i bought my mac in America so i had to shorten my charging cable because of the plug so i was very sceptical of buying a new one with all the bad reviews and the fact i couldn't buy that bit separate so i bit the bullet and i cant really can't see why the product has so many bad reviews its been perfect so far.. just double check that you are buying the right one for your mac make sure its the same as the one that came with the box if your not sure just go in store and ask or email apple with all the details of your mac and I'm sure they will be able to point you in the right direction :)

Absolutely fine - don't know what all the other reviews are talking about!

    • Written by from LONDON

As far as I can tell, this is exactly the same power adapter as the one you receive in the box when you buy a MacBook Pro. I asked at the store for them to compare them for me and they confirmed that they are the same.

I'm not sure why all of the negative reviews, I can only imagine that the reviewers bought the chargers for their laptops with the wrong wattage.

The adapter comes with a year guarantee also.

I'll report back in a couple of months with an updated review.

After my first charger got snagged between some moving furniture and broken after five years of faultless use I had two third party replacements fail in six months before biting the bullet and forking out for an apple replacement which is still going strong after a year.

I would not hesitate to recommend this charger over the third party knockoffs available elsewhere at half the price or less.

I don't see what the bother is, this charger does the job, and I haven't had to replace it, had it 5 months. That's a record for an apple product.

    Works fine

    • Written by from Paddington

My first charger which came with my 2-year macbook pro was broken last month, and by broken, i mean, the cable snapped at the metal head (definitely my fault since i folded it, stepped on it etc) so I came to this site to get a new one. I was surprised to see many negative reviews regarding the charger... and I thought maybe the charger is different from the broken one.

But i got it anyway since I was desperate. To my surprise, its literally the same charger like I used to have. It works just fine and I have no problem so far... So I am not sure why some users encountered various problems with the charger.

This product is actually just what you would should expect. A working charger, no faults, just what you need. Don't think that its like all the negative comments. yes i've only had mine for 4 days but i have also had my own issue with that area of hardware within that time. After one day it just stopped working....... which seems similar to what everyone else says. i took it to the apple store after trying it on another macbook which other people may not have the resources to do so but it worked. so i thought it was my macbook. Turns out because its a new model of charger all i needed was a software update. once that was done BAM!! works fine. so there we are, had my own issue wasn't to do with charger, also it doesn't get hot on the little metal bit. its worth paying £50 to get an apple one as well rather than from ebay or amazon.

    with me through and through

I have used the same power adapter for 3 years taking it with me across the world and its been in every type of situation wether it be next to the stove or in the snow. It still works properly with the only wear and tear being the little letters on the side that they are a bit faded.

    Well mine's lasted!

    • Written by from Edinburgh

My adapter is now about a year old and still going strong, not had any problems with it whatsoever, it's regularly used, and regularly wound up. Love the magsafe magnet, it just makes sense.

Bought the new 2011 13 inch MacBook Pro a few months ago and wondered how much it would cost to replace the charger, £50... Not a bad price for such a high quality piece of kit.

-It's MagSafe, one of the best types of chargers I've come across.
-The transformer doesn't get nearly as hot as my old Dell or Acer laptops.
-Charges REALLY quickly, within an hour it's full and will last a good 5 or 6 hours.
-Transformer has a built-in cable tidy, which really made me smile when I got it out of the box.

-The laptop connector does get quite warm but I imagine this is because the laptop and charger are both metal.
-The cable tends to hold it's shape witch is no big deal but if i'm unwrapping it in a hurry it can be irritating.
-It blew a fuse in the first week but I'm told there was a power surge in my street.

Overall well worth the money, especially so if you are replacing the old T style connector as I hear that style was awful.

Have you checked the Fuse in the plug?

    • Written by

I've had my MacBook since 2008 and have never had a problem with the power supply till this morning! There was no life in it at all, I have always taken great care of the wires but gave them a wiggle just in case, nothing! I flapped as I use it for work and looked on line and found all these bad reviews and thought, great I'll need to go and get a new one! Then I thought I would just try a new fuse in the plug just in case as I know that when plugging into certain extension sockets it has popped once or twice. I am happy to say that it worked, that's all it needed was a new 3amp fuse! sometimes its the simplest things we forget about. So it's worth trying in a new fuse next time before you think about going straight out to buy a new one, or at least if it still doesn't work you can then rule it out as being a part of the problem - Hope that helps someone!

