Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive
Very Cool, but...

this is very cool and if you have a macbook air you have to buy one of these because they are as light as macbook air, portable, good looking and look even cooler next to your macbook air.
But the macbook air has only got one USB 2.0 so they could make this a bit bigger and put like 3 USB 2.0 ports because you connect this drive and you havent got any USB ports left... but never mind, as long as it works properly10 of 10 people found this useful

Looks great really stylish, just like the Macbook Air. So simple to use just plug in and it works. Slight beep when you first put a cd in then it runs silently. Another great product from Apple.

Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive
Fast enough?

Well, aesthetically it's quite sublime. This product looks so cool next to your MacBook Air that, against all common sense and reason, it not only compensates for the sometimes slightly disagreeable decision to sacrifice the optical drive—it actually somehow makes the notebook even cooler than it was in the first place, gleaming with its inexplicable less-is-more charm. Even if you can't use it with a USB hub (more for driver reasons than power issues, I believe). That limits things a little, especially if you, say, want to backup something on the external hard drive you've no doubt bought to accompany the MacBook Air.
Essentially the product is blessed with graceful ease-of-use and efficiency and couldn't have been done that much better.
I wonder about its burning speed, though. It took four hours to burn a fully-loaded 8GB 'dual layer' DVD. How normal that is I can't be sure. What do you think?59 of 71 people found this useful

Essential Purchase

If you own a Macbook air you need this drive, its small, compact and works a treat. It compliments the computer well. It was the first thing i bought as soon as I got my macbook air. It's faster than using remote disk and you can import CD's and play movies and it doesnt affect the battery life to badly.

From the title of the product: "Apple MacBook Air SuperDrive - Compact and convenient, the MacBook Air SuperDrive connects to your MacBook Air computer with a single USB"
For it's stated use it is flawless. What about that statement misled you to think that the macbook air superdrive was for any other computer?106 of 185 people found this useful

Only MacBook Air because of power requirements...
Written by GB from London
26-Feb-2008
This will only work with the MacBook Air because Apple designed the Air to provide more power through its USB port so the SuperDrive doesn't require a mains power adaptor. Other computers don't provide enough power via their USB ports, so the SuperDrive won't work. Simple, really.

This drive is designed exclusively for the MacBook Air and does the job very well. It is very well built and sturdy enough to put in an overnight bag and not worry - too much about it.
Although the other reviewer (KN) had a bad experience it is very well publicised that this is for the MacBook Air ONLY - as always read the full details of products and ensure they meet your system requirements.129 of 216 people found this useful

Why only for macbook air?
Written by KN from LONDON

To confirm: this external superdrive do NOT work with other machine than the Macbook Air, eventhough the staffs at Apple Store in central London told me it would.
What a shame that such a slick product only works with 1 machine... But why, Apple, why??627 of 854 people found this useful
