    DeadMouse

    Written by SW from London

    28-Nov-2009

I too have had problems with my scroll wheel after a couple of months. Would not scroll up, only down. After checking forums I have found this useful bit of information:

    1) Unplug the mouse
    2) Get a paper towel and dampen it.
    3) Flip the mouse upside down and roll the ball on the damp papertowel, going up and down, side to side and in circles. Do this for a bit. Applying a slight amount of pressure
    4) Take a plain sheet of paper, and on a hard surface do the same thing that you did to the papertowel. Applying a slight amount of pressure.
    5) Plug it back in and test it.

This worked for me, and apparently with applecare your mouse will be covered anyway.

    problems within a few months....

    Written by WB from watford

    25-Oct-2009

i bought my imac about 2 months ago which came with the normal mouse.in the last 3 weeks the scroll wheel/button has gradually stopped working to the point that it can no longer scroll anything...ive tried cleaning it but still no luck.

so , its generally looks nice, doesnt work too well...

when it did work , it worked well but I'm surprised how quickly it has become faulty through normal , clean use.

    Not comfortable to use

    Written by DK from Darlington

    21-Oct-2009

My Mighty Mouse (or Apple Mouse as it now has to be called) hasn't had any problems at all in the couple of years I've had it. However, it's clearly a product of style over ergonomics.

The mouse looks great and the scroll ball and squeeze sensors all work fine. But it's simply not a comfortable mouse to use. Mine only gets used intermittently as I eventually got sick of its poor, uncomfortable feel and replaced it with a proper ergonomically designed mouse - that is, a mouse that's designed to feel comfortable in my hand, rather than one that's designed to look good sitting on my mouse mat.

Take my advice, don't buy this mouse, unless you're looking for an ornament.

I've used my mouse every day for over a year and there has never been a problem with either mouse or wheel - Maybe you should wash your hands once in a while ;-)..

    Scroll wheel clogs

    Written by BH from Newport

    21-Oct-2009

Overall this is a good mouse but the major design flaw is the scroll wheel. After a few months of use it becomes clogged with dust and debris and eventually ceases to scroll at all. The web is littered with blog posts complaining about the problem. There are guides online for those who want to dismantle the mouse and clean the faulty components, but should this really be necessary for a £30+ product? Consider carefully before making your purchase.

How to Clean your scrollermouse properly

    Written by NH from Bristol

    20-Oct-2009

This is a good mouse....but I have also had the scroll ball issue for a long time but here is a good solution...

Hold the mouse upside down and use a baby wipe yes a baby wipe any type will do to clean the ball in all directions...Baby wipes have an degreasing agent this usually gives about a working weeks relief from the dreaded dead ball !!!

In my office this restored mice that had not worked for months.. give it a try

    Ball can't be cleaned

    Written by MP from BRIGHTON

    20-Oct-2009

Unfortunately, after having owned THREE mighty mice (two came with new Macs), I can only say they're a waste of time. They inevitably accumulate gunk in the mechanism, which being inaccessible renders the whole thing useless in terms of scrolling etc.

I got so frustrated that I ended up getting a Griffin PowerMate, which has worked dependably for the last 5 years.

Why they couldn't put a multitouch sensor in a wired mouse is a mystery.

    Wired Mighty Mouse

    Written by DC from LEICESTER

    14-Oct-2009

Really poor mouse. Changed it about 3 times in not even a year because the scroll just breaks. I've done the whole cleaning thing to it, which works; for about a day. I'm in need to change my mouse for the 4th time today as it's bodged up again.

Frustrating but ultimately a great product

    Written by DL from Bedford

    12-Oct-2009

I struggled for months with the scroll wheel working intermittently and I even put the Mighty Mouse to one side and tried other mice. But I kept coming back to it because I do love its compact size and lightness.

I just gave up using the scroll wheel - until one day I stumbled over a review which recommended cleaning the wheel by turning the mouse upside down and running the wheel over a blank sheet of clean paper, in all directions. This worked like a charm and now, every few days, I repeat this cleaning and the mouse works perfectly.

