Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic

Written by PC from Whitchurch on Thames

I have read many reviews, as you have too I expect. There are objectors. Some are erudite, some are less so. Ignore them all. These are absolutely FAB. Sound quality is very good. They feel fine and the sound is great. They DO NOT fall out of my ears. The mic works perfectly. My iPod touch is now a wireless iPhone. Thank you Skype!

    Really Happy!!

    Written by MR from TELFORD

Strong tight bass and real clarity in the treble.

I've had no problems with either the fit or lack of bass that others have mentioned, however, I use foam earplugs everyday at work so maybe I'm inserting these a little further than most would be comfortable with but for me they sound awesome!

I'm re-discovering my music all over again. :)

    Hugely disappointing

    Written by CF from Guildford

    30-Mar-2009

I like the earbuds that came with my iPhone 3G, they sound perfectly fine and I love the multi-clicker functionality and the built in mic. So for me the prospect of this plus, better sound/noise canceling and added volume controls on the Apple in ear jobs was a very appealing prospect.

However the reality is that these headphones don't sound better than the normal earbuds at all, the sound quality is lackluster, poor bass response and generally a bit wooly in the midrange. I have tried all the sizes of caps and they fit in my ears just fine they just frankly sound rubbish. Also the volume functionality doesn't work with iPhone, which put an abrupt end to that benefit.

So what I feel I've ended up with is a £54 pair of headphones that offer no extra functionality and are worse sounding than the free ones I got with the iPhone, which I could replace for £19. I was prepared not to be blown away by them, after all the £54 price tag is very competitive compared to the competition but I'm honestly surprised at how mediocre/poor these headphones are.

    Poor in the Gym

    Written by MS from Bangor

    30-Mar-2009

Bought these headphones for the new shuffle as I don't get on with the supplied set.
As soon as you begin to perspire you will render these headphones useless, as they seem to be very vunerable to moisture, as do the supplied headphones with the shuffle.
Best avoided if you intend to use these in the Gym.

Great bass but packaged silicon buds don't seal well

    Written by SA from glasgow

    30-Mar-2009

These phones are actually very good - great bass and fantastic depth

BUT - as the supplied silicon buds just don't seal properly you'd never know
Shove a set of shure foam buds over the ends instead (they are a squeeze but they will fit) and you will actually hear how good these are

With the supplied buds there's hardly any bass at all and they sound pretty bright and lack depth

    Excellent but.....

    Written by GT

    27-Mar-2009

The sound quality, build quality and comfort of these headphones are all first class and they represent excellent value for money. However......don't whatever you do lose one of the silicon inserts. You cannot buy replacements - Applestores do not stock them and they are not available on-line. Come on Apple. People are bound to lose these little parts from time to time and shouldn't have to put up with having to wear the wrong size of insert just because Apple won't sell replacements.

Love Apple, but this product isn't near the quality promised. Sennheiser's version of the iPhone/iPod headset delivers better and more filling sound, as well the remote doesn't work on iPhone :(

    irreplaceable earbuds...

    Written by AS from Hook

    26-Mar-2009

Bought these early January of this year and am generally very pleased with them - sound quality is great, and the little remote works really well for when you have hands full and can't necessarily take the iPod out of your pocket/bag to change a track etc. BUT, over the past few weeks, the earbuds have started to fall off while in my bag, and just today, when getting my iPod (and attached headphones) out of my bag whilst walking to lectures, one of them fell off, never to be found again.
Small, medium and large sized earbuds are provided, but only the small size fits in my ears, and now I can't find anywhere that will sell replacement sets. Absolutely gutted, as my only option seems to be to buy a new set of headphones altogether, which at 50 odd quid a pop, doesn't quite seem worth it somehow.

    Don't bother

    Written by CL from Leicester

    22-Mar-2009

I have been using in- ear headphones for about 4 years and have to say that these headphones are mediocre at best.

The bass is too quiet (as is the rest of the sound) and you hear a horrible rustling sound in your ear everytime you move around wearing these. Before other customers say that I must be using the wrong size ear tips, I have tried all 3 and I have not had problems with in- ear headphones in the past.

For £54 much better headphones are available and I do not recommend these as the only worthwhile feature seems to be the in line remote, which is the reason I gave this product 2 stars rather than 1.

