    Awful

Bought this as my old original T-shape maglock charger for my macbook stopped working.

Have had it a total of maybe, 2-3 weeks and if I want to charge my laptop the cable has to be put into a very specific position.

Also the metal head that connects to your macbook gets very hot and can burn you.

I will be requesting a replacement and would hope that apple would stop using cheap materials and over charging because of their brand.

    Broken and burns

I bought this charger probably about 2 or 3 months ago to replace my old one which was the last version the white T shaped one which worked fine without problem until then and was about 3 years old.
The past week or 2 it has slowly started to stop working properly going off when I move it the tinniest amount and then takes a while to get back working again, this is what happened to my old charger before it broke. Now today I felt the head of the charger and the temperature was ridiculous I physically cant hold it in my hand for longer than 4 seconds without being burned! Im worried that it may set on fire if it keeps getting worse. Im going to get in contact with apple to see if they can replace it or something for me. Iv noticed im not the only one as somebody else has posted the same thing as me.

check out the US websites reviews before purchasing one of these. I have to remove the battery on my 2008 MacBook just to make this charger work.
I need a reliable charger, and this is not it.
It's going back to the shop tomorrow, hopefully for a refund

    Hi
I find it totallly disgusting how these chargers burn out so quickly and just stop working alltogether. you have to constantly replace at £50.00 a pop. Apple make billions of dollars surely they should be able to fix this charger problem once and for all.

Honestly, Apple? I expected better. It caused my MacBook to just turn off unexpectedly innumerable times, before only charging intermittently and then killing itself. And when you consider the price we pay for it; I now have to fork out £50 because of a faulty product. Just plain unacceptable.

    Terrible lifespan...

I've now had three separate magsafe power adapters fail on me in around the 1.5 years I've had my macbook. The first, older style one actually lasted the longest despite how rough I was with it. One I got this style of charger though I was a lot more careful with how I treated the wire, and they still lasted much less than the original one my computer came packaged with. The wiring either connecting to the adapter or to the magsafe connector doesn't last long and seems to get quickly frayed from careful usage.

The cost is way too high for the terrible lifespan of the product.

The only Apple product I'm dissatisfied with

This is my second charger in four years. I treated the second one with particular care because I had to fork out £60 to replace the first one that broke, and now this one has broken too. I'm a student and can't afford to pay out for a charger that shouldn't have broken in the first place.

I've not wrapped the cable round the pop out bits because I knew that would cause it to break. I've not exposed it to water or excessive heat, and I've curled the wire up gently when travelling. I've only used this cable the way one would expect to be able to use a portable item, and now it's broken! This is a useless charger. It is a hindrance to a perfectly good laptop. I'm otherwise a huge fan of Apple and this has really let me down.

I bought my Macbook a year ago and is know about to buy my third charger. This is complete joke and robbery! I can not believe that a other so great product has such a terrible charger that constantly breaks! Im so tired of it and do not understand why apple does not make a new improved charger when they obviously knows and are made aware of that this is not working.... I will never buy another apple product if this is how they treat their customers.

3rd charger for this laptop - can't afford any more.

These chargers are absolutely awful, truly the only thing I hate about my macbook. My first charger stopped charging all of a suddden one day so I replaced it. Less than 6 months later, this charger seems to have mysteriously disintegrated, I have been holding it together with a mixture of electrical tape and prayer for a few weeks now. I have to buy a new one, because it is the only option - but surely Apple knows how terrible their power cables are? Yet they always stay the same.

    Magsafe woes

I bought a L-shape Magsafe adaptor in March 2010 to replace my second burned-out T-shape adaptor and guess what, it dies in September 2010 - 6 months lifetime! OK the first was replaced under the warranty covering my MacBook but the third L-shaped one is only covered by a 90 DAY WARRANTY, so beware. I was told by Apple Support that it may be a fault with my MacBook and to have it checked out but having read other reviews it seems that there is a problem with the quality of the adapter, The guy at support agreed it was ridiculous that these adapters are only supplied with such a limited 90 day warranty but I am still left having to buy another. At this rate, it could cost around about £90 a year for adapters!