    More Scrolling Problems

    Written by BE from LEIGH-ON-SEA

    27-Sep-2009

Like a lot of others I find the scroll wheel stops working after a short time. Mainly it will scroll up only, sometimes it will not scroll at all, sometimes it will work normally for a short while. I often press the side bars without wanting to also very annoying. Seems like a very poor design.

As a new Mac used I'm not a happy bunny!

    Scroll ball again...

    Written by CP from BRIGHTON

    23-Sep-2009

Lots of negative comments already re the scroll ball, but I thought I'd add my voice. Yes, it clogs up in no time. Rolling it around upside-down on some paper helps, especially if you moisten it with suitable cleaning fluid first, but!! After a while this did no good, so I took it apart: the thing was clogged with fluff, and try as I might I couldn't get it going again, even after cleaning rollers. Should I keep it in a sealed dust free room?! Point is, it desperately needs re-designing to isolate the works from the outside world. How to do that is Apple's problem, but where there's a will there's a way. One star, cos I've ditched it and gone back to an old mouse I had knocking around.

This Mouse is in fact a Turkey

Written by DT from Brent Pelham, Nr. BUNTINGFORD

    16-Sep-2009

This mouse represents the triumph of Form over Substance....The scroll wheel is so small that a tiny bit of fluff renders it inoperative. If you buy this mouse, be prepared to have to clean the tiny 'wheel ball' on a regular basis. Sadly, its a badly thought out real world solution.

Easily the worst Apple product ever

Written by TL from Newcastle upon Tyne

    14-Sep-2009

The mouse itself looks alright, however it feels very tacky. My mine gripe however with this item, and the reason I have decided to write this review, is the scroll ball.
Easily the most useless scroll on any mouse, ever created. Simply the natural grease from your fingers will render this completely useless within about week of owning it.
I have to clean mine using compressed air and a specialist cleaning foam about once every few days just to keep it working.

    Sort it out Apple!

    Nice Design but Flawed

    Written by MO from NESTON

    14-Sep-2009

Fits very well with the iMac design. Unfortunately, it does not quite match the quality of the iMac. It collects dirt and dust and the mouse stopped scrolling forward after less than a year. Cleaning proved impossible. For 34 pounds this is not what consumers should expect from Apple.

    I love this mouse

    Written by JM from Bristol

    11-Sep-2009

I have been using a basic mouse for the last 2 years and switched back to the mighty mouse after using the single button variety.

I am really happy with the product, i find it tracks well on a mouse pad and the buttons feel positive.

Some problems which for me are no big deal but might be for you.

    1. the squeeze side buttons is difficult to operate, i have to release my grip on the mouse to use them, i just don't use it

    2. For me it needs a mouse mat underneath it or it makes a horrible scraping noise on my desk

    Cant fault it

    Written by BG from llanelli

    07-Sep-2009

had this a few days, no problems at all. scrolls perfectly, i like that you can have just a single button, or use it with 2 buttons. i dont like the side buttons personally as when i used the mouse sometimes application switcher would open, but you can turn it off, and even change the function of buttons with ease and anyway way round you want them. Exactly what the customer should get, a fully customisable product. no problems with cord length, i have a macbook (usb on left side) and im right handed and it reaches around the back fine with plenty of slack.

    Right Handers Beware (Macbook)

    Written by KC from Gateshead

    29-Aug-2009

If are you thinking about buying a WIRED mouse for your macbook and you are right handed then beware, the USB ports are on the left side of the laptop and the wires of the wired mouse just isn't long enough to wrap around the back or front of the laptop so that you are able to use it with your right hand.

I took mine back to the shop to replace it with a wireless mouse and I've had no problems with it at all! Loving my new mouse!

    Awful scroll ball

    Written by CT from Sheffield

Scroll ball refuses to scroll down. Have cleaned it with every cleaner known to man and will not work. My partner has the same problem with hers too. There are much better and much cheaper products available.
