Just got it today, Fantastic to use, looks great. Just a shame the post man posted it through the letterbox and let it drop 2ft! All in all I would seriously recommend this keyboard.

    Ace Keyboard!

This keyboard is fantastic, its low profile makes it a pleasure to use.

I have a Macbook and I love the keyboard, I bought the new keyboard to go with my 24" iMac (white chassis) and it compliments the imac very well.

On a side note, the USB ports work well but only with mice or low powered devices. Works perfect with self powered devices like external HDD's etc.

    Old vs. New

I like having the numbers on the right like I am use to. I am, however, having trouble getting used to the keyboard itself. It is so sensitive and very easy to hit the wrong key although I am proficient at typing on the "old style" keyboards. But, since this is what comes with it, I shall prevail.

    Best keyboard I've ever used

This keyboard is utterly fantastic. The feel of the keys is only slightly deeper than most laptop keyboards, which means that you get the right soft feel while still feeling as if you've really hit something. The pressure that needs to be applied is fairly low – a tiny bit high for my taste but most people would find lower pressure uncomfortable. The Caps Lock key is slightly temperamental, but only slightly. There is about 3 mm between the keys, so you're less likely to hit a key you didn't mean to. The texture of the keys is quite smooth, but not glossy, and nice to the touch. Although the enter key is a bit small, I do not find this is a problem, although I occasionally miss the backspace key. The overall feel is much better than the clunky keyboards most computers are equipped with. The position of the function key is a bit odd, but feels natural once you're used to it. Some people would find the layout of the keyboard has a few problems, e.g. there is no displayed hash key (accessed via option-3).
The looks of this keyboard are fantastic too. Apple have finally removed their logos from the command keys, although the symbols for control ("^") and backspace ("⌫") are not shown and the option keys still have "alt" written on them for no apparent reason. The keys are white with grey letters (not illuminated unfortunately), set against a brushed aluminium background. The back is white and glossy, and easily sustains fingerprints, but I don't really know why you'd be looking at the back anyway. The colours used will look good in almost any environment.
The USB ports are incredibly useful, albeit a bit low – fatter USB sticks can't be plugged in. They also don't have quite the same amount of energy as the ones built in to your computer.
The cable has an extension and is about 2m long altogether.
Overall: Fantastic, although it will probably take a while to get used to for those used to mechanical keyboards.

Once again another excellent product from Apple. I bought this keyboard to use with my MacBook as I use an external monitor for my day-to-day work. I must say that it is amazing! At only £29 (I bought mine from an Apple reseller in Liverpool) it represents very good value. The key strokes very pleasing, they are very similar to those of the MacBook, and the design of the thing is very nice too. I have my mouse plugged into one USB port and my iPod Shuffle's dock plugged into the other (the silver Aluminum of the keyboard compliments the iPod's casing very nicely too).

So you get, a USB 2.0 hub, a super keyboard and many admiring looks from PC users all for less than £30!

I purchased this keyboard straight away due it's slim good looks, new key design, additional functions and it's USB 2.0 ports that the previous keyboards lacked.

Using the keyboard is great. It is much quicker and easier to use than any other desktop keyboard. The keys are light to the touch and clear to read. The function keys are useful, particularly for itunes.

The first problem I notice is that the USB 2.0 ports do not appear to be able to power any of the USB 2.0 items i tried... low power messages appear.

The main problem with this keyboard is with the laptop (same as the Macbook) type keys. The esc key has already fallen off in my hands. Thankfully there are plenty of F-keys I am not using to swap it with, but quite frankly for a key to fall off without any apparent misused is unacceptable! and I now have a gap on the keyboard where an F-key key use to be, and I now worry when then next key will fall off.

For £29 I think it would be reasonably priced if the keys (the scissor mechanism particularly) were of alot better quality and strength. As it stands it is alot of money for something which falls apart so easily.

Looks great, feels great and I can type faster

It looks great & matches my Macbook Pro. I prefer the feel of this keyboard to the old Apple keyboard that it replaces, as I can type quicker with the reduced key travel on these thinner keyboards. Also I have got used to the built-in keyboard on the Macbook Pro and so no longer suffer with typos after a trip away typing on the laptop. I also find it less of a strain on my wrists as it is so thin.

But if you prefer the clunky keys on older keyboards then I guess this might not be for you.

