    Track Pad

    • Written by from Tullamore

This is a very innovative piece of technology by Apple. Makes using Pro Tools 8 and Photoshop CS4 a dream. Controlling Pro Tools is just like using a HUI or digital console to work. Very flexible, affordable and fun to use. Very comfortable too. No more cramped wrists and hands from using a mouse to work!

Been using this new purchase all week on my iMac and would never go back to my 'magic mouse'. Looking forward to trying it with OS Lion upon its eventual release (come on, Apple)

    The Magic Trackpad Is Amazing

    • Written by from Bridlington

I have literally had my Magic Trackpad for 10 minutes, and I love it. I have a Macbook Pro so am already used to the gestures of its trackpad, so decided to purchase this for my iMac ready for OSX Lion coming out, and also my Mighty Mouse does not scroll any more.

I only wish I had purchased this before now as like the trackpad on the MBP it works effortlessly. It is so responsive, and I feel so at home using it. Even the clicking works great - one finger for normal click, two fingers for right click.

Some people complain about it not pairing etc..., however I had no problems whatsoever with OSX 10.6.8.

    Go get yourself one now!!!!

    .
I am very happy with my trackpad purchase and have evolved into a competent and natural trackpad user without even thinking about it!

I purchased my iMac in November 2008 and absolutely love it, however I was never happy with the mighty mouse and had several trackball problems (if you'll pardon the expression). Eventually I pondered the Magic Mouse or the new trackpad. I was tempted towards the Magic Mouse as I had never got on with laptop trackpads finding them a bit unnatural from a more positive mouse. However after a bit of research I decided to go for it and try out the Apple trackpad.

What can I say......? Well after six months of use I have become so used to the trackpad and its ease of use that as with some other reviewers on here I never use my old mouse and he sits forlornly on standby on the shelf on rest and recuperation.

The only things that can be fiddly with the trackpad for me is "drag and drop" across the screen and sometimes I have to pause and use another finger on the trackpad to carry on moving the item. Very occasional I might do an accidental command, but don't be put off by this it becomes very rare and easily resolved. Going back to try the mouse again is heavy and actually cumbersome and all a bit uncomfortable.

I could not recommend the trackpad highly enough, I had a few doubts for the first couple of weeks as my brain adjusted to it and then quite suddenly I was using it without even thinking about it. The two finger scroll on internet page browsing is so precise and natural. I get no pains, no aches, nothing bad to say about things at all. It might be on the costly side, but the trackpad looks good, it is beautifully machined, seems very well made and it certainly gives computer use pleasure for me. Genuinely a worthy purchase.

Magic Trackpad best Apple accessory ever

    • Written by from DAVENTRY

Got this as a present for my 62nd birthday and wow its so easy to use with my Imac & 2011 macbook pro, no problems encountered setting up or using once a few basic tweaks made in settings, it makes life so easy when it comes to sorting through my 30,000 + photos, I now use it instead of my Magic mouse most of the time and I really cant wait for OSX Lion to come out which will compliment it even further.
Another great product from apple that I am proud to own.

Very quick to get the hang of it, and to get the setting to fit the way I work, now unplugged my magic mouse and loving the freedom and responsiveness of the Trackpad. Will recommend it to friends.

    Most excellent

    • Written by from Copenhagen N

After using it for only a few hours. I just turned off my magic mouse. Very smooth and is definitely an asset to my Imac.
I didnt think there were a device that could improve on the user interface. But the trackpad certainly did.
It's money well spend for me. And I am thinking that with the new upgrade to OSX Lion, the trackpad will become a power house in itself.

    I highly recommend it.

This is an amazing product! Have recently bought it and am very very impressed. It is comfortable to use. Some of the install glitches in the other reviews have been sorted and is as simple as every apple product! It looks great and is a brilliant product especially with the new multi-touch features that are coming out with Lion.

    Love it!

I love the magic trackpad. It does everything I hoped it would. It's great being able to change which app I'm in with the swipe of a finger (or 4). Reading PDFs, paging back or forward in Safari, zooming in on photos is all so much easier than doing it with a mouse. The only downside is the rotation gesture which is a little tricky to get the hang of. Installation was a breeze - turn the trackpad on, open the trackpad menu in preferences and follow what it says on screen. An awesome piece of kit that will only get better when OS X Lion launches.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Wigan

Like other reviewers have stated, the trackpad is TOO sensitive. The slightest judder of your finger opens applications/subjects you didn't intend to. Very frustrating. It definitely needs a sensitivity control of some kind. Also, the angle is very uncomfortable. I have raised the bottom to make it level and it is much better. Having said this, I much prefer my magic mouse.

