Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
Absolute Brilliance
Written by JL from Barnstaple
20-Mar-2009
When these headphones were announced at the 2008 "Let's Rock" event, I feared that they would be not much different to the in ear headphones previously released; which are like the plastic cups on the end of a string which your friend would talk into at the other end.
I decided very recently to take the risk of purchasing them, even though I am a owner of Sony MDR-EX85 in ear & Skullcandy Hesh headphones. I was hoping in the end that it wouldn't be an expensive mistake that I would regret.
The day of getting them, they came in a fantastic box with the cool apple stickers we all love. The headphones themselves were breathtaking, the design was good and the quality was pure brilliance; much better than the ones I mentioned a bit earlier. I thought the bass was very good, unlike some reviewers (possibly needs a tiny bit more to be heavenly), and the other audio was very clear, crisp and a pleasure to listen to on my long journeys. They were also extremely comfortable; which is hard to come by in many headphones these day.
To summarize everything, the headphones are great, the quality is good, and the price is good for a pair of dual driver headphones. If you are a hard core iPodder like myself, these will fit the bill. It's also a plus for the iTouch and iNano users as the remote+mic are excellent and its great to control and use; it took me not long to take the remote + mic for granted. I highly recommend these headphones to anyone and if you only read a few reviews, make this one of them. Those who complain about them, obviously don't know how to wear them properly or work in a recording studio where they use £1000, headphones. I love these headphones so much, I don't use my other pairs much anymore.
Don't keep reading, get buying!!!

Use with foam tips to get the best sound
Written by AH from Radlett
20-Mar-2009
I bought these to use with an iPhone to replace a pair of Senheiser MM50s which had broken (again, actually the second pair). I also have the Vibe Duos and Ultimate Ears 4vi.
The apple in-ears are actually very good. Good base and bright treble - you will not need to use the EQ!
But, if like me you really cannot stand the rubber tips and all that fiddling to try and get a good fit, get yourself some complyfoam t-140 tips as they make these much more comfortable to put in, wear and make them sound brilliant.
Hope that helps.0 of 1 people found this useful

The white ends come of in your ear, i also lost the small speaker thing in my ear! - really badly designed seemingly all the parts fall off so Apple can make more money, normally an apple fan - but these headphones are bad.

I'll stick to Bose
Written by DP from Chorley

Got these from Apple store - wish I'd took them back. Rubbish. The original earphones are too big and fall out, they sound tinny and naff, The Ipod is only as good as the earphones you conect. These new in ear ones fit better but sound really naff. I have a pair of Bose which just fit me on the small polyurethane inserts and sound a whole lot better. C'mon Apple you make some really good sexy kit but let it all down with cheap nasty headphones.

Ambivalent!
Written by IB from LOUGHBOROUGH

I bought them as a replacement for the standard headphones. Had I been able to try them first I would NOT have bothered. It's great to be able to cycle without any wind-noise as I don't have to crank the volume up - but these 'phones don't have any base to speak of. Excellent in every other respect, but the lack of base is a big disappointment and my iPhone's equaliser won't make any appear.

Disappointing
Written by SF from Hassocks

I'm quite stunned that Apple can fall at the final hurdle like this. The design of these earphones is excellent but the sound is thin, bass-less and very poor. So disappointed that I took them back and insisted on a refund at my Apple store. They do not isolate the user, allowing plenty of outside noise.
I tried all the EQ settings. 'Rock' helped a bit, and I tried them with many different types of music. I tried pushing them in further. No use. I tried the different sized ear buds. No difference. They did sound a bit better when I cupped my hands over my ears but that's not very convenient!
Avoid. (And the volume control doesn't work on the 3G iPhone)49 of 66 people found this useful

Appalling

I got these earphones for Christmas 2008, I anticipated these earphones to be brillaint but they just wern't. The first time i used the new earphones,I was horrified to find out that they were shocking, pathetic low and high end frequency's, they'd fall out when walking (even though i tried every size ear bud provided, and i don't have large ears), the mulit-functional button, frequenly failed to work and finally the white cable, became faded and dirty within a matter of weeks.
This product is not worth the money and other earphones in the same price range proved much better!

Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
Very good value
Written by DW from Ely

My regular earphones for years have been Shure (SE530 right now) or Etymotic models. They get a lot of use so I wanted a cheaper set to use for running, etc. I don't like the bundled Apple earphones supplied with iPods and my iPhone so I read the reviews of these new ones with some trepidation. iLounge said they were ok, I like the remote control option (volume works with my 4G Nano but not iPhone 3G? Why not?), so took the plunge and have been very pleasantly surprised indeed. They don't have vast amounts of bass output (good) but have a well resolved stereo image and are the most comfortable 'phones I've ever used. Only time will tell whether they're as robust the Shures, but at a fraction of the price they're great. If you use high bit rate AAC encoding or, even better, Apple lossless, you'll really get the benefit of these. Recommended.

