Don't let the specs fool you

We recently purchased this for a fathers day present for My girlfriends dad. As he has just acquired an old imac of ebay. I personally have had to test it on my old imac which is overdue for an update. I am using 10.2.8 an the only problems are the fact that the F keys, eject & volume control do not function at the top of the keyboard. I do not use these anyway so it is no real loss. The usb ports are working fine.
However I do have another problem, I don't want to give it to him as it is such a joy to type on. Looks like I will be buying another one for myself very soon.

    Beautiful.

Been using the new keyboard for a day now. What the photos don't show is the compact size of the keyboard. It's slightly smaller then a standard keyboard... but it is absolutely beautiful. The keys are a pleasure to touch. The shortcut buttons on the function keys are convenient and the option of going all the way up to F19 enables you shortcuts galore!

My only gripe is that the keyboard does not show the currency symbols over the number keys (apart from the USD). They are there and function fine; they are just not printed on the keys. I have the English International keyboard and was hoping that this would mean there would be all the currency symbols displayed across the keyboard. However, it's hardly an issue.

Other things I should point out. The USB ports on either side are slightly recessed into the keyboard- which looks great. The cord is quite short but is provided with an extension cable. I thoroughly recommend it. Gorgeous.

Slap Bang Wallop What A Keyboard

Sleek but sensual the all new Apple Keyboard provides the performance and reliability sorely missed in the modern typing market. With all the durability and tactile responsiveness from a top market brand it delivers more then just a writing utensil. Recommended by top celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Nick Bird i join them in saying this is perhaps the most important technological discovery of the 21st century. I urge you to spend your hard earned pennies and wish you all the luck and lust i have had with it.

    Good for occasional use

This is an elegant, very light-weight keyboard, unusually quiet to use. For travel purposes or occasional use it is perfect, but for anyone who wants to do some serious - or full-time - writing, it is far from ideal. Its keys are to shallow and close-spaced for comfortable use and the overall effect is markedly flimsy.
Yet another triumph of design over function, presumably

    Simplicity, but with More!

Design wise, I love it. I'm not much of a 'fan' of keyboards, and I don't think many people are really, but when you see this it's hard not to be impressed! It has a beautiful finish - it looks precision engineered and feels it too.

Using the keyboard excellent. Gone are big, clunky noisy keys of old, and you now get a much more sensitive, responsive feel. It really is nice to work with!

If I was to pick something to complain about, I couldn't. Put it like that. A great piece of Apple design.

Worth ditching the old one for!

I got this to replace the one that came with my imac a couple of years ago. The old one acted like a bucket collecting all of the dust and crumbs (I know I shouldn't eat at my computer but I do) and because it's see through, you can see it all but you can't get at it! Not with this new one. It looks cool and crisps have nowhere to go. Perfect. The travel on the keys is just right and the labelled shortcuts are just perfect for newbies who may not discover the joys of Expose and being able to control i tunes from the keyboard. Some have said it gets a while to get used to the keys not going in as far but didn't people once complain that keyboards didn't feel as nice to use as type writers? I'd like to see someone build a keyboard with mechanical weights in it to replicate that and see if it sells. This keyboard is the best I've ever owned. (and yes I own a type writer too)

    Best keyboard I've ever used

This keyboard is utterly fantastic. The feel of the keys is only slightly deeper than most laptop keyboards, which means that you get the right soft feel while still feeling as if you've really hit something. The pressure that needs to be applied is fairly low – a tiny bit high for my taste but most people would find lower pressure uncomfortable. The Caps Lock key is slightly temperamental, but only slightly. There is about 3 mm between the keys, so you're less likely to hit a key you didn't mean to. The texture of the keys is quite smooth, but not glossy, and nice to the touch. Although the enter key is a bit small, I do not find this is a problem, although I occasionally miss the backspace key. The overall feel is much better than the clunky keyboards most computers are equipped with. The position of the function key is a bit odd, but feels natural once you're used to it. Some people would find the layout of the keyboard has a few problems, e.g. there is no displayed hash key (accessed via option-3).
The looks of this keyboard are fantastic too. Apple have finally removed their logos from the command keys, although the symbols for control ("^") and backspace ("⌫") are not shown and the option keys still have "alt" written on them for no apparent reason. The keys are white with grey letters (not illuminated unfortunately), set against a brushed aluminium background. The back is white and glossy, and easily sustains fingerprints, but I don't really know why you'd be looking at the back anyway. The colours used will look good in almost any environment.
The USB ports are incredibly useful, albeit a bit low – fatter USB sticks can't be plugged in. They also don't have quite the same amount of energy as the ones built in to your computer.
The cable has an extension and is about 2m long altogether.
Overall: Fantastic, although it will probably take a while to get used to for those used to mechanical keyboards.

Nice piece of art!..very thin...i mean really thin. Very well built, if you have a macbook, or macbook pro, this item has the exact spaces, shape and look of your laptop's keyboard, except for the arrows and numbers.
The 2 USB ports on each side, makes it even more useful. So you will not compromise losing one usb port for the keyboard, cause you will get 2 with it!
    100% Recommended.

About 4 months ago I bought a new 24" Silver and black iMac, gorgeous looks, fabulous power, quiet as a graveyard!!

Having been a high end PC user for most of my working life I am a total Apple convert, I briefly had a Dual 1.8 G5 before getting my beloved iMac.

