    Magic Mouse, pleased as punch.

    • Written by from plymouth

I got my magic mouse today as an upgrade to the frustrating old track ball mouse.
    - which stopped scrolling up and down, beyond all cleaning suggestions.

I too was worried about loosing the 'squeeze' for using expose. but you can program the right mouse button to to this, as well as having keyboard presets.

I love the ability to navigate pages in a circular motion, and since i am now used to a touch screen smart phone find the touch scrolling very easy.

I stuck with my original hard-wired keyboard so now have an extra USB port.

I have noticed too that you can buy a charging dock for them, which i think will be a worth while gadget once the factory batteries go.

I know its only a mouse but if you use design software like i do, it makes a huge difference to be able to scroll properly!

    Inspired Product

    • Written by from Ormskirk

When I received this product with my iMac I had no idea what to expect with its sensitivity and workings. It was slightly weird at first and took a bit of getting used to but now there isn't a mouse product I'd rather use. I use the Mighty Mouse at university in the edit suites and it feels a lot more clunky and to the people that say the magic mouse isn't ergonomic, I think they missed the point on how to hold it. When I use it, my thumb, little finger and 3rd finger hold the sides and the ends of my index and middle fingers rest where the buttons would be whilst my palm floats. A lovely and very comfortable product that makes everything easy. It just conveniently works and all the functions make sense.

    Expose and other functions

    • Written by from GRÆSTED

i read i bit of previous reviews, and found that people are missing the expose, spaces and so on functionalities .. and they are saying that the touch pad is not gonna be programmable.. but funny thing, when i got the mouse, first thing i did was to google "Magic Mouse software" and through that i found a freeware program called "MagicPrefs" and i was able to program both, expose and Dashboard shortcuts into my magic mouse, very simple. And it works beautifull, without a doubt in mind, it runs perfect! no more worries about that please..

Responsive, accurate, nice feel and good battery life with the right cells

    • Written by from Stockport

I really like the Magic Mouse - it’s perfectly responsive, tracks very accurately, feels nice in the hand and battery life can be very, very good. The surface gestures are useful and I don’t miss the side buttons, although it could be a little bigger.

Use lithium AA cells which last a long time in this mouse. I’m seeing weeks of heavy use and still showing 100%.

You can use rechargeable batteries but the level %age will not give an accurate reading. It starts at about 60% when fully charged then falls off to about 40% before expiring. This is not a fault in the Magic Mouse or batteries, it’s just the voltage characteristics of rechargeables which start at 1.2v, hold voltage then fade quickly - this makes the level difficult to measure. Non-rechargeables on the other hand start at 1.5v and fade slowly down to about 1v so battery level can be measured more accurately. Apple should explain this more clearly so people don’t think there’s a problem where there is actually no problem.

Use lithium cells and you might actually forget this is a battery powered mouse...

I've needed a new mouse for ages, and if price isn't an issue, then buy this mouse. It's the best you'll find anywhere, unless bluetooth is an issue. Don't be afraid of the price.

    This mouse is so cool

    • Written by from SHIPLEY

This is how a computer mouse should be in reality. It epitomises the very best in Apple design and technology. Set up could not be easier - successful connectivity right from the start. The mouse has a re-assuring weight, feels like a really quality product and the ergonomic shape makes it a dream to use with the freedom of location and movement on surfaces. The touch controls are seamless in operation and very responsive.

OK it costs more than the standard mouse but if you have to replace the traditional mouse this is a "must have" choice.

I only bought this mouse today but so far I am loving it. It is a bit of an odd shape but I find it comfortable to use and it glides seamlessly. It's like a conventional mouse with some really happy extras :-))))

    Solid Quality

    • Written by from Surbiton

When I was in the Apple store buying this, I kept asking myself "why am I spending £56 on a mouse?", I thought I was crazy.
I've had the mouse a couple of days now and it's been in constant use; it is comfortable to hold, has a solid high quality feel to it without being heavy and cumbersome. The swipe features are almost intuitive and it is so nice not to clutter up the desk with cables.
Expensive yes it is, but buy it anyway, you wont be disappointed.

    Tracking Speed

    • Written by from Radstock

I've had the mouse for a year now and find that it suits my purposes admirably. I only use scroll and swipe, the other options I find a little complicated to use. Tracking speed was poor until I downloaded magic prefs, used their settings and now the speed is excellent. Another point in it's favour is the way my wife can use it, it still functions perfectly when she is sitting at 100 degs off to the computer. (She has sight issues). Everything considered, I am pleased with the mouse, but now of course, along comes the trackpad!

    A great product!

before this i thought that this mouse is not ergonomic. u might feel so at first. but after using it for a few hours, i think that this mouse i great. is makes my job easier. u can drag easily. the key is not to use the mouse at the edge of the table (move further away to your front). by doing so, u wouldnt hurt your wrist. however, it is not suitable for gaming. I LOVE IT!

    Great mouse!

    • Written by from hythe

The Magic Mouse is amazing - lovely tactile click and intuitive scrolling and swiping gestures. To right click you need to initially lift your left index finger and then right click due to it's one button design, it will think you still want to left click. I know some people right click without lifting their index finger so I wanted to make it aware. Using the mouse takes 5 minutes to get use to, especially it's tracking algorithm where if you move the Magic Mouse slow the cursor on screen moves slow and if you move it faster it moves faster, etc - for me the Magic Mouse works best on the maximum speed setting.

It's probably been said before, superb.

What a great piece of kit? I can't fault it even after using trackerballs, tablets and multi-scroller 30 function devices (ok, slight exaggeration !).

It doesn't quite do what I do on my Pro trackpad but the Magic M is far more precise, even on the most sensitive settings. Love it.

Almost 60 quid is a lot of money, but, without a doubt, for me, this is probably the best human interface I've used out of a box.

    near perfect

Had this a month. Still getting used to the low profile but it really is great. The swife function is brilliant - saves so much mouse movement. What about an 'enter/return' function on the upgrade to do away with more mouse moves or having to take your hand from the mouse to the keyboard? No expose - big deal. Cant stand it anyway.

    Fantastic Mouse

    • Written by from Newnham

To make full use of the magic mouse, you have to download 3rd party app "Magic Prefs". Once you can make use of all the gestures, taps and swipes, this mouse becomes the most natural way of interacting with OS X.

I use this mouse with logic pro 9, as well as all the usual suspects, and I find it accurate, the scrolling is extremely useful and long hours at the computer seem comfortable on the wrists.

As for the Battery life... I've been using the mouse for a week now, and it's still on 100%... would have to use it for longer to be sure of the overall battery life.

The only negative I can think of is the price, there are so many cheaper mice on the market, £50+ seems a lot, but it is the best mouse I've ever used.

    Top marks!!

    Outstanding

My old mouse with the track ball on the top clogged and lost some of the tracking facility. I decided to invest in the new magic mouse despite some of the less favourable reviews. I did try it before parting with any cash at my local Apple store took to it straight away. I've now been using it for two days with Photoshop, Illustrator and QuarkXpress and its performance is faultless. It's another superbly designed and manufactured item from Apple. Get one.

    Yes you will.
I've got the old version of this mouse, with its scrolling little button/nipple. It's great, couldn't fault it. I've got it still working on my Tower behind me and it does a fantastic job.
I've had the "Magic" version almost six months now, and it's superb. It's very accurate, more accurate than the old version in my opinion and your actions are easier to translate between it and a trackpad on a laptop, if like me that is what you are using it in conjunction with. (MBP10.6 - CS5 & FCP)
I use both mice daily, both run through batteries quickly. But you can get a month out of a good set of AA's, if not longer.
