    More Wire Please...

The Mighty Mouse is really easy to use and i expect allot of people will choose this because it is £15 cheaper and that they can put up with an extra wire. Don't. I have measured the wire and it is 70cm which isn't enough. So my advice is to go for the Wireless one.

    Problems with scrolling

This is the second mighty mouse I have owned after the first one's scroll wheel failed. The same has now happened this one. I would expect that a company such as Apple would treat it's customers with a little more respect and stop selling such utter rubbish to them. i will not be buying Apple products again.

    Totally useless mouse

I have had problems with this mouse since I first bought an iMac last March. It's always the same thing - the vertical scrolling. I bought a wireless mighty mouse and the scrolling soon packed up with that too. I have persevered with this wired mouse but now the scrolling will not work at all. I have tried all the various methods of cleaning it - and no joy. So, I plugged in a USB wheel mouse from my old Dell desktop and it worked perfectly. That mouse set me back £12 when I bought it in 2003 and has never given any trouble. I cannot understand how Apple can produce such a useless piece of kit like this - one that is so important to get right. If Dell can do it, why can't Apple. It is truly rubbish.

    Scrolling problems but otherwise good.

The Mighty Mouse is, in general, a good mouse. However, like a lot of users I did loose vertical scrolling the other day. Luckily I followed the advice from the reviewer NT on 7th January 2008. This worked and I have regained vertical scrolling. The Mighty Mouse is flawed but as long as you keep it clean it'll be OK!

    Love my Mighty Mouse

It's been 6 months since I purchased my Imac which came with a wired mighty mouse and I haven't had any problems with it since. The only issue was at the beginning when I had to get used to using a mouse after having used a lap-top touch pad, but other than that it's all been smoothe. Also I spilt coffee all over my desk a few days ago and unfortunately had my mighty mouse involved as well, and after a good wipe it still works good as new!!

OK, granted, there is a flaw in the design of this mouse, but I bet 90% of mice problems can be solved like this:

    1. unplug the mouse from the keyboard
    2. turn it upside down
    3. roll the scrollwheel in all directions on a blank (clean) piece of paper, in all directions, for 60 seconds
    4. re-attach

bingo! works every time. this is a good mouse in both OS X and Windows, I have used it for gaming and is excellent for browsing large webpages or large documents, with its 360 degree scrollwheel. although at times i want to get away from the mouse/keyboard combo (it is 2008 now, after all), at least this Mighty Mouse lessens the pain somewhat.

    Mighty Mouse

    Well what can I say!!!!!!
I am on my third mouse and the main problem still seems to be that after about 8 months the scroll wheel will stop working. Apart from this it is a very good product but ultimately Apple can't expect people to keep spending money on a flawed product that WILL break down

Dead after 24 days, bad for gaming.

Hi, having bought a lovely new iMac, and it working fairly well for almost a month, i woke up on new years day to check my emails, and found my Mighty Mouse had totally died; fortunately AppleCare were able to have it replaced, and i am awaiting the new one.

the mouse its self, seemed to be good, it was poor for windows gaming, because the right click was pretty difficult to find... often pressing the right side of the mouse still resulted in a left click being registered.

In Mac, however this mouse was truly fantastic, the squeeze feature was really useful, as was having a ball to scroll around documents, especially for pictures.

If Apple sorted out reliability of this mouse, and made that right click just a little better, i might recommend it!

    Apple Cares

Having read many reviews slating the scrollball for clogging with dirt quickly, I braced myself for the worst this morning when I bought mine. Opening the box, the first thing I see is a sheet printed separately from the manual which reads: ATTENTION - YOU MAY NEED TO CLEAN YOUR MIGHTY MOUSE FROM TIME TO TIME. I assume this is Apple acknowledging customer complaints, and doing the cheapest thing possible.

On another note, my first impression of the feel of the mouse isn't as brilliant as i'd hoped. The squeeze buttons ruin the ergonomic feel slightly, and the USB cable barely reaches around the back of my macbook - Not a problem if you are left handed.

But you wouldn't care about its problems- you (alike I) only bought this for that little apple sat proud atop it. End of the day, it's a mouse and I can only hope it lasts long enough to justify the money I spent on it.

    Scroll ball!

It's a great idea, don't get me wrong! But just because the theory works, it doesn't mean it does in practice. I'm already on my second and the scroll ball on that has stopped working too.

If the troublesome scroll ball was just updated to a touch sensitive pad or something, maybe Apple wouldn't spend so much on replacements for these things?