I love the stability and design of these things and when I saw the look of the new keyboard couldn't wait to quite literally get my hands on one.

At the Apple shop in Birmingham UK I decided to go for the wired keyboard because I liked the idea of USB connectors being easily accessible for my nano and for my digital camera, so with a big smile on my face I heaved the huge iMac box home.

There's no doubt about it, the design is beautiful, the colour of green LED on the caps lock key is great, and the touch feels ok BUT ....

I'm sorry to say I much prefer the older 'chunky' keyboard when it comes to doing lots of typing.

I've given this a really good go but too often like others on here have posted I find that the Caps key doesn't lock on if you hit it too quickly, letters are sometimes missed when typing quickly and the overall 'feel' is a bit of a let down.

I'm totally torn now .. I want USB 2 and great looks, but in the end it's the functionality that counts and I know I'm going against what most others have posted on here but my honest opinion is that this keyboard doesn't quite hit the spot, close but not quite!

Personally I think others who have posted on here are getting a bit hyped up because of the looks and the fact that it's new, but really honestly I wish the keys were a little deeper maybe only 3-5mm and that they travelled just a little further so that you knew you had pressed something.

It is definitely quieter than previous keyboards I have used and as I've said it does look fabulous, but when it comes down to it I'm yet to be convinced it is as hard wearing and robust as the older models and it certainly isn't as responsive.

I am going to keep on trying with it to see if my experience improves, but after 4 months I suspect I will still find this falls short of previous offerings, worse still I look at the apple web site and I may be mistaken but it seems like you can't get the old ones anymore, so it may be a trip to e-bay for me I fear...

In closing, I love the iMac and am definitely a bit of an evangelist for Apple nowadays, but this product misses the mark (in my opinion).

    Best keyboard I've ever used

    • Written by from LONDON

I have just changed from the Logitech Cordless desktop S530 keyboard to this Apple one and love it -- the keys are well spaced out and very precise to type on, with no lateral movement and no need to press the keys in a long way (quite unlike the Logitech S530), leading to quicker typing with fewer typos. It is also very quiet to use -- a previous reviewer made this point and it's not something I had ever particularly thought about but it's true and makes it pleasant to use too.

The only small reservation is that it takes up a USB slot. It does provides two replacement USB slots but they are low power, e.g. with not enough power to recharge an iPod. If only there was a bluetooth version with a numeric keypad...

My Fifth Keyboard in Two Years

    • Written by from AIRDRIE

This is the first time I've used this particular model. On the plus side, the key response is far better than previous models, and for touch typists like myself, it makes for quicker typing. On the downside is that there's no riser support at the back of the keyboard, having to use my monitors stand for this. Also, the Enter key is too small, and feel that to give the keyboard more 'feel', the keys would be better being less flat and more like previous models (bevelled).

    Hopefully, this one lasts longer!

In a word this keyboard is wonderful. Its a beauty to type on, feels great ad looks great.
I had absolutely no issues when I first started to use it and all the functions keys worked straight away. Unlike a few people it took very little time to get acclimatized with the new feel. If you need a new keyboard i would seriously recommend that you buy this one!!!!

I have this keyboard for 6 months and I think it is excellent. Very good design with a good feel and response from the keys. The USB outlets on the side are a real bonus for connecting color calibration equipment etc.
A good example of apple at its best.

    Enjoy

Got this keyboard two days ago and i love it, i use it on my powerbook and it really comfortable.
Its great for placing on your lap whilst you type as its almost flat, and unlike the old keyboard style, there's no nasty gaps under the keyboard, which is a problem if your son keeps eating biscuits whilst playing on the internet - crumbs!!!.
I really like it, a quick swiff over with some i-clean and its as good as new!
only minor problem is that if you connect two high power items to the usb ports at the same time, the computer tells you off!

This is a great keyboard for most home users, i had planned to use it along side my older style apple keyboard, but the new one out performs on so many levels that im now buying a second one.

People may have had doubts about the flatness/laptop-like keys, but it is fine to touch type on, and it is easy to distinguish between keys.

Best thing however, is that because of its extremely low profile it feels like its part of my desk, meaning that it hardly puts any strain on my wrists/arms.

Stop eyeing it up and get it bought!!

the best keyboard i've ever used, it weighs to the table very well considering its so small. the USB ports on the side were pure genius, considering on my iMac the USB ports are round the back which can be a pain to get to because its in a hole in my wall. so i have to turn the whole computer round. All of the keys have worked fine. they are very well spaced apart so its easy to type. and also the gaps between the keys and the rest of the keyboard are tiny (less than half a mm) so i don't drop anything down there unlike with my old one where i would have 2 turn it upside down 2 get all the crums and other things that fell down the gaps!

all round excellent keyboard, would reccomend to anyone who needs a keyboard!

had this bought for me as a christmas present to replace my old white one. it took a while to get used to but now i love it. the keys are well spaced out, which makes it easy to type and it looks very slick into the bargain . Having only used it since christmas i was surprised to find the the alt key on the left hand side has lost its springiness and the key has sunk into the keyboard and is now flushed with the aluminum facia.i will be returning it to the authorized dealer that i bought it from and get a replacement. fingers crossed that this was just a faulty one.I'm having to use my old keyboard in the interim and its horrible in comparison very clunky and awkward to use i hope the dealer has a replacement.
