Working well with a 3rd party monitor (Hazro HZ27WC)

    • Written by from Sheffield

I initially had issues with the well known interference (intermittent colour distortion and artefacts etc) which was pretty unusable.
I was using a cheap DVI dual link cable that I had bought 6 years ago. So I bought a startech branded DVI dual link cable (£8) and now I have no issues at all, working perfectly. My monitor is a Hazro HZ27WC, with a late 2013 Macbook Pro 15".

By the way, the same old cable I had works fine when connected to my PC with the same monitor, but doesn't work with the Apple adapter. My guess is that Apple's adapter has different and stricter time constraints on the digital signals perhaps and therefore requires a decent quality cable.

So my advice is, don't listen to the people complaining about the adapter. Just try is with a decent quality DVI cable for yourself. When I say decent quality DVI cable, I don't mean spending £50 on one, you should be able to get one for under £15 online.

    Works great

Have this plugged into my Late 2011 Macbook Pro, Hazro HZ27WD 27" 2560x1440 monitor and a powered USB hub. Works flawlessly so far and I didn't have to configure anything. Shame these kind of adapters are so expensive :(

Works fine on Dell 3007 and latest MBA

    • Written by from READING

I've had very few problems with this running my Dell 3007 monitor. I also run 2 other screens via display link (so 3 external including this one).

A lot of people complain about the cost of these, but if you look at the market place and other manufacturers prices, the apple cost of one of these is actually OK. As the signal conversion between dual link DVI-D and mini DP is not straightforward, there is a chip inside these that has to convert the image, and if running at 2560*1600 at 60Hz, that is 245,760,000 pixels per second it has to do - hence the power requirement of USB and the cost.

The adapter works - check the cable

    • Written by from London

Bough the adapter and tested two cables that LOOKED like dual-link DVI - didn't work for DELL3007WFPHC. Thought I would return it.
When putting the cables back, noted another one labelled Dual-Link DVI. Tested, works perfect.

Works perfectly with Mini / Air + Dell WFP3007

    • Written by from Plymouth

I was reluctant to buy this given some of the reviews, but I've been using for a while to connect my late 2010 Mac Mini to an old Dell WFP3007. No fuzziness or noise at all, and it's nice to finally have my old monitor back. ;) Also tested with my MacBook Air and it's just as faultless.

    Amazing

I have a 17'' Macbook pro and a 30'' Apple Cinema Display, and I plugged the cable into both things and it worked immidietly. No problems what so ever and the resolution is great! Bravo!

    NEC 3090WQXi works

    • Written by from Perth

Took the plunge to see if it would work with my new monitor and therefore if I needed a new graphics card in order to run two of them (as it connects with a dual link dvi). I'm relieved to report that it works perfectly. Still it's less than ideal that it seems to be a lottery if your monitor will work with this adapter. I have listed my spec below, hope this helps someone.

    Mac Pro (MacPro4,1 / 2009) - Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2 x 2.93 GHz
    ATI Radeon HD 4870 - 512MB
    NEC 3090WQXi Monitor

    Works Great!

    • Written by from SHREWSBURY

Bought one of these to use with my 30-inch Apple Cinema Display and new MBP. Like another user, I had an issue with odd green lines dancing across the screen intermittently, especially on black backgrounds. Got on the blower to Apple and a replacement arrived 2 days later. Issue solved. One happy bunny!

    Works fine after all

    • Written by from THATCHAM

I was worried after reading the reviews and searching the Internet that this adapter was not going to work. I bought a 17" MacBook Pro (built mid-May 2009) with the intention of using it with a two year old Dell 3006WFP, so it would have been a big problem if the adapter didn't work.

However, it seems that I need not have worried. I have no issues at all to report and it has worked flawlessly so far, so perhaps the initial teething troubles that have affected other people have been fixed..

Works just as described, and through an IoGear GCS1204 KVM which was a concern having seen the review about Dell problems.

This adaptor is for use with the Apple 30 inch display. It says so in the advertising and the literature. It does this perfectly. Therefore 5 stars...
