Rarely do I bother to write a review, but I bought this after seeing the negative comments (really needed it), but it worked excellently when I used it. In case I did something different, the VGA output was converted using a splitter into a Composite output which was sent to the projectors (not samsung so I don't know whether this would work). On the whole pretty good.

The kit works but only the third conversation with Apple Tech guys sorted my MacBook Pro 13" (late 2011 model) software. I had to turn the machine off, hold down three keys for a minute, reboot while holding down four other keys and finally the computer sent a signal that the monitor recognised. If System Preferences - Display does not offer you Appearance, you will have to get on the phone; good job it's a freephone number from a landline.

I find it quite inconsistent in its performance. Sometimes it works perfectly and other time the moment I connect it my macbook pro gets hanged showing the beachball.

Just thought I'd say in response to other reviewers using Samsung TVs that this adapter works fine. Just make sure you are on mirror settings which is under System Preferences - Display - Arrangement, and you should be fine!

Blurb implies it will connect any Mac with a Mini Display Port to VGA. I still use 3yr old MacBook and it works fine into VGA plug on my Sony & Panasonic TV. But my brand new expensive MacBook Pro just says "no signal". I am not inclined to experiment with other expensive adaptors which may or may not work, Apple I am not happy with the quality of your information.

I deliver training programmes round the world in all sorts of venues. Projectors provided by hotels, conference centres or client meeting rooms always have a VGA connection (never a Mac port) and, in the last four years, my MacBook has always connected without problems using this adaptor. It does what it says - at £21 you might argue it's expensive for a bit of cable with a connector, but if you're being paid to present stuff on the screen it's not exactly expensive

First time I tried it no problem - wiring my MacBook Air up to a Dell MP3400 so I thought great - silly me! Next time same set up but although the Mac changed screen resolution the projector did nothing! MAJOR PAIN! Like I had people over and it just would not work! Finally I found the only work-around - and so far this does work every time. You have to turn your Mac completely off. Make sure the projector is ON - plug the projector into your Mac and then turn your Mac on. In that order and only in that order - and then when your Mac comes on about 10 seconds later the projector will pick up the signal and you're in business. Not that impressed though! You would think Apple would have gotten this sorted.

I was a little worried about buying this after reading the reviews, but figured that having worked as an AV technician, I'd be able to make it work, even if it wasn't as simple as the Mini-DVI on my old PowerBook G4.

It arrived today. I plugged it into my Samsung TV to test it. It worked- I plugged it in, it worked. I checked mirroring the display still worked fine. It did. (I usually use a split screen, but the mirror is useful at times).

I can only conclude that the most common problem with this bit of kit is "user error". It sits much more securely in the socket than the mini-DVI did, which frequently fell out, and works without an issue. I look forward to using my Mac at work for my presentations, as I've been stuck with their old Windows PC for months.

Only downer is the price- but since it stops the problem of dead/damaged VGA ports common on Windows PCs, I can't complain too much. I'd sooner pay £21 to replace the adapter than £££ to replace the port.

I wanted this so that I can mirror what's on my MacBook (late 2009 model) onto a Panasonic plasma screen (non HD & 8 years old). The item arrived very quickly through the post and has worked perfectly. I can see mirrored exactly what is on the Mac screen onto the TV screen.

View photographs from your MacBook.

The sound will come from your MacBook, however you can easily attach a speaker to your MacBook via it's 3.5mm jack output.

You can also have different things displaying at the same time on the two screens (Mac & TV) being controlled from the Mac. Sounds a little confusing at first, becomes clear when you play about with it a little. You may need to adjust the resolution in your Mac's preferences to get the desired size you want on your TV screen.

I found looking at YouTube videos very useful in helping with the setup.
