I must say this is the best accessory for the Mac. I find it is so much easier to use than a mouse and it looks rather cool too. It makes it a lot easier when I go from using my iPad to using my Mac.

I got this for Christmas and was eagerly awaiting using it. Unfortunately my Mac is two years old and doesn't have Snow leopard. I went to my local apple retailer and, as always, they didn't have it. I then ordered it off amazon and have been enjoying it since. The reason it didn't get 5 stars was because it didn't state clearly enough that you needed snow leopard to run it. I am quite ashamed that my local apple retailer didn't stock it. But apart from that it is a brilliantly easy device to use.

This is a great bit of kit when you eventually get to use it. The Trackpad works fine with no problems on my Mac Pro but it's a different story on my iMac. If I have to reboot my iMac then it takes at least 10-15 mins, switching the pad on and off and using a mouse to fiddle with settings etc. to reconnecet. I love using the pad but please apple sort out the awful connectivity issues.

PS. a battery charge indicator as my wireless Keybord and Mouse would be nice also.

Set your prefs carefully - AVOID DRAG LOCK

I have already written a review under another Apple ID, written too soon after purchase to be really valid. My main criticism then was that it was too sensitive when using touch to click - would be better if the sensitivity here could be user-adjusted. This comment still stands - hence 4 rather than 5 stars.

Several months on, I'm getting used to it, and I like it, but I still keep my mouse and use it often, mainly for Finder file-organising tasks, when the trackpad can be too unpredictable in its drag-and-drop mode. However, I have recently discovered that careful settings of prefs helps a lot - I had assumed that the Apple defaults (every option ticked) would be a Good Thing, and I just needed to get used to the Apple recommended way of doing things...... but the one "feature" that I find very counter-intuitive is Drag Lock; if this is selected, you have to click AGAIN to "drop" something - lifting your finger off doesn't do anything (in the way that a mouse works). This gives very awkward behaviour when moving files into folders. Deselecting this behaviour greatly improves things.

So, I will keep the faith - for now!

Having saved up and bought the beautiful Magic Mouse and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread, along comes my very generous brother and gives me a Magic Trackpad for Christmas. So far I have not missed the mouse. I have used the trackpad for email, surfing and some photoshop work on the festive snaps, it is so easy. This must be the most intuitive input device ever made. So well done Apple for making such a brilliant product and thank you to my brother, a second hand Magic Mouse anyone?

There does seem to be a pattern emerging here, iPhone, iPods, iPads, iOS4.2, MacOS Lion...Bring it on!

I went to Apple Store a few times to try out the trackpad but still couldn't get use of it. A few weeks later, I decided to take the plunge, and bought one for myself as X'mas present. Best decision ever.

Took it home with me and took less than a minute to setup and 5 minutes to master it. A very clever design. Easy to use, especially for web surfing. It was a doodle.

Remember to keep your USB mouse with you though. A few days ago, I needed to boot my iMac from Installation CD, it started looking for my USB mouse.

Buy it if you have the money to spare and currently running on Snow Leopard.

Bought the trackpad because I liked the one I use on my Macbook Pro. The elegance and simplicity of the design is gorgeous. It merges with my Mac perfectly, negating the need for a mouse or mouse mat. It is simple to use and you can customise your preferences at any time. It takes a little getting used to, after using the mouse for so long, but once mastered you'll never go back! 5 Star Rating!!

Nice idea - but style over ergonomics

I really like the idea but I have returned to a mouse within less than a week from wrist pains. Another reviewer was spot on, make it angle away from you and it is much more comfortable. Sorry Apple, love your products generally, looks great next to the keyboard, but RSI is not worth being cool.

An absolutely excellent product, really didn't think it would become such a natural extension to navigating my system, but it has, there are still certain applications that demand a mouse for me (mostly for the second button and then dragging action) but for the other 95% of use it is has completely replaced my mouse and for good reason.

This morning when I powered up the mac it couldn't find the trackpad. So that answers the question of how long the batteries last. (The mac is in use about 8 hours use a day). New batteries popped in and back to working.

I couldn't cope with the push the pad to click - I found it too clumsy and hard to select text or perform drag type operations. Enabling the tap to click option made it a far more fluid experience and those issues didn't exist for me once I had done that.

My mouse was unplugged two months ago as a visiting colleague needed to borrow it. When he handed it back I didn't bother plugging it back in again. I have no use for it.

Excellent piece of kit. Still getting used to it but already a lot more stable than the mouse. Best of all - only took two days for delivery from ordering it and that was by normal post. Excellent!

I have to admit that I had my reservations about this one; well do I remember the nightmare trackballs and so on of the late eighties! It was the absolutely, mold-breakingly brilliant trackpad on my MacBook Pro that converted me. I have hated trackpads for years, always preferring a mouse, at least until I bought the MBP.

Apple's stand-alone trackpad is well named - it is magic! It has the same beautifully tactile glass and aluminium look of the MacBook Pro's trackpad, and the same ease of use and tracking accuracy. I love that it can be set to single click and right click, and the click mechanism is very clever in and of itself. It is also a very nice match for the wireless keyboard.

It is a touch pricey. Having said that, if feels all quality. I have almost replaced my mouse completely.

I've been using computers since the late 70s. Bought this mouse replacement 2 months ago. This is the best development in the interface I've seen since the introduction of GUI. No problems with the operation - buy one.

The discussion forums are rife with people who have bought these magic trackpad and get intermittent functioning - I too am one of those people - some days it will work, other days it won't - I have had to resort to going back to my trusty wired mouse and have taken the trackpad back for a refund.

    Disappointed

I got the magic trackpad a couple months ago and i was reading all the reviews about it, people kept on saying that it hurts your wrist, it doesn't work properly. Sorry but all that doesn't happen, nothing at all has gone wrong with it, works fantastic and hasn't gone wrong once ! Apple your doing brilliant keep the good work up.

Great product, was a spur of the moment purchase and not regretting it at all. So easy to install and use and a lot easier than a mouse. I agree with other people leaving comments, they should start shipping their new iMacs with this product.
    Great stuff Apple!

Terrific Trackpad better than Magic how did I manage before!

I read the reviews thought it was just a replica of the Mac track I have only had it for two days applied some customization & now the mouse is downgraded to a secondary role. I find it works using either hands equally as well, in conjunction with the mouse it makes multi-tasking easy.
It would be "nice" if one had the ability to modify the pointing aspects even increase or change the scrolling arrows (as Microsoft).
I have no doubt that there will be later variations e.g. as part of a keyboard. Also possibly different attractive colours.
I anticipate that this iwill rate as one of the best accessories to date.