Possibly the biggest Apple product disappointment - ever
Written by JW from SALISBURY

Buy them - listen to them on your iphone, and immediately return them and get your money back. I cannot believe how tinny and hissy the sound is. There is no bass at all. Just don't bother. I cannot understand how anyone has reviewed the headphones and thought they were good.

Very Good Idea, But Absolutely Rubbish!
Written by AW from HADDINGTON

I believe in apple for making the effort, but com-on guys.
Its not hard in your la la cupertino office to think of headphones,
that fit more than 2% of the apple fan club!
I think its a good idea, but unless you have unusual ears don't buy.
And don't believe the BS about the two sound drivers they sound worse than the supplied earbuds. I would recommend Bose-In-Ear.14 of 15 people found this useful

Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
not good
Written by LT from LONDON
11-Mar-2009
How come people here are saying the sound quality is good? These phones are appallingly tinny and nothing like the old Sennhessiers I had for half the price. Despite what other people are saying, if you have an iPhone 3G the remote will ONLY pause tracks - so no skipping or volume control, which makes them useless. Don't do it.

Disappointment
Written by CJ from WARWICK
09-Mar-2009
Hello,
As all mac fans, I jumped on the opportunity to buy this product as soon as it came out.
For the first time with Apple, I had to go back to the shop only a couple of hours back (as soon as I could come out of the office) to return it.
Don't get me wrong, it blocks outside noise and the sound definition is much better than the original iPhone headphones but for me the problem was that I could hear my steps while walking and hear the rubbing of the cable against my scarf (please do not see anything sexual there ;-)) and I found it really annoying.
I am not sure it was a defect maybe just because of the fact that it blocks the outside noise so well...
I don't know but I thought I'd share my experience of it with you.

Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
Handsfree flawed, doesn't stay in-ear.
Written by BV from Stadhampton
07-Mar-2009
I've tried all three size settings, but the rubber appears to be too flimsy, and shortly after wedging them in my ears, they become loose. I don't think I've got weird ears, as my seinheiser headphones stay in fine.
The handsfree is flawed, because as I've discovered it's very difficult to have a conversation wearing what might as well be ear plugs. I can hear the other person and they can hear me, but it's just very off putting, as you can't hear your own voice properly. Try talking with your fingers in your ears.
The volume doesn't work with the iPhone, why not? What other apple product would you need a mic and a remote for? I had been warned about this from another review, so not too bothered, but just annoying on top of everything else.
Oh but the packaging was great! Whoopee! Yes I like good packaging, and normally with apple products the fancy packaging is the icing on the cake. But the when the product doesn't work, the packaging which you might as well throw away but don't because it's so pretty, is a big kick in the teeth, because you become very aware that you've paid for it.54 of 67 people found this useful

VERY POOR BUILD
Written by MT from falmouth
07-Mar-2009
I bought these after reading conflicting reviews, the sound is spot on but the build is very poor. The first set i had broke within a week of buying them, so i returned them and swapped them for a new pair. And they lasted no more than ten days until the same thing went wrong, in the right side the driver that deals with the highs just stopped working they never got knocked or had any abuse so i can only put it down to poor build. I have only given them three stars because when they did work the sound is clear and there is just the right amount bass. I have now got my money back and i am looking to purchase some sennheiser or sure, I would not recommend the apple to anyone because of the build.

I don't like them.. to hear them correctly all outside noise is cut out this I dont like... Sound not so goof for the price tag
I have to say these, and the headphones that come with an ipod (wont even stay in your ear)let the whole thing down. Apple can't you do better? The ipod is great the headsets need something better

Product could of been so much better
Written by MF from London
06-Mar-2009
Ok not the best sound out there compared to some of the other more expensive options - however better than the standard shipped headphones. For the love of God can not see why there is so many problems with the volume control - no iphone support for one!? After apple's previous remotes that always had problems i was hoping that this one would work better, it does but only slightly.
Overall i wish i had spent a bit more and bought another third party set.5 of 7 people found this useful

You could call them - a bit underpriced
Written by JG from Colchester

I had been used to the standard ear phones which come with the ipod and these in-ear ones are great, a huge difference. Much recommended, even though they are a bit pricey, the only ones which are better are those which are at least double the price.
