great addition to the imac, feels more natural than using a mouse. very easy to use and i was up and running with it within ten minutes like a pro. makes me wonder why we were all using a mouse in the first place

    Very fun to use

I am a packaging designer and use one at work, only had it for 2 day so, and am finding it alot nicer and easier to use than the apple mouse, for people who dont know how to change the settings look in your system prefs, then change the trackpad settings in there, covers alot, I would recommend it any day

    At last! Multitouch for desktop!

    • Written by from Mitcham

I use a macbook pro and it's always annoyed me that when I have it hooked up to my Apple Cinema Display in it's stand I can't use the multi-touch gestures that I use when it's on my lap away from me desk at home.

    Now I can! Thanks Apple!

The only puzzle was when after first setting it up with the MBP none of the gestures worked... fortunately I decided to check software update and there was an update for the trackpad. Install and reboot later and the trackpad was working perfectly.

    I like it...

    • Written by from Dunstable

Just bought one at the Apple store today. I've been a fan of Apple trackpads since I first used a Macbook and they've only got better over time. Usually I hate apple input peripherals but this one I like. It acts just like a trackpad on a Macbook and personally I find it nicer to use than a mouse for general usage. I'll have to stick with a mouse for those few occasions I fire up Steam but this is enough for the vast majority of the time. The multitouch gestures make using the Mac a lot more pleasant somehow.

    Apple never lets down!

    • Written by

I've been bought the trackpad for a christmas present. It took just a day or two to really get into the features it has. One I particularly like is instead of making a click to go to view and then rotate when viewing and rotating a picture, simply use two fingers and make rotating motion with them on the trakpad and it does it...What an outstanding piece of kit...My computer is on a shelf on my wall above my bed so this is perfect. Even siting on uneven quilt I don't have to worry that the red laser won't register properly and wildly dart over the screen resulting in wrong icon selection for example. Also if you have the matching slim keyboard, when sat on a surface they both go side by side very neatly together making it a slick functional unit. If you have an apple with bluetooth then this is a must!!!

    The way forward

    • Written by from Dewsbury

Great product, was a spur of the moment purchase and not regretting it at all. So easy to install and use and a lot easier than a mouse. I agree with other people leaving comments, they should start shipping their new iMacs with this product.
    Great stuff Apple!

    Best Thing EVER OWNED

    • Written by from Abingdon

Just got it today and it's brilliant. Won't use mouse ever again for anything except gaming. Apple should ditch their Magic Mouse and offer Trackpad as a bundle with new Mac's instead as new mouse is useless for shooters as well. Well done Apple.
PS. I just found out that You really don't have to press it at all to click a gentle tap is well enough :-D

    hypersensitive, but nice

    • Written by from Portland

I echo the comments of earlier users who say that this item needs a sensitivity control. I find my desktop constantly shrinking and expanding, and also find that I have selected an item that I didn't intend to. This thing is hypersensitive, while meanwhile the pad on my Macbook Pro is under-sensitive, so some kind of sensitivity adjustment would really be welcome. All that being said, I find that the Magic Trackpad is far less damaging to the wrist than the Magic Mouse, which was already a step ahead of all other interfaces. The amount of motion you have to do is minimal to achieve almost any command. Also it is nice to unify the interface between your laptop and your desktop if you happen to own both and migrate between them, which I do with great regularity. Overall I would say it is a big plus, which is why I have awarded four stars. If some sort of response control could be added to the mix, I would have to click that coveted fifth star. Overall, very pleased. By the way, I have to believe that the reviewers who got zero results from the Magic Trackpad failed to install the update required. Note that the update only works with the latest system, and it does not automatically appear in Software Update - - you need to specifically navigate to Apple's software updates on the Support page to find it. This is somewhat out of order with Apple's usual way of doing things; it would be nice if it could detect this new hardware piece and conjure up the correct software update. However, there is a little sticker on your brand new Trackpad that directs you to the correct URL.

    I'm a convert...this is the future

    • Written by from Saffron Walden

I think this will herald the end of the mouse for many people. I've only been using this for a few days since buying it with my new mac, and already the magic mouse is languishing unused.