    Magic Trackpad Review

    • Written by from Dumbarton

I love this! I find it very easy to use on a basic level with some clever multi touch controls. very reliable too, unlike some reviewers I have had no problems. I did get frustrated trying to control Angry Birds as it didn't work as I imagined- But after I spent some time learning the gestures and game controls it's does work really well with this game and is fun to use.
I am more than happy with the trackpad and would recommend it to anyone. Battery life is pretty good and I love the large surface area of the touchpad.

    Actions too Erratic

    • Written by from Douglas

Have had this for 5-Months. Periodically try it, but always give up. It is either oversensitive or completely unresponsive. For instance, I have never managed to get it to drag anything; yet the very faintest touch will often have it jumping into a usually unwanted and unexpected action on the desktop before you can even position the cursor. The 2-Finger scroll and the 1-Finger tap are the only actions I have ever managed to get a, sort of, consistent action out of. It is very difficult to place the cursor where it is wanted. A couple of the other actions, listed in the Preferences, do work, but are largely uncontrollable. Others, like the vital Drag Option, just do not work. Am using it with up-to-date Snow Leopard.
A disappointing product, - but maybe it is me - others seem to live with it.

    great product when it works

    • Written by from Slough

I recently bought this to replace my magic mouse (which i never had problems with) and its a fantastic product except for one thing, the erratic behaviour. now its not 100% of the time but at least a few times a day. The discussion boards are filled with people having problems with this device. dont get me wrong, when it does work, its great, but then it flakes.

I think for the cost premium of Apples products, they need to pay a bit more attention to bluetooth implementation and customer needs in general and not soo much focus on the shiny toys. this ones going back for sure.

    Best £60 I've ever spent - possibly

    • Written by from Maidstone

Like many other MAC users, my Mighty Mouse ran in to problems when the roller-ball got too dirty to work properly. It got worse for the mouse when I decided to take it apart to clean it. I now have a clean mouse that no longer works.
So, as I needed a new input device, I decided to take a chance and buy the Trackpad. I'd been looking at it for a while on-line but I needed to try it out in the 'flesh' to see if it was as good as I hoped. My local Apple store had one on display, so after trying it out I took the plunge.
I've been using it for about a week and I haven't needed to touch my mouse since I bought it and paired it up to my iMac. It's not only easier to use than a mouse, it's infinitely more pleasant. As the iMac has a large screen I have to move my mouse around to cover the entire screen, the biggest problem I had was moving something to the recycle bin in one movement or when dragging things around in iMovie. The Trackpad overcomes this problem as you can scroll across the screen much more simply.
I've configured the main features I used with the Mighty Mouse but there are numerous other actions I now invoke with gestures on the Trackpad that before would have needed the keyboard. So not only do I not need a mouse, I use the keyboard less too. If there was some way of getting an on-screen keyboard to pop up using the Trackpad I could save even more desk space!
I'm now looking for an equivalent for a Windows PC, no luck so far.

    NOT SO MAGIC

    • Written by from LOUGHBOROUGH

Having read some of the positive reviews I thought that this would be an ingenious alternative to the mouse, however this wasn't to be the case. General performance and use is obviously similar to the track pad on a Mac laptop so in many ways the track pad is intuitive. BUT the problem I found was a distinct cramping in my wrist from the prolonged hovering over the angled board - in my humble opinion, ergonomically, its flawed. Operationally it's ability to pick up and drop items was clumsy and completely inefficient, as compared to my old wireless Mac mouse. Having gave it a good go the mouse is back and I'm much happier.

    Magic

    • Written by from Cambridge

Wasn't convinced, testing it in the Apple Store, but took a plunge and really pleased that I did. The Magic Mouse is hopelessly uncomfortable for larger hands and it was only a matter of time before the scroll-ball on the older Mighty Mouse packed-up !

Having had to rely more on my Macbook Pro than my iMac over the last year, working with mice seems unnatural now ...absolutely recommend this ...it's fast and feels less of a strain under continuous use. Get this, and get the wireless keyboard too — you deserve it !!

Fantastic gismo, in many ways, better than a mouse and unlike the magic mouse, when it falls off the arm of the couch, the batteries don't go flying in the opposite direction. I LIKE it