I bought this to compliment my ubuntu look and out of the need for a better keyboard. The keyboard is absolutely amazing, Came in great packaging and was easy to set up, typing is a lot easier and faster and the keyboard looks amazing, not to mention doubling up as a really useful USB hub. In the words of Steve ballmer,
    "I love this company!!!"

    where is the £ key?

I cannot believe that the UK keyboard, bought here in the UK, fails to have a £ key. Also no 'go the end of the line' key (but perhaps there are some key combinations that do the same?).
The quality and feel is superb so overall I am happy!

Yes a very neat and tidy keyboard. Light to the touch, and a lower profile than the previous incarnation.

This keyboard is not a crumbcatcher.

    Good for occasional use

This is an elegant, very light-weight keyboard, unusually quiet to use. For travel purposes or occasional use it is perfect, but for anyone who wants to do some serious - or full-time - writing, it is far from ideal. Its keys are to shallow and close-spaced for comfortable use and the overall effect is markedly flimsy.
Yet another triumph of design over function, presumably

This keyboard boggles my mind. It has a lovely feel and is quiet to type on. It's design is immaculate - every time I see it I smile and as a bonus it's connected to my PC (you can use free software called 'applekeys' to emulate the printscreen and scroll lock keys). How it's only £25 given the build quality and materials I'll never know. If it was £120 I can promise you, I'd be looking at how I could raise the funds! Already have two more on order for impressed friends and family...

Sleek Looks, Fabulous Feel, Good Speeds, Very Quiet

The new keys taking you to expose and dashboard are marvelous and for a light user like myself this keyboard has opened up the ease of use to some apps.

I really wanted a wireless one but I am glad I had purchased the wired one as the extra USB ports are very useful.

If you are still on the Clear/White keyboards then you are missing out.

    A MUST BUY.

Stunning service from Apple; I ordered this online and had the courier standing on my doorstep within 24 hours!!

The keyboard itself takes a little getting used to for those of use used to the conventional keyboards that come packaged with PCs (recent Mac convert!), which have a much harder action and more raised keys. It is a much lower profile, but the action is beautiful and makes typing much more effortless.

Beautifully designed, plugs and plays, both under Mac OS X and in Windows under Boot Camp.

For those who type a lot, buy this and never look back. Your only regret will be not having bought it sooner.

    Nice design but...

I really like the slimline design and the keys are easy to use but...why is there no number (hash, gate) symbol key? Any web-designer/developer MUST use the number (hash)symbol when creating stylesheets and many tools like BBEdit don't provide a way of inserting the symbol as they assume you have the key!

Apparently the wireless model has the same problem - so it looks like I will have to get a 3rd party keyboard!

    Sick keyboard

This is a vast improvement on previous keyboards. The low profile is nice to work with.

As a Pro user - it is rather frustrating that the 'eject' key has moved down into the F key area, as I use F13 in Quark and a lot of other apps on a very regular basis. The Eject key has also reverted back to the non-sticky eject feature so I am now ejecting media constantly.

    Pretty but dumb.

4 of 5 people found this useful

Ok, aesthetically this keyboard verges on beautiful and is whisper quiet.

On the downside however it lacks some of the functionality for pro apps users. Moving the volume/eject keys is a daft idea and I'd really hoped they'd go back to the old version of having finger spaces between every four function keys borders on infuriating. For Pro Tools I utilise F5 - F8 most and with the spaces can find these keys in my sleep and lose this ability here. And with the new low level smoothness of the keys it is much easier to mis-key.(and am I being a bit moany if I mention the tiny return key?).

Software update had to be installed before the new hot keys would work (make sure you try this rather than assuming it is broken) and it has little traction overall meaning it tends to slide about a bit.

The USB ports spoil the overall sleek look by being right at the edge so the wires stick right out the sides and if you're on a small surface, interfere with your mouse movement.

All said though it is a good solid keyboard, fantastically ergonomic and if you do a lot of touch typing then it will serve you well.

    Ergonomic Masterpiece

I have always liked the aesthetics of the Mac keyboard but they were awful to touch type with as the keys were too klunky to be of any real use to me. I have been using a third party low profile Macally keyboard which whilst very ergonomic was aesthetically awful...

The new mac keyboard is perfect... Matches my 17" Macbook Pro and the 30" cinema display perfectly and provides a very tactile touch typing experience. I doubt I will use the built in USB ports but it's nice to have them.

Build quality is excellent being formed from a slab of aluminium. If I were to split hairs I would say the only minor problem is the return (for those of you younger than me = Enter) key is a little on the small side.
