try changing the time format if it doesn't work

    • Written by from Haverfordwest

someone mentioned changing the time format to 24 hour and the reader worked fine ... mine was on 24 hour and didn't work. But changing it to 12 hour started the photos app immediately.
Guess it must be the same format as on the card or something ... anyway, it worked for me. Mixture of RAW and jpeg, on sandisk SD, from Canon EOS 500D

Does what it says on the tin .....

    • Written by from newport

This kit works with both my Nikon cameras - my D80 SLR and my S5100 compact. It also works flawlessly with my variety of Sandisk Extreme SD cards.
The only negative thing I can express is my disappointment at the attitude of the Apple Store employee in Birmingham's Bullring who was singularly uninterested in helping me when I asked about being able to try them in my iPad2 before buying them. I've read other reviews in here that suggested different Apple stores were much more helpful.

    Apple iCan't Connect Kit

    • Written by from Newbury

Total and utter waste of money, trust me don't even be tempted by the Apple die-hard's weak support in these reviews, you would be far better off looking along the lines some kind of Bluetooth transfer of photos like Photo-sync or similar using a BT sd card reader. If you do buy this kit then don't buy your camera first but find out which cameras are compatible (there aren't many), frustratingly slow. This item highlights Apple's commitment to moving along with new technology....and just ignoring about what they have left behind. Who knows we may get a Connection kit 2, and then 3 or even 4 before the years out. I give this one star because the post was on time.

    More useful than I expected

    • Written by from Brighton

For what the two gizmos do this is jolly expensive. But it does import photos from an SD card very quickly (far quicker than into iPhoto on my Mac) and it's a great way of being able to show friends/family photos on the bigger screen of the iPad more or less immediately after being taken. Although it imports the RAW files from my Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ8 (it shows the JPG and RAW as a single file) when you try to import the RAW into iPhoto it says the format is unrecognised. But that's a problem with iPhoto, not this particular product. Added bonus: despite two or three initial warning messages from the iPad the USB adapter *does* let me connect a standard wired Apple Mac keyboard (the white with numeric version) to the iPad - works brilliantly. Well, like a real keyboard should do.

How to import any file into the iPad with the Camera Connection Kit (CCK)

    • Written by from WIRRAL

Tried on my iPad 2 (iOS6.1) with both the USB and SD card adapters. Not all USB sticks work, my 4GB USB initiative one does.

Plug your SD/USB into the PC.
Zip the files you need together and rename the zip file something like ZIP_1234.pdf
If its a single file, just rename it.

Make a DCIM folder on your SD/USB and paste the zipped.pdf file there.

Plug the CCK/SD/USB into your iPad and wait for the Photo app to start. Then import your PDF.

Now to get the PDF out of the Photo import folder, you can use the

Dropbox app, but you need wifi and to actually upload it to Dropbox first!

However, free App Store app iTransfer by ComcSoft works.
Select the ZIP_1234.pdf from the Photo Album/import folder.
Click on it then use Open In to get it to the file manager of your choice.
I use Files Pro. Once there, rename it to ZIP_1234.zip and then extract your files.
If it was a single non-zipped file, rename it back to what it was originally.

Good but..... no HD film support!

    • Written by from Devizes

Bought this so I could upload HD footage from a GoPro Head Camera, unfortunately the 1080p footage from the camera isn't supported, this may have been because of the iPad 2, i don't know!

It works great for importing photos via USB or straight from the SD card, just not HD film!

Successful transfer from Lumix TZ7 via USB cable. When I use the USB connector my Olympus TG-610 goes into battery charge mode and won't transfer. I can use the SD card from the Olympus, however, via the SD card connector,

    tempremental, not impressed.

    • Written by from edinburgh

thought this wasnt wotking (sd reader-havent tried camera connection) as it didnt work for several cards.
Seems howvwe it does work if it likes the files that are on there. One card had quicktime movies on it and it refused to load, not even the jpgs that were there.
another card with nilon raw files loaded fine.

    very strange.

NOTE - sd card needs to be in adapter before attached to ipad to work, at least with my one.

    Great midi keyboard input!

    • Written by from Fernandina Beach

Bought the kamera kit for my iPad2 to be able to connect my midi keyboard via the usb connector to control the Korg ms-20 app, the most midi keyboards will need power as the ipad can't run them alone on its own power. Worked great with my Evolution Mk -225c keyboard =)! Will not work with all midi keyboards, so check the net first.

    Does what it claims to

    • Written by from Coventry

This product does exactly what it claims to do. Connect the phone USB part of the kit and you can easily transfer your photos directly from your camera (with the USB lead that came with the camera). I've tried with two Sony cybershots and it worked flawlessly. The other part of the kit works well with my SDHC 8GB Extreme card that I use in my Canon EOS 500D. It even transfers the RAW files that the camera produces, and you can easily view them. Well done, Apple.
The only reason that I give it 4 stars rather than 5 is because Apple missed a trick with the USB adapter. Yes they advertise it as for connecting to your camera directly, but it would have been even better if they allowed it to connect to USB sticks for file transfer (not just photos), or maybe even for printer connection (I haven't tried this, but presume it won't work). One other thing it would be great for if the functionality becomes available in iOS4.2, would be for connecting your iPhone 4 to use it as a webcam or such (internet video calls?).
In my mind the product does exactly what it claims to do, but if the extra USB functionality was present, then the iPad would be a netbook killer.

In short, if you want something to transfer photos from cameras or your iPhone 4, then this is the kit for you.

I use this to hook my iPad with Retina Display to my Behringer Mixer using the Lightning to 30-pin adapter (cordless) and Behringer UCA222. Also works great with cameras but my old Sony Bloggie is not supported (uses too much power). Apple please help!

Works 100% with Sandisk 2GB Memory Card & Canon PowerShot A1200 Camera

    • Written by from Camberwell

Just bought this from Apple Store in Regent Street, London. It did not work with a Micro SD Adaptor with 2GB of Micro SD Memory inside it, but this could of been the adaptor itself as it was quite old.

I tried my Canon PowerShot A1200 digital camera's 2GB Memory Card in the Memory Kit and it worked straight away, as did my camera when I plugged it directly into the USB Kit. So overall I am satisfied, hence the 5 Star rating.
