I bought this to connect my Mac Mini to an eternal LG 27inch IPS monitor.

It caused no end of flickering and screen blackouts and fuzzy grey screens.

My solution was to make sure the DVI plug was screwed SUPER TIGHT into the adaptor and I mean super tight...tighter than I've ever screwed a DVI plug into any socket ever before....

This solved all my problems.

Doesn't fit, same as everyone else is saying. 2 trips to apple store, 1st time none in stock, 2nd time an overpriced useless adaptor.

If anyone looks at the enlarged photos of this item they will see it has a horizontal pin C5 and a full set of pins 1-24. This means it is DVI-D, not DVI-I which has pins C1-C4 as well or DVI-A with C1-C4 and many other pins missing.
If you do not check the connection before buying then that is not really Apple's fault. This is a very nicely made adapter and does the job well. The connection should be tight as there are some very dodgy DVI-D cables out there with poor screws on them.
If you don't know what you have, then stick to VGA maybe.

It's DVI-D, which means it does not support ANY commonly used DVI-cables of the analog type.
Wow, so much money spent for a useless connector.

Great apple fan up to now (iMac 27, Macbook Air, iPhone) but that really *s*u*c*k*s*! Congrats, bad work Apple! :-(

This is only DVI-D not DVI-I so does not include the analogue output. This should be clearly stated, as DVI in general includes analogue. Worse, I brought this along with a MacBook Pro which explicitly states that it works with all DVI devices, which is wrong.

Obviously, the quality of image you're going to get depends on the graphics capability of your Mac.

I tried one of these on my 13" MacBook, connected to a DELL 27" monitor.
In the end, even after playing around with various resolution settings for the external monitor, I preferred the super sharp display on my Mac. (I'm using my Mac mostly for text based stuff, so maybe for watching movies it's different.)

Also, might be worth pointing out that while the HDMI end will only fit one way, the miniport end (the bit that actually goes into your Mac) CAN be inserted upside down. I know, 'cos I did it that way (never connected one of these before) and spent a little while wondering why the heck it didn't work. DOH!

I bought this adapter to connect my new 20" HP monitor for extra screen space. Connected it up, plugged it in and everything worked perfectly, no drivers no nothing.
However I will say this-
Be CERTAIN before you buy this, make sure that what you are looking for is exactly what this adapter does. I personally made sure that my monitor was DVI-D and not DVI-A and I made sure that this adapter was suited to DVI-D and the size of my monitor. The reviews here are very helpful in making an informed decision.
I personally picked it up in store and consulted with the staff to further clarify the devices capabilities.

Overall not a bad product, just a very specific one. Look up past experiences with your monitor model and size and mac before you take the plunge. Four stars, -1 star however for the unreasonable price. Minidisplay seems to be just an annoyance and this is the kind of accessory that should be included in the price of a mac.

I connect this between my MacBook Pro and a dvi to dvi lead which connects to my 20'' widescreen Samsung HDTV. No problems at all!

It seems that if you use this to connect to the iMax cinema screen it won't work, but then it doesn't connect to my dishwasher either...

ok, don't dispair. check and check again the pin arrangement and cables you already have. Take a photo, draw a picture. If you have already bought, you might as well hang on to it. You will need it eventually. It has worked fine with my MacBook Pro a Sanyo XP55L projector and a plain vanilla HP 1740 LCD. Will it work with my old Apple 30' displays? Well no, that's another story. Come on Apple I want a 30" LED screen that will work with my G5s. I want it now.

Works perfectly with my Macbook Aluminum and Apple 20" Cinema Screen, excellent picture quality and no problems with connection or waking from sleep mode.