I was using some 8hz to 22khz in ear headphones with my iPhone but missed having the controls and mic. These new headphones are better than the ones I had and I get the controls too. Even seems less noise from my footsteps with these :) volume buttons don't work with the iphone but the controls do work as the originals did. Nice clear thumps from the bass and beautiful crystal clear sound from the trebles.

    Absolute Brilliance

    Written by JL from Barnstaple

    20-Mar-2009

When these headphones were announced at the 2008 "Let's Rock" event, I feared that they would be not much different to the in ear headphones previously released; which are like the plastic cups on the end of a string which your friend would talk into at the other end.

I decided very recently to take the risk of purchasing them, even though I am a owner of Sony MDR-EX85 in ear & Skullcandy Hesh headphones. I was hoping in the end that it wouldn't be an expensive mistake that I would regret.

The day of getting them, they came in a fantastic box with the cool apple stickers we all love. The headphones themselves were breathtaking, the design was good and the quality was pure brilliance; much better than the ones I mentioned a bit earlier. I thought the bass was very good, unlike some reviewers (possibly needs a tiny bit more to be heavenly), and the other audio was very clear, crisp and a pleasure to listen to on my long journeys. They were also extremely comfortable; which is hard to come by in many headphones these day.

To summarize everything, the headphones are great, the quality is good, and the price is good for a pair of dual driver headphones. If you are a hard core iPodder like myself, these will fit the bill. It's also a plus for the iTouch and iNano users as the remote+mic are excellent and its great to control and use; it took me not long to take the remote + mic for granted. I highly recommend these headphones to anyone and if you only read a few reviews, make this one of them. Those who complain about them, obviously don't know how to wear them properly or work in a recording studio where they use £1000, headphones. I love these headphones so much, I don't use my other pairs much anymore.

    Don't keep reading, get buying!!!

Use with foam tips to get the best sound

    Written by AH from Radlett

    20-Mar-2009

I bought these to use with an iPhone to replace a pair of Senheiser MM50s which had broken (again, actually the second pair). I also have the Vibe Duos and Ultimate Ears 4vi.
The apple in-ears are actually very good. Good base and bright treble - you will not need to use the EQ!
But, if like me you really cannot stand the rubber tips and all that fiddling to try and get a good fit, get yourself some complyfoam t-140 tips as they make these much more comfortable to put in, wear and make them sound brilliant.
    Hope that helps.

The white ends come of in your ear, i also lost the small speaker thing in my ear! - really badly designed seemingly all the parts fall off so Apple can make more money, normally an apple fan - but these headphones are bad.

    I'll stick to Bose

    Written by DP from Chorley

Got these from Apple store - wish I'd took them back. Rubbish. The original earphones are too big and fall out, they sound tinny and naff, The Ipod is only as good as the earphones you conect. These new in ear ones fit better but sound really naff. I have a pair of Bose which just fit me on the small polyurethane inserts and sound a whole lot better. C'mon Apple you make some really good sexy kit but let it all down with cheap nasty headphones.

    Ambivalent!

    Written by IB from LOUGHBOROUGH

I bought them as a replacement for the standard headphones. Had I been able to try them first I would NOT have bothered. It's great to be able to cycle without any wind-noise as I don't have to crank the volume up - but these 'phones don't have any base to speak of. Excellent in every other respect, but the lack of base is a big disappointment and my iPhone's equaliser won't make any appear.

    Disappointing

    Written by SF from Hassocks

    18-Mar-2009

I'm quite stunned that Apple can fall at the final hurdle like this. The design of these earphones is excellent but the sound is thin, bass-less and very poor. So disappointed that I took them back and insisted on a refund at my Apple store. They do not isolate the user, allowing plenty of outside noise.
I tried all the EQ settings. 'Rock' helped a bit, and I tried them with many different types of music. I tried pushing them in further. No use. I tried the different sized ear buds. No difference. They did sound a bit better when I cupped my hands over my ears but that's not very convenient!
Avoid. (And the volume control doesn't work on the 3G iPhone)

    Appalling

    Written by TP

I got these earphones for Christmas 2008, I anticipated these earphones to be brillaint but they just wern't. The first time i used the new earphones,I was horrified to find out that they were shocking, pathetic low and high end frequency's, they'd fall out when walking (even though i tried every size ear bud provided, and i don't have large ears), the mulit-functional button, frequenly failed to work and finally the white cable, became faded and dirty within a matter of weeks.

This product is not worth the money and other earphones in the same price range proved much better!