Apart from the scroll ball, this is a lovely mouse - even if it isn't that ergonomic. I love the 4 buttons and every-time I have to use a boring old PC mouse, I keep finding myself squeezing the sides... but really, the scroll ball lets this down (And the way it gets very filthy very quickly).

Maybe Macworld in the next few weeks will give us an answer to our problems? My MightyMouse has been the only thing wrong with my new Mac, really... and I don't want it to spoil the way my friends and family think of Macs and Apple when they come to use my iMac and find they can't scroll because the scroll ball is broken... because that way, they'll never be convinced to leave their PCs!

The Mighty Mouse is still one of the best mice I have ever used. The scroll wheel has stopped working on mine a couple of times, but a quick clean with some baby wipes always gets it going again. I find baby wipes will clean most parts of a computer easily, including the mouse cable which can tend to get dirty after a while.

See the review entitled 'Method to Clean the Scrollball...' dated Nov 3rd 2007. My scrollball hasn't worked for months. Tried 'the method' and now it does. Hurrah! Thank you so much for passing this on. I too was frustrated with my mouse but refused to pay for a replacement.

LC you get 5 stars. Apple only 2 for the Mighty Mouse (but I still love my iMac G5)

Please Apple do something about this.

Been reading Mighty Mouse reviews - a disconcerting experience. After buying the new updated and top-drawer Mac Mini (super drive), I thought I'd also treat myself to a Mighty Mouse. It's one of the best Mac products I've bought. Period. Listen guys, it does actually do what it says on the box. But, if you use it while guzzling your doughnuts with cream and cafe au lait, well, it's gonna get..., sticky. So what? But, it's easy to sort. Just read the advice! Rub the ball, upside-down, with a damp (not wet) cloth a few times, and it's brand new. Can you guys not read or something??? Just do it and stop grouching! And roll on!

    Superb Mouse

Despite all of the negative comments, I want to recommend this mouse.

Our 2 mice were bought just after the Mighty mouse was introduced, and, after initial adaptation to the different way of right-clicking [you just lift your finger off the left side of the mouse] we have had no problems.

One scroll ball did need cleaning, once, and, yes, we did have to open the case. Easier access to the scroll ball would be the one major way in which Apple could improve this item.

But, to be fair, our PC mice, used on Linux boxes, have had to be opened and cleaned numerous times within the past year. That's probably the reason why 'normal' mice are designed with easier access for cleaning.

Using other mice seems odd, after using the Mighty Mouse. And, if given the choice, we would use the Apple product any time.

    Great....when it works!

These are great mice/mouses (you chose). Perfectly ergonomically designed and beautiful to look at. However after a few months of 'normal' use, the scroll ball will pack up. The reason for this is that the mechanism inside gets clogged up with dirt. For a while you can get by if you use a little drop of Apples LCD cleaner solution. Putting a little on your finger and scrolling the ball to coat it. Eventually though, this too will cease to free the scroll ball when it sticks again.

Sadly, Apple in their wisdom have sealed these mice so in order to properly clean the scroll mechanism you must literally break the seals on the the little grey ring at the base of the unit. It's relatively easy from then on to take it apart and clean the mech every so often but the mouse will never look as pretty as it did when you bought it.
If Apple only made one of these with a scroll ball that was completely sealed making it impossible for the dirt to get in, then this product would be perfect.

    Evolution

So along comes Mighty Mouse and completely evolutionizes my work flow. I can't tell you what an improvement this thing makes. I know you can get a stupid ugly looking windows mouse with a scroll wheel for ages but frankly I can't lower my standards. So apple has kicked it big time with this. It's amazing. Having read all of the reviews here I've been anticipating the worst with the wheel, but with bearing all of what I've read in mind, I've once a week used an alcohol wipe to give it a quick clean. 3 months down he track and it's running just as smooth as ever. Of corse it would be nice if I didn't have to clean it, but what are the options? Mighty Mouse or some ugly uninspiring heap of junk design that leaves me feeling sad.. :)

So I've given it 4 stars for the cleaning issue (which may not be a problem at al) AND one other reason...I LOVE the addition of the side squeeze buttons, I have it set to desktop (squeeze buttons and it moves all windows away to reveal the desktop - GENIOUS ! ) but when I'm retouching photos (which is alot of the time) I have to turn it off. The buttons are placed right where my hands hold the mouse and I constantly activate it and end up wanting to throw my Macbook Pro across room.

Normal use how ever it's fine and you can deactvate the function so that nothing happens. BUT...it's SUCH a good feature that I want it and I think it would be better having the buttons some where else. No I can't move my hands, it's where they sit best.
