    Airport express

Bought this to extend my wireless network and it works perfectly. Also have an added bonus of connecting it to a sky box (via the Ethernet port) to use anytime+.
Very easy to set up with the Airport Utility.

    Simply the best...

    • Written by from PRESTON

I've used tens of different routers both on home networks and in business.
At home, I took the plunge to replace a perfectly functional router with an AirPort Express.
Unbelievably easy to set up, it was significantly faster for both PC & Mac clients than the Belkin router, and in a test, faster too than a Cisco Aironet AP.
I echo all the other comments regarding having a separate power cable as this gives much better flexibility than the previous plug-in unit, especially when travelling when the power sockets are never where you want them to be or have much space around them!
In short, I have been so impressed over the last few weeks that I have now bought an AirPort Extreme as a base station (I needed the extra LAN ports), and 3 more AirPort Express units. Three of the airport express units are used as wireless range extenders of the base network (very easy to set up, and far faster than a powerline adapter for a big old house with very solid stone walls). The remaining Airport Express unit now travels with me, bringing easy wireless set up in hotel rooms with cabled Internet. This is often far faster and more secure than the hotel Wi-Fi network. In short, brilliant product.

set up with sky anytime + within minutes!

    • Written by from northampton

I have an Apple Airport Extreme connected to my Virgin broadband router ( wifi turned off ) and i have just bought an Apple Airport Express to connect to & extend my network. I have used the ethernet port from the Express to use with my Sky box for anytime + and I managed to set it up in under 5 minutes. I did concider the Sky anytime + wireless connector, but for an extra £19 i can get the Apple Airport Express and extend my wireless network as well, so it was a no brainer!!

    Best £79 pound iv spent!!!

    Highly recommended!!!

    Superb

Wanted to extend my netgear router wireless range so it could reach around the garden and have excellent strength. Decided to go with purchasing two of them instead of one Airport Extreme as I figured this would give me a better range. Plugged the first one in the router and the iPhone found seconds. Gave it a password and network created. Wanted to use the second AE to extend the network from the first AE. I couldn't figure out how to do this with my iPhone so used my Mac to configure which it did within minutes.
Excellent router and would highly recommend.

    Must buy

I have been using this for about 1 month now and have had no issues. I have been using the express with my BT Infinity modem and much prefer this over BT's router due to its low profile form factor. The router has all the bells and whistles most people will need, such as built in firewall, Mac address filtering etc. all in all highly recomended. The express also puts out a better signal than my old BT router too.

    Easy to extend network

    • Written by from DIDCOT

Have a wired network and a wireless network. One building is out of range of wireless. In that building I used the WAN socket to plug this in to the wired ethernet, plugged the computer into the LAN socket, and bingo - wired connection OK and my wireless network has been extended to that building. It all set itself up automatically. Could not be simpler.

    Additional Port

    • Written by from STOCKPORT

This is a great little box. The old audio out (Digital Optical or Analogue) and USB from the previous box are still there - thats pretty good for less than 80 pounds
THEN Apple add a LAN port too! - even more network extension options.
Improvements to the Airport utility have made set up really easy.
This is one of Apple's gems

Even my wife could set it up!

    • Written by from ABERDEEN

That sounds terribly sexist but my wife is a technophobe and still manage to set this up to extend a neighbours wifi (with permission!) into her father's house while she was looking after it while he was in hospital.
Now, instead of having to sit in one particular room, she has wifi throughout the house.
Great product. I use a last gen. one for travelling (for the rare occasions hotels don't have wireless.

The Airport Express update I've been waiting for?

    • Written by from Glasgow

We live in quite a very large house and have always had problems with WiFi.
Previously been using a 3rd gen Airport Extreme and 4 x 1st gen Airport Express in a WDS setup things just were never as great or reliable as they should have been.

Yesterday I finished an upgrade to 1x 3tb Time Capsule (in the home office with 2 iMacs connected by Ethernet leaving 1 Ethernet port free)
I upgraded all the Airport Express to the new version and design. ( and added an extra 2 so we now have 6)
Decided not to use WDS this time round and opted to connect by Cat6 cable.
This went to the first airport express and this then daisy chained to the next and the next and so on.

All units are set to create the exect same network (a roaming network if you must)
    This works perfectly.

As all units are effect,y connect to the main Time Capsule by Cat6 there is a full 1gb data transfer rate between units and or the main Internet coming into the house (100meg Fiver from Virgin Media)

I would highly recommend this setup to anybody with a large house.

Replaced Airport First Generation with Second Generation

    • Written by from Southport

I have replaced two Airport Express 1G with 2G. The speed of data transfer has noticeably increased on my iMac's 27" and to a lessors extent on the 21.5" iMac. The setting up was easy being completed in 2-3 minutes the stability of the connection appears to be better than with 1G with no need to restart the 2G overnight. The design of the product is much improved neat and very Apple. Having run speed tests before and after installation the speed has increased in downloads and uploads of data.

If you are using a lot of data this is a must have upgrade and worth while if you are experiencing and stability issues.

    WiFi Perfection - Thankyou

    • Written by from Woodbridge

At last....I now have a wireless network that covers the whole house. Easy to setup and extend an existing Airport network. I am using 1 x Airport Extreme and two of these new Airport express base stations connected together over Netgear powerline adapters. Complete WiFi coverage with seamless switching when moving around the house. The added bonus of Airplay and network access to USB printers is superb.

    Exactly what I needed

    • Written by from EGHAM

Got one of these yesterday ... and it's brilliant ... only 10 minutes after it arrived I was streaming music from my iPad to my HiFi. and the quality is brilliant ... must be a good DAC in there.

Note for prospective purchasers ... make sure you install the Airport Utility App (Free) on your iPad (or iPhone or iPod) then the setup is incredibly easy.
