    Totally awesome.

You know aside from the design the best thing about this keyboard is that it is very quiet. Much more so than the old ones. I am now finally able to type while on the phone without people hearing the tapping noise!!!

Makes my G5 feel like a brand new machine

    Written by JL from FERNDOWN

    10-Aug-2007

This really is an ultimate keyboard - I am not sure if a full time typist would like it as it is very flat and no form to the keys.

But for a four fingered typist it is superb!!!

    Best Bits:
    1. Such a great design - but there again it is from Apple :o)
    2. I can see the caps lock light without having to look down the hole in the key.
    3. The keys are nice and big and quiet.
    4. The control buttons for itunes means that I no longer have to be in itunes to pause or go back and forward.

I am so impressed that I am now going to order the wireless version to go with my existing mini for the lounge TV.

BUY ONE - YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY....

actually one NEGATIVE - Apple no longer on apple key

What can I say, Well let's start with the great design, the fantastic feel and the unique look.
I have come from a world of PC's so maybe I'm easily impressed. But I can say that for the money you won't be dissapointed.
And god knows I've had my share of dissapointment.

    New ultra slim keyboard

    Written by GF from Chatham

    11-Aug-2007

From a prefessional designers point of view who uses Wireless / Mighty Mouse...this new aluminium keyboard looks good and feels good as texted at the Store.
But for continual rapid keyboard commands and shortcuts in a working environment this soon makes fingers and wrists ache.
Fine for home iLifers but not for 'shoppers using it non-stop three to four hours at a time! I need to 'feel' the keys.

    Slim, quiet, beautiful.

    Written by NE from Hastings

    13-Aug-2007

Pros. Slim, compact, beautiful, very quiet and easy to type, and now seems to work more seemlessly with Windows (ie, ctrl key in correct place)

Cons. New F-key features will not work with old versions of OS X.
Apple claim it is USB 2.0 hub whereas I have put some high speed devices in, such as an sdhc card and get a low power message as I did on all the old usb keyboards.

    Ergonomic Masterpiece

    Written by AG from HALIFAX

    13-Aug-2007

I have always liked the aesthetics of the Mac keyboard but they were awful to touch type with as the keys were too klunky to be of any real use to me. I have been using a third party low profile Macally keyboard which whilst very ergonomic was aesthetically awful...

The new mac keyboard is perfect... Matches my 17" Macbook Pro and the 30" cinema display perfectly and provides a very tactile touch typing experience. I doubt I will use the built in USB ports but it's nice to have them.

Build quality is excellent being formed from a slab of aluminium. If I were to split hairs I would say the only minor problem is the return (for those of you younger than me = Enter) key is a little on the small side.

    Beautiful keyboard, not for everyone...

    Written by AB from London

    14-Aug-2007

I bought this the morning it came on the site - my older apple keyboard whilst responsive was too clunky and heavy. and sitting 8 hours a day at it, I started to get tired wrists from the height.

Let's set aside the looks - they're fantastic. And the anodysed look closely matches my monitors and mac pro case - good job apple!
The response takes a very slight getting used to, but once you have it's far easier to type from and completely comfortable during long sessions.

This keyboard might still not be a replacement for everyone though:
the additional shortkeys at the top may be great for the casual user, but if like me you're a pro apps user, beware that such keys as the volume controls have been stuck onto the F keys. F keys that you may use constantly in Final Cut Pro.
You can turn the volume controls off when you use such apps, but personally I find it a little tricky to juggle between the two.

Just a word of warning if you are a heavy apps user, otherwise a very solid product that combines great looks with impressive functionality.

    The new apple wired keyboard

    Written by PJ from Walton-On-Thames,

    15-Aug-2007

I purchased the new apple wired keyboard out of interest to see how it flows. I am pleasantly surprised by its speed and smoothness. My previous keyboards have been both the apple wired and apple wireless keyboard and I much preferred the wired. However, the new apple wired keyboard seems to have a much better feel to it. Words seem to flow from the almost silent keyboard and it is the best I have used.

It is also pleasing to see the USB 2.0 ports attached to the keyboard. Also useful are the additional keys for screen brightness, expose, dashboard etc. An excellent buy.

Very Pleased & Quick Delivery Too

    Written by BG from exeter

Mine arrived this morning and I only ordered it on Monday.

