A superb design ... just not the greatest ever!

    • Written by from Farnborough

This wireless mouse is absolutely superb. The only downside is the changing of the batteries. I know that Scandinavian design thinking produces beautiful results. However, we need to consider the practicalities of use. As ever, quality is excellent ... still some to do!

    nice to use...if it works

    • Written by from London

Just had my third magic mouse in a row fail on me. Always the same - starts disconnecting frequently until eventually won't connect at all, then won't even stay on. I think there must be a weak electrical connection inside as it seems to be a power issue (and yes, I've tried changing the batteries). Next time I'll get a wired mouse.

    nice functionality, horrible mouse

    • Written by from Norwich

This mouse has some nice features - the gesture support works well (except for the two finger side scrolling which I can't make my hand do!) and the thoughtfulness of it working for left and right hand users. It performs well, and I have no issues with the responsiveness.

However, it a terrible mouse to use for any time because it's so uncomfortable. It's too narrow to grip comfortably with my fingers, and it's too low to grip with my palm. If you have small hands this might be a great mouse for you.

I wish Apple would realise that people have different size hands and make these in a range of sizes.

    Comfortably ambidextrous

    • Written by from Purley

Been using mine since 2009 with iMac. As a left hander I find it perfectly comfortable.

Have been using various mice since late 90s and this is one of the best.

As for battery life, get NiMH 2000+ mAH rechargeables. I don't switch my mouse off and it's at least a couple of weeks between charges for general surfing and these batteries are now old.

For the price should be better than this

    • Written by from HILTON

Connected, disconnected. Jerky, unresponsive, disconnected, connected, disconnected, disconnected, ...

When paying 60 quid for a mouse you'd expect to get something that actually works reliably. The battery compartment is badly designed and the batteries seem loose all the time. The bottom battery cover also falls off every time I smash the thing against the desk in frustration.

    Not worth the cash...

    • Written by from NORTHAMPTON

The Magic Mouse is a great product in novelty terms, but the robustness and longevity of use is poor. I have had my mouse for several years and regularly had issues with bluetooth disconnect. Finally I got so frustrated with the disconnect every 20 seconds, followed by a period of 2 secs of no connection, then a reconnect that I have completely stopped using the product. Apple support advised that once the one year warranty was up there was nothing they could do that wouldn't come at a cost... I expect a mouse to last for several years when it comes with a £59 price tag... I would be better off with a £5 USB.

Get the mouse, used it for 2 minutes. Put it back in the ox and returned it to Apple the same day. Its sticky to use when trying the gestures and doesn't fit in the hand properly. Its really awkward to use. The trackpad is so much better.

    completely useless

    • Written by from Telford

Its heavy, BIG and cumbersome. It does not like any surface and lets you feel all the bumps on whatever surface you run it over. Its loud as it scrapes across most surfaces, unless you use a mouse mat in which case the mouse is so heavy it just moves the mouse mat underneath. And the worst feature is that you just cant move the cursor with any accuracy. You need to set the mouse speed to max which is still to slow and if you try to make small movements quickly it tracks extremely slow. When you start your mac or open from sleep it takes forever to find the mouse before it connects. Oh and the price is stupid.

    I returned this mouse

    • Written by from Belfast

This mouse looks very pretty, but 1) it's too flat so makes my hand ache 2) it's not as precise as a generic mouse so one spends much time trying to get the pointer exactly above say a small button, 3) owing to the touch feature, all kinds of unexpected events take place once you move your fingers by just a wee bit while moving the mouse around (on linux/KDE), and 4) given its high price I would not have expected points 1-3 to happen.

Rather infuriating - too clever for itself

    • Written by from Ampthill

I have had this for some years and increasingly dislike it. It cannot be customised to stop jumping between windows, and it does it incontinently. Touch the wretched the thing and I find myself staring at something I don't want to be working on. Really poor for things like photo editing which require a lot of mouse use - it's a complete waste of time when it jumps to a new screen. I have a magic trackpad which I use mostly to get back to the window I want to be on.

After having used the mouse for an year I can easily say that it's awesome!!
At the beginning I was skeptical and really used to the trackpad that I loved, but now I cannot work without it!!!

Great functionality - if it didn't keep disconnecting

    • Written by from London

I love this mouse but they have to fix the battery compartment - every little knock or pick up of the mouse disconnects it and then I have to wait to reconnect again - it makes working with it over longer periods really frustrating!

Not what I was expecting.. But surprisingly awesome.

I've had this mouse a few days now and needless to say it performs wonderfully. As always with Apple it looks great and even 'works on my Levis'.

Having said this I think its design lets it down somewhat. Apart from the lovely float and appropriate weight it felt as if there was something missing, it suddenly hit me, it's a bit too shallow for my liking. Yet I also think this is a conscious design choice they way I'm holding the mouse is much less stressful, instead of completely gripping a conventional mouse its sort of 'floats' between my thumb and ring and little finger. This essentially puts your hand in a naturally relaxed state where again it 'floats' within your hand rather than you naturally gripping onto it.

All in all its a great design, more than adequate feel, and the gesture support is quite simply very useful. Finally not only does it 'work on my Levis' is fits in the skinny pocket too so its great for blocking out cursor movement during a presentation and just clicking my pocket for the next animation/slide.

battery life is major let down

    • Written by from london

Requires replacement batteries all the time, not the most comfortable to use for long periods either.... but has good functionality within the MAC OS... not best for boot camp systems or CAD use as well.

Fantastic mouse. It can be set up as complicated or as simple as you wish. I do not understand the poor reviews on here. My only thought; you must have bought a dud or a copy.
I was a little unsure considering the price but its well worth it. Buy it.

    Great Mouse

    • Written by from Birmingham

This mouse is a difficult mouse to get used to. It took me about 2 days to grasp its full potential as it was so different to what I was used to using. But alas, once I finally mastered it, I have not used another mouse since. Its battery life is fantastic and frankly, it is one of the best mouses I have ever used. As I said. It is a difficult mouse to master but trust me, just be patient. It is well worth it and you won't be disappointed!

    Good buy

    • Written by from Ystradgynlais

Bought one along with an Apple wireless keyboard for use with my Mac Mini. Mouse is sleek and good looking and easy to use. You can customise the functions, I just have right and left click and scroll, but other options are available in settings. Personally I find that things are lot smoother than they were with my generic USB mouse.

    Give it time!

    • Written by from Louth

Be patient with getting to know how the mouse works, it will soon become the best mouse you've ever used! Flawless design that lets you do more than enough using simple gestures. Battery life did become a bit of a pain but i soon fixed that by using a magic charger or Apple rechargeable batteries.

Remember its like buying your first Mac again, at first you don't know how anything worked, but it soon became the best decision of your life!

    Perfect mouse for left handers

    • Written by from Ealing

Actually I'm ambidextrous and like to share the use between left and right hand to avoid arm strain. I found this Mouse a little strange at first but quickly got used to it. This Mouse is perfect because I don't have to make any adjustments other than to move the mouse from the left to right hand side. No complaints at all.
