    Terrible quality

Have to replace about every 6 months. It just isn't durable enough and apple know it - but don't seem to be fixing the fault.

Apple's worst product of all time

    • Written by from Nuthall

Absolutely appauled by this product. My 3rd one has literally just conked out on me for no reason whatssoever and I've only had it 3 weeks.
Apple should be disgusted in themselves for making a woeful product like this.
People expect reliable products from Apple but for sure, this is just DREADFUL!!!

It frays quickly and easily and I need to replace it after a year and a half of normal use. The previous one lasted 5 years.

Terrible - Pull your finger out Apple and redesign the charger!

    • Written by from Bristol

Apple, seriously, what is wrong with you - Someone, please, design a mag safe cable that isn't complete pants.

I don't care if the cable looks ugly and doesn't match your design philosophy, I just want a power cable for my Macbook Air that works and doesn't perpetually split and fray.

Macbook Air is brilliant, surely it can't be that difficult to make a decent power cable as the current one is complete garbage - it needs some sort of stress relief portion next to the magnetic connector. I'm on the third power supply now and at £65 a shot, I'm getting fed up with having to buy new ones.

I've also got a 5 year old Toshiba Satellite Pro worth £350 and the charger's still going strong - Sort it out Apple for god sake, by now you should really be paying attention to all the 1 star reviews and doing something about it.

On fourth charger in four years.

    • Written by from Hove

I am now looking to buy my fourth charger in the space of approximately four years. All have failed due to bad connection at the magnetic end that connects to the laptop.

Will not be buying genuine again.

    Not very good

    • Written by from Bristol

Flimsy charger, and not up to the excellent quality of the macbook pro. Very easily damaged if you frequently travel with your macbook.

Hard to unplug the long lead due to small plug size. The narrow gauge wire (the tail to the magsafe plug) is vulnerable to wear due to the way it protrudes from the top of the adapter body.

The adapter casing is poorly bonded.

    Expensive to replace.

Like everyone else on here my charger has become frayed through normal use after 2 years. I spent £1000 on a Mac Book Pro and now I am beyond frustrated at the fact that I have to fork out £65 to buy a new charger and will continue to be forced in to buying new chargers until Apple recognise that this is an issue and do something about it. At least reduce the price if you can't improve the product!

Not worth the laughable price tag.

    • Written by from Guildford

Firstly I have to say I like Apple products, I am a graphic designer and they are great for what I do from a day-to-day basis. I also get it yes.. of course you need to make them more expensive than the competition to give the user the satisfaction that they are paying for Apple quality and the positive benefits that come with that.

What I don't get is the need to make Apple users pay way over the odds for simple things like chargers, adaptors, headphones etc. If your adaptors were made of some kind of nigh-on unbreakable wire then fine, great, charge nearly £70 for a simple adaptor. But they aren't. Oh what's that you say? They have a lovely gimmicky magnet which allows you to find where the charge socket on your laptop is in the dark?? No, not just the dark, but it helps the cable from not tearing. Er... but it doesn't does it. As many people here have mentioned, the main area where the cable snaps, tears or rips is by the heavy part of the charger - the actual power adaptor. Is there any super duper magnet or tangle free system here to help? ..... No. It tangles, it tears, it becomes defunct like any cheap adaptor anywhere else.

Sort it out Apple, either make the power adaptor worth the pounds/euros/dollars or just make it cheaper. Stop taking the Mick.

Its not like people wouldn't ever need to buy an adaptor ever again as every-time you bring out a new machine you change the connector anyway!

Yet another failed charger and Apple product shut down

    • Written by from Poulton le fylde

Yet another Charger less than 18 months stopped working. Now sharing one charger with three laptops. Why should I buy another given the lack of reliability ?

Also I have a failed power book and one dead iMac This is getting very expensive ( products don't last much beyond 4 years )

Not to mention I phones that last 12 to 18 months before home button fatigue or software crashes and freezes.

Beautiful products that age badly !

Time apple started offering replacement packages for loyal but disappointed customers

Poor build quality, very over priced. Justification?

    • Written by from HUDDERSFIELD

How can Apple justify £65 for a laptop charger, and especially one of such poor build quality?
I currently have a MacBook Pro, an iPhone, and in the past I've owned various iPods. On the whole I've been very happy with these products. However my laptop charger has broken and now needs replacing. At £65 I'm not sure whether I'm prepared to buy something which I know will only break again very soon. Now that I've spent so much on a MacBook, I'm also aware that I don't have a choice. This really makes me feel taken advantage of. As a customer I feel very let down, and I think when my current products reach the end of their lifespan I'll have a serious think about what else is available. Very disappointed, I expected a lot better.

Please could Apple provide me with an answer to justify this price tag?

This is the third magsafe cable i've had to replace in less than 2 years - each time it has turned yellow at the magnetic connector end, then become loose and baggy, and finally split. I treat this thing with kid gloves and the computer remains docked most of the time. This is ridiculous and means I have to buy a new charger every 7 months or so. Clearly this is a design flaw - there is almost no strain relief at the connector end allowing the insulation sheath to creep down the wire, and separate causing it to split. This could easily be remedied by making the outer sheath that goes into the metal magsafe housing longer.

    not durable

    • Written by from DERBY

My mac is about 4 years old and this is my 3rd charger. The cord disintegrates through normal use. I don't even move my charger cable around much and it always goes bad. Apple really need to forget having a so called elegant looking thin cord and get a thicker more durable one. For saying how much the macbook pro itself cost and then to get replacement things like chargers £65 is bad. These chargers should really be no more the £20 as you have to keep replacing them. All apple chargers in my house do not stand the test of time.

    Terrible design

    • Written by from Singapore

Just like everyone else's, the cable has frayed and become almost useless.

The design has been like this for some time, so why has Apple not redesigned this. Clearly this is an inherent problem. Given all the negative feedback they should realise they need to address this.

This is a lot of money to spend on something that should not had arisen.

Have been through 2 chargers in 14 months as it keeps breaking where it connects to the transformer. I am having to get a third charger and my saving grace is that i paid for 3 yrs extended warranty when i bought my MBP from Argos otherwise i would have been in deep trouble. The replacement cost is eye watery and i am dreading when my warranty expires how i'm going to fork out £65 for a useless and over priced charger!

    Useless

    • Written by from Royal Leamington Spa

For a charger that is priced this high it is extremely low quality. The rubber casing eventually disintegrates and eposes the internal wiring for the cord. If this exposed cord does not electrocute you first it will eventually become separated and stop working entirely. All the while apple will try their best not to replace the charger until it completely stops working, and by then your warranty will be up and you will have to pay for a new charger.
