Nice Mouse but could be better

    • Written by from Bristol

Now that I've had my Magic Mouse for abut a year I can say that it is the best Apple designed mouse I've owned so far. Gone now is the problem with that non functioning scroll ball plus I can ow also use free software to add more functions.

However I would like to own a cabled version of this mouse if they ever get around to making one.

When I first owned my Magic Mouse I had trouble with the batteries becoming loose. I got around this myself by putting a tiny amount of 'Blue Tack' on each side of the battery compartment lid over each battery. Loose battery problem solved.

The second reason I would like to see a cabled version is the batteries themselves. They don't last more than a few weeks; maybe three at most. I try to recharge these batteries (with my special recharging unit that can recharge Alkaline batteries up to ten occassions with decreasing effectiveness) but even on the first recharge the batteries only go on for a further 40 hours or so.

What's worse is that with Ni-Cad and NImH rechargable batteries my Magic Mouse simply doesn't work at all. Not a flicker of life from it.

I'm sure a cabled version of this mouse would work out cheaper to run environmentally as well as financially. So its four stars rather than five from me.

Ergonomics not a problem, fine little mousy ;)

    • Written by from Wrexham

I quickly picked up using something flat- great when you use laptop track pads constantly- may take time getting used to if you use a mouse on a desktop. BUT the runners are the pain. I cant use in without a mouse mat- even the mouse mat sounds like it is scratching the bottom! Overall it looks really smart and I cant wait to show it off :)

    This mouse is so cool

    • Written by from SHIPLEY

This is how a computer mouse should be in reality. It epitomises the very best in Apple design and technology. Set up could not be easier - successful connectivity right from the start. The mouse has a re-assuring weight, feels like a really quality product and the ergonomic shape makes it a dream to use with the freedom of location and movement on surfaces. The touch controls are seamless in operation and very responsive.

OK it costs more than the standard mouse but if you have to replace the traditional mouse this is a "must have" choice.

    Battery lid

    • Written by from STRATFORD-UPON-AVON

I have found this mouse a pleasure to use, functionally it is the best mouse I have ever owned. There has been only one irritating issue, the plate which covers the batteries, after three battery changes will not stay in place. Not the end of the world as selotape works well. Not what I expected from apple, the finish of whose equipment I have found first class during the past fifteen years. In all other respects a perfect joy to use.

    lovely mouse

I only bought this mouse today but so far I am loving it. It is a bit of an odd shape but I find it comfortable to use and it glides seamlessly. It's like a conventional mouse with some really happy extras :-))))

When people complain about the size...

    • Written by from BRIGHTON

I noticed a lot of people complaining about the size and how flat the mouse is. To be honest with you, I was bugged about it at first, but like another review, this problem took less than 30min to get used to and i realised it's A GOOD THING.

Not only does it look absolutely gorgeous on your desk (and you dont have to hide it when it's not in use), you dont actually stick your hand to it too much so less sweating, and less grease gets stuck on the mouse.and you feel less gross and aching at the end of the day.

the one let down was how easily scratched the surface was, seeing my shiny new toy get scratched was such a pain (should've gotten the moshi protector for it). but (maybe it's because i have small hands, but everyone in my family managed to use it with no problems), i thought the size was perfect! maybe more features could be added in the future, like better tracking technology. but PLEASE dont change the size, it looks BEAUTIFUL and seriously i think the complaints are WAY exaggerated (maybe because of the price of the product)

How can Apple get a simple mouse So Wrong!

    • Written by from Broadstairs

I am not alone in thinking that this mouse is the worst bit of kit Apple have ever released. I have tried different textured mat, reflective mats, graph paper - just about everything to try and coax this evil rodent into action, but it simply stutters and jerks across the screen with a mind of it's own. It is a joke and would strongly urge anyone contemplating the purchase of one of these to save your money or look elsewhere.
    Doesn't deserve one star

    Very close to Awesome...

    • Written by from Desborough

First of all - buy this mouse, it's awesome, it really is. It takes about 30 minutes to get used to, but once you do, it's well worth it. I bought the MacBook Pro and to be fair, you don't actually need the mouse, but I find it really nice to flick between the two.

The reason I gave 4 out of 5 stars is because the mouse doesn't track fast enough - even on the highest setting - I have got used to it now (sort of) and when I am moving around quickly, I tend to use the Track Pad, not the mouse - which is a shame.

Apple, please please resolve this v. small issue and you would have another perfect product!

    Stylish and yet....

    • Written by from IVER

Great looking piece of kit, but use it in anger and you get variable results. Not very accurate for FCP, poor range, lumpy performance and lagging response. I've resorted to Mighty, can't get on with this one after three months of persistence.
Works well as a door wedge

Style over substance: The worst mouse I've ever used

    • Written by from CAMBRIDGE

The magic mouse is somewhat uncomfortable to use for long periods. It's too thin and flat to support the hand so you have to hold your hand like a claw to use it.

It gets worse when you try to use the right button, the click detection is so poor that you have to spend time clicking different parts of the mouse until you finally get the right click.

It doesn't matter how cool it looks, what's the point of a mouse without buttons that work accurately. Bring back the wireless mighty mouse.

    Solid Quality

    • Written by from Surbiton

When I was in the Apple store buying this, I kept asking myself "why am I spending £56 on a mouse?", I thought I was crazy.
I've had the mouse a couple of days now and it's been in constant use; it is comfortable to hold, has a solid high quality feel to it without being heavy and cumbersome. The swipe features are almost intuitive and it is so nice not to clutter up the desk with cables.
Expensive yes it is, but buy it anyway, you wont be disappointed.

Brilliant looks. Great for browsing web. But for me it's to small, so I get wrist pain. And if you use indesign the mouse scrolls all over the place and it is very unprecise. So for me it is useless.

    Tracking Speed

    • Written by from Radstock

I've had the mouse for a year now and find that it suits my purposes admirably. I only use scroll and swipe, the other options I find a little complicated to use. Tracking speed was poor until I downloaded magic prefs, used their settings and now the speed is excellent. Another point in it's favour is the way my wife can use it, it still functions perfectly when she is sitting at 100 degs off to the computer. (She has sight issues). Everything considered, I am pleased with the mouse, but now of course, along comes the trackpad!

    A great product!

    • Written by from Galway

before this i thought that this mouse is not ergonomic. u might feel so at first. but after using it for a few hours, i think that this mouse i great. is makes my job easier. u can drag easily. the key is not to use the mouse at the edge of the table (move further away to your front). by doing so, u wouldnt hurt your wrist. however, it is not suitable for gaming. I LOVE IT!
