front and back wont get scratched.
A negative thing is the dirt that builds up under the rubber bumper, if you dont clean it once in a while, the metal frame will get minor scratches.

    More aesthetic than protection

I got my Bumper with the Apple Case Programme. If you're one to use third-party equipment or the iPhone 4 Dock then don't bother with this. The case will begin to wear and split as you keep removing it. If you're happy using the standard earphones and a dock cable then the Bumper should be fine. As for protection I've never dropped my iPhone so couldn't comment on how much protection the Bumper provides you.

The was part of the free case due to lack of good reception. The case is loose, the mute button is hard to get to. It stops old accessories fitting to the phone and headphones with a thick fitting. Worst of all it scratch the iPhone on the sides.

This product is OK and when i say ok, i mean just OK. I have had it for 6 months, And today a part of it tore. I then proceeded to remove the bumper to find extensive scratching of the aluminum band. I will be returning to the apple store, to purchase another case, and i now have to find another case that i like and that will hide the scratches.
    Thanks a Bunch Apple.
(Moral of the story?, Buy a different case even if u prefer the bumper slightly better. Its just not worth wasting the money.)

Got this case as part of the free bumper case program. It looked nice for a month but when I took it off it had made marks on the metal antenna.

This case is an overpriced piece of garbage. Look for an altenative that Apple has not had a hand in manufacturing!!!

    £26 for this??

This is an atrocious waste of money. Considering this was a remedial measure to placate those affected by the 'death grip', Apple now have the audacity to charge over £25 for it; a plastic band with a bit of rubber.

Look elsewhere, look for something not made by Apple, Spek/incase are far superior, cost less and look better.

This is my second black bumper. Both have started to break up within 6 months. This second has cracked at the base. They do scratch the case. I resent spending £26 for this poor quality product.

If you do not want scratches on your phone do not buy this product. It looks nice but when you remove the case from the iphone after some time, there will be marks and scuffs left on the stainless steel band around the phone as the inside of the case is rough. Got the bumper from the free case program. Advice is to look for alternative cases.

Was very pleased when I received this for nothing as part of the free case program. But as the months have passed the rubber from the bottom has come apart on both sides as a result of taking the case off and putting it back on. I've also had to carve out a larger hole around the headphone socket as some jacks cannot fit into it properly. The plastic has also become scratched, but this is to be expected.
Aside from this it has done a great job in protecting my phone.