I am now on my third charger in 1 and a half years. They burn out quickly and suddenly without warning cease to function. You fiddle with the cables thinking if you hold it up high or coiled in a certain way it will suddenly fix itself. This does not happen. Simply the mac adapter’s are sub-standard and apple know of this too well but do nothing about it. Instead the price for new ones has remained at £50 despite all the complaints. This has put me off buying a macbook again and simply will be going back to windows for my next computer in the coming year. For now I have to fork out more money to get a charger which will probably last until the summer.

    Evidently Flawed

Having owned my MacBook for coming on 2 years with no problems at all with the power adapter, I was glad I'd forked out the extra pounds on an Apple product. However, in the past two weeks, I've had 2 power adaptors fail on me. Reading the reviews, and experiencing it myself, it seems quite clear to me that there is a serious design flaw with the power adapters. What's worse is that they expect us to pay £50 for an evidently substandard product, with no alternative for the consumer. Now I'm going to have to spend another £10 in petrol travelling to and from the Apple store for the third time in two weeks. That's £80 plus 3 lost mornings of work. I hope this problem is fixed as soon as possible. I cannot afford such frequent journeys to get a replacement. Please, Apple, maintain my loyalty.

Ok, it's an innovative system; fine it may fail at some point, like all wires do eventually (although this one seems to fail earlier than others). However charging 50 quid for a replacement is not fair. Mine is now showing signs of fatigue after a little bit more than 1 year, i.e. need to position the cable in a particular way to get power... how disappointed to find out the instance price of a replacement.

Apple chargers (and Apple cables in general) are unfortunately of such a bad quality that it's laughable - and this charger is of no exception. And are priced so high that it is an insult. Unfortunately you don't have any other choice when you use the rest of their hardware (which is great). Either they break where the wire meets the plug (as in their USB and such cables) or they break where the cable meets the adaptor (as in their power adaptors). Even when you use the well know "loop the cable beforehand if you intend to wind the cable up on the 2 hooks" technique they break (yes. The to hooks strain the cable even more if you actually just use them the way you would THINK that they should work - what "intuitive design").
I'm working through my THIRD adaptor in three years.
    Thank you Apple....not

    L shaped cord epic fail

This is my fourth power cord from apple, you think they would get a clue and fix the issue. Enough with design make a product that works. They charge 80$ for a new one I'm being robbed and I'm am so annoyed. This is absolute foolishness, I buy apple products because there supposed to have great quality I don't see that. My L shaped cord keeps breaking in the same spot and on top of that this last one nearly burned my house down. Apple needs to get it together or I'm switching.

Only lasted a month when handled with care, shocking!

36 of 37 people found this useful

Firstly - this only gets one star because it looks good (and you can't put 0 stars). I have had this product for 1 month after replacing an old charger that had stopped working. It has already stopped working and after the issues with the last one, I had handled this one incredibly gently to try and get as long out of it as possible. Obviously I can get a replacement but I really shouldn't need to waste my time.

Serious problems here apple - listen to your customers - replace this charger.

Second in 3 years - shocking failure rate on this product

    • Written by from Edinburgh

35 of 36 people found this useful

So when you read every review on this product you can see it's a consistently poor performer, I'd just like to add to the list.

Now reading the others it seems like 2 in 3 years is a great rate compared to others, but in reality a charger going once in 3 years is very poor for a brand such as Apple never mind 2 in 3 years.

I'd say avoid this product but what other options did I have at the time?? The original blew so had to buy another which blew and now the last one has gone.

Again, avoid ... But I assume the only other option is to sit with a blank screen MacBook.

Apple, you really need to do something here, your standards here are appalling. I'm actually angry that I had to give it one star, it doesn't deserve that.

    Power cable

My first power cable broke. Bought a replacement. In less than a year, it has stopped working. So I need to buy a 3rd power cable. This is a rip off. Apple should know by now there is something wrong with the product design of the power cables and fix it. I will never buy another Apple laptop ever again.