Perfect as long as your Mac's connector still is

    • Written by from HAYWARDS HEATH

This PSU is better than the cheap replacements elsewhere (just try operating anything like a radio near the 2 different adaptors to see the sort of rubbish RF the cheap ones emit). I much prefer the connector versus the old T one as well.

Those with the heating up connector issue need to make sure it's not wear/dirt/damage to their Mac's connector where this plugs in, it's by far the most likely cause (not the replacement PSU itself), and might even be why the first adaptor gave up the ghost. You will end up going through more of them until you get that sorted.

    Much better than T Adaptor!!

    • Written by from Kenilworth

Having owned a white macbook from 2008, I recently purchased a macbook air to replace it. In the interim whilst transferring data between the two computers I regularly charged both from the L Adaptor - both with no issues...

I have owned the air now for 6 months and the charger is still works/looks as good as day 1.

Having been a user of both I find the L considerably more functional.

    - Due to the 90deg alignment I find the cable doesn't detach very easily, a common problem I found with the T.

    - The Metal connector definitely does not get hot...

    - The connection worked just fine on both old and new macbooks.

    - Although the transformer does get warm, this is inherent with the physics of transformers. Both my old T and my dell work laptop's charger get's a lot hotter...

    - The transformer is slightly smaller

Overall better than the T, but still quite expensive to replace (but you buy a mac knowing the accessories are a rip-off!)

I dont see what the problem is.

    • Written by from benfleet

I've had my MacBook Pro for over 6 months now. The charger has been completely fine. No problems at all. All the other reviews seem to say different but remember, its only people who have had problems who are complaining. There are thousands of working ones out there. They've just got the unlucky ones.

I always leave mine plugged in and switched on (dont blame me for global warming) and mine hasn't overheated once. Saying that, everytime i've touched it, its not even been close to warm.

So i'd highly recommend this charger. Most probably the best one on the market by far.

I have been looking at the other reviews about this charger and most of them say this is rubbish. What are you doing with it? So far this charger works really well with me and it looks a lot better as well. Apple well done! Don't listen to those people...

Works really well for me, better than T-head version

    • Written by from Saffron Walden

I don't know what all the negative reviews here are going on about. I lost my T-head adapter, and the reviews here concerned me, but I didn't have any choice but to get this new model (the "straight head", where the power line goes directly into the adapter, which then attaches along the side of the computer; first seen on the MacBook Air).

    - the magnet is much stronger than the T-head version. It's a limpet.
    - you can easily see if it's attached correctly. There's a light on it. No light = not attached right. Rocket science this is not.
    - the cable is thicker than the previous T-head model, which may be to do with the problems of previous versions. I think that's solved now.
    - the point where the cable attaches to the head is reinforced with a plastic sleeve, so less likely to be a failure point
    - don't wind the cable around the widgets on the adapter. It will weaken it and stress the wires inside. Especially if you do it tightly. Far better if you can to loop it loosely. But you can see that it looks neat to wind it around the adapter arms. Well, sometimes design and electrical safety are not quite in agreement.
    - the head doesn't get hot in my experience (which includes charging it). I haven't had much cause to feel it, either (though I suppose you could find yourself resting it on your knees).

All in all, an improvement on the previous T-head generation. Ignore the grumblers.

    Reliable and Good Design

    • Written by from Coventry

I have used the L Shape Magsafe for a while now and it is a very good unit. I am not sure what the other reviewers are doing to their charging units but there are no problems with this product.

If you're dumb enough to keep it stored in water and bend the cable to silly degrees then of course any charger would break.

As long as you use the charger correctly, you will have a long and happy life.

Had mine since 2009 - No Problems

    • Written by from Seaford

Something funny going on here - I can't believe that so many people are having problems with these. I have an 85w MagSafe from 2006, a 60w 'T-style' from 2009 that I keep at home and this newer style (also from 2009) that I use in the office 5 days per week. They all just work perfectly and I wrap the cables around the built-in hooks regularly too!
If you really have a problem with them then why not take them into your local Apple Store and give us some real feadback as to why they 'broke' or underperformed??

    • Written by from Ilford

I don't know what the other reviewers are on about?

Bought this as a replacement for my old T-shaped magsafe.

I'm using an old style 13" white macbook, running Leopard with the most recent firmware upgrade.

I've had absolutely no issue with the charger, and the metal connector does not get hot as many people have been saying!

As far as I'm concerned, it does exactly what it says on the tin.