Fantastic to look at, good to work with, I had to change the Expose options in System Prefs to F13,F14 & F15 although the new key (F3) shows all windows the desktop and app windows have lost their F keys to the music/video functions.

Keyboard is much quieter and lower, has a lovely feel to it, the English version I bought is slightly different to the pictures shown on the website. The return key is double height and some of the printed details have changed too. cmd instead of the word command (I miss the apple logo on that key) ctrl instead of control etc.

It takes a few minutes to get used to and I think the return key is a little small, but I'd highly recommend it.

Every bit as good as I'd expected!

I finally got my new keyboard today. At first I feared it would be another 'Wii' situation with the Store selling out as quickly as they came in and never sure when they would get more stocks in.

At first, my keyboard exposé, brightness etc keys did not work and F12 seemed to eject the CD tray so I guessed it was time to get the instructions out .... stupid me, it seems that once you have plugged in your new keyboard, you need to do a software update.

After this, all keys are working fine. The keyboard, as well as looking sleek and matching my Apple cinema display perfectly, is responsive and very quiet. I certainly have no regrets .... in fact, I'm well pleased!

    Mega Keyboard

    Written by RC from SHREWSBURY

    16-Aug-2007

Absolutely top keyboard. Quieter than the old ones. Slimmer profile on the desk, easier and more comfortable to use being lower. f keys lose their functionality for pro apps but this is easily switched back in preferences. They will also not utilise their new functions (expose/ play etc) until you have done a software update after plugging it in.

If used through a hub there is not enough power to use the extra USB sockets on the keyboard for other things; iPod, Phone (well the ones I've tried anyway). Would have been better to leave the volume controls above the number pad but that's the only real gripe, oh and wish there was a full size wireless option instead of the stunted one which would be good if you use it on ya lap I guess.

    Pretty but dumb.

    Written by AC from PAISLEY

    17-Aug-2007

Ok, aesthetically this keyboard verges on beautiful and is whisper quiet.

On the downside however it lacks some of the functionality for pro apps users. Moving the volume/eject keys is a daft idea and I'd really hoped they'd go back to the old version of having finger spaces between every four function keys borders on infuriating. For Pro Tools I utilise F5 - F8 most and with the spaces can find these keys in my sleep and lose this ability here. And with the new low level smoothness of the keys it is much easier to mis-key.(and am I being a bit moany if I mention the tiny return key?).

Software update had to be installed before the new hot keys would work (make sure you try this rather than assuming it is broken) and it has little traction overall meaning it tends to slide about a bit.

The USB ports spoil the overall sleek look by being right at the edge so the wires stick right out the sides and if you're on a small surface, interfere with your mouse movement.

All said though it is a good solid keyboard, fantastically ergonomic and if you do a lot of touch typing then it will serve you well.

NIce, but Caps Lock key seems a little temperamental

Written by DN from ISLE OF MAN

    17-Aug-2007

Very sleek, and capable of handling very quick typing. I'm still getting used to the limited key travel, but I don't think it will be a problem.

The Caps Lock key, however, doesn't seem to work if I press it quickly. It only changes state if I press it quite deliberately. I suspect I've received a marginally faulty unit :-( I'd rate it higher, if it weren't for this problem.

I wish there were a wireless version with the numeric keypad.

Remember to download the keyboard software update

    Written by DS from Kirkwall

If you're buying this for an older mac, make sure you download the keyboard software update at Apple's support page, otherwise the dedicated keys won't work properly.

At last, a keyboard to match the ellegant design of my G5 and what a keyboard! Looks marvellous and works perfectly, so much better than the old clunky white one. My wife says that it is not so good for a touch typist but its fine for a four finger novice like me. All the new function keys work perfectly and the software update went on effortlessly. A must have for all G5 owners. Well done Apple.

    Beautiful! But....

    Written by KD from London

    19-Aug-2007

I just brought the wired keyboard. Its beautiful, and feels really good to type on.
It took me a while to figure out that I needed to download new software from apple to make the function keys work (hint hint to the review below this) but after that it was perfect. The music control keys are especially useful as I no longer have to switch apps if I want to change what I'm listening to.
My only complaint is that in system prefrences under the dashboard and expose tab, it still shows the old key assignments, also, there is now no obvious way to access the expose functions other than "show all windows" as there is no way to assign "show desktop" and "show application windows" to the other function keys.
Also, i think that a key for front row would have been nice.
    Sloppy on the software apple!