A truly remarkable experience- pinches, multi-finger swipes and touches are for me a much more natural experience than holding a mouse - if you have RSI then give this a whirI.

For the future, imagine this touchpad being the same size as the current Apple Wireless Keyboard. Now imagine a smooth, laser engraved, keyboard template overlaying the touchpad- voila! a combined keyboard/touchpad which will intelligently recognize whether you are typing or swiping! You heard it here first!

Easy to keep clean and no moving parts.

The future's so bright - I just gotta wear shades!

    The mouse is dead.

    • Written by from Cambridge

I've been using the Magic Trackpad on my Mac Pro for a week now and there is no way I'm going back to a mouse. Both the Mighty Mouse and and the Magic Mouse were difficult to get used to, and once the Mighty Mouse gets clogged with dirt there is not much you can do about it.
The trackpad gives you access to a large number of useful functions at your fingertips. Having two Apple Cinema displays and limited desk space, my mouse was always bumping in stuff, so the Magic TRackpad makes perfect sense and is incredibly convenient. Mice are so 20th century...

    Oh My God!

    • Written by from Ilford

I've been brought up on PC's, ever since they first appeared in the early eighties. It was only last year when I bought my first ever Apple product - a Mac Pro. My reaction... WOW! This was the stuff of fantasies. And now I've bought the Magic Trackpad. Whoever decided to call it Magic was spot on. This is an unbelievable product. I've only been using it for a few hours and I'm hooked. I love it. God Bless Apple, I say.

    Magic Trackpad

    • Written by from Leicester

Recently bought the magic mouse, and although it is very good at what it does, the Magic Trackpad is superb with much more surface area to play with.
It is totally intuitive and very easy to use. Also the ergonomics are brilliant as it fits flush to the Apple Keyboard.
For delicate work in photography editing for example, the mouse may be a tad more precise, but for general computer use the trackpad is superb.
As usual Apple excels in producing a product that is totally functional and easy to use.
Setup was a little fiddly, but once my mac had recognised the track pad everything else was easy.

    works as intended

    • Written by from Nørresundby

The trackpad works great. I use it with why Macbook Pro when its connected to an external monitor, along with the wireless apple keyboard. Those two products cover most of my needs. I very rarely use the magic mouse, only when more precision is needed, like editing photos. I only have one complaint about the trackpad, due to the tilt of the trackpad my wrist starts to hurt after prolonged use.

    Truly Magic

    • Written by from Ledbury

The trackpad makes work so much easier, my fingers just glide over and do so much more than any mouse! Very happy, you might even say its like casting a spell when swiping, just amazing! Its also a huge surface, much bigger than the MacBook one, very easy to use, don't have to move my wrist at all.

    The Magic Trackpad Is Amazing

    • Written by from Bridlington

I have literally had my Magic Trackpad for 10 minutes, and I love it. I have a Macbook Pro so am already used to the gestures of its trackpad, so decided to purchase this for my iMac ready for OSX Lion coming out, and also my Mighty Mouse does not scroll any more.

I only wish I had purchased this before now as like the trackpad on the MBP it works effortlessly. It is so responsive, and I feel so at home using it. Even the clicking works great - one finger for normal click, two fingers for right click.

Some people complain about it not pairing etc..., however I had no problems whatsoever with OSX 10.6.8.

    Go get yourself one now!!!!

Fantastic gismo, in many ways, better than a mouse and unlike the magic mouse, when it falls off the arm of the couch, the batteries don't go flying in the opposite direction. I LIKE it

    The future of the interface

A great addition to the Apple Accessibility items on the Mac

    • Written by from PETERSFIELD

Having a neurological condition that has reduced the strength in both my hands, particularly my “mouse hand”, I find the sensitivity of the pad an absolute boon. It only needs to be caressed and tapped gently (once set up) to achieve everything I need. No longer any problems with the scroll ball on the mighty mouse getting dirty and needing to be cleaned! I would have given it five stars but for the price, which like many other people I felt to be excessive, particularly as the majority of the technology had already been established on the MacBooks.
