Bought so I can extend wireless range of Time Capsule.

    • Written by from Hove

Just keeps dropping network! Would be listening to Sonos in the bedroom and it would cut out... go to the hallway where the airport express is and it would be flashing orange. A restart and then it goes green again with excellent reception. After spending far too long on the phone with Apple to try and get this sorted we are fed up with it and have to live with turning off and back on again about 3 times a week. Not great.

This is not worthy of Apple

    • Written by from Woldingham

I bought 2 Airport Express devices so that I could extend my WiFi network around the house and stream media (radio & music) from my iPhone/iPad to a Bose speaker connected to the Airport Express......the network is basically unstable and streaming is virtually impossible as it drops connections and buffers....the free (ie: cheap) wireless router I have from my ISP (TalkTalk) is far better, more stable and has greater range.

The only Apple kit I have reason to complain about having everything from iPod nano's and Touch's through to iPhone and iPad and the latest iMac the Airport Express is a dog and not worthy of the Apple badge or the price

    Disappointed

After trying it in multiple locations the express did not boost, extend or improve my WiFi one little bit, if anything it seemed to make it worse. The AirPlay was a total disappointment, it could not play music for more than a few seconds without dropping out, even from a metre away! I expected more from an Apple product, I thought it would just work..

    Does not work

    • Written by from Loughborough

AirPlay works maybe 30% of the time, and when it does, it cuts out after 10 minutes. Everything is set up, everything is sat next to the router. It just does not work. Never buy an Airport Express

    Very annoying useless gadget

    • Written by from London

Airport Express is a beautifully designed useless piece of junk. You will have problems with connectivity issues if not owning Time Capsule or such like as well.

After a dozen or so attempts to resolve the very annoying blinking orange light issue I was confronted with….no Internet connectivity! And no, not only on Airport Express but on my iPad as well. The whole process is counter-intuitive and any help peppered with jargon (to non-geeks). Hey, even the experts could not agree how to reset the irritating thing!

Needless to say, the item is rapidly making its way back to Apple. I’ll do with the normal cable instead – at least it is working.

    Very disappointing.

Will not connect to my Cisco E4200 router's 5Ghz band but connects to the 2.4Ghz band OK; I tried moving it closer to the router but still no 5Ghz connection. There is also a huge problem with jitter when connected through the optical output to my M-DAC (check apple forums). I have a 1st generation Airport Express which works perfectly with the same DAC and fibre optic interconnect. I'll be returning the Airport Express for a refund in the morning!

    Nothing but trouble

    • Written by from London

The first two boxes I purchased were faulty and had to be returned to apple within weeks as their status lights began flashing orange while the unit would broadcast on all channels blocking any Wifi signals from other sources in the area. Now the third and current box will not connect to my work PC at all and of the three Macs in our house it only connect to one immediately; with the other two it’s a case of switching them on (or waking from sleep) then five minutes of going into internet preferences deleting old locations adding new locations switching Airport on and off before finally it decides to kick in – no explanation and no help on this issue, despite reading numerous online help pages. Also self-assigned IP is another frequently occurring problem; this means you see and connect to the base station but it then won’t connect to the internet. The unit is riddled with issues and is shoddy rubbish for something that is more than twice the price of the competitors products that do the same job. Avoid yourself the trouble and save some money and don’t make the same mistake I did.

    Big step back....

Very disappointed with the new Airport Express. I currently have 6 of these extending my network from a time capsule all around the house and garden. At the moment they all very conveniently plug into wall sockets, but this new device has to sit on the floor with a lead hanging down from the socket. I'm looking at using double sided sticky foam pads to stick them to the wall by the sockets, but its not really an acceptable solution. Its just very untidy and obviously poorly thought out, not what one normally expects from Apple. I just hope that they soon produce a wall socket power adapter so that they can be plugged into the wall as before.
