    81 eighty one? EIGHTY ONE!

    • Written by from Glasgow

After 81 charge cycles I had one of these replacements die on me. More than £1/per charge cycle.

The original lasted, from release day, to autumn 2011. The replacement barely made it to the following summer...

Purchased this battery at the end of January this year...after only 7 cycles the battery is dead and won't hold any charge at all....took it back to the Apple store only to be offered another battery for a reduced price of £80....as an avid fan of Apple products I am deeply disappointed!!!

Each one of these batteries I have owned has lasted no more than six months with the most recent one swelling and making the click below the trackpad unable to be pressed down. I had a sony laptop which never had that problem until someone spilt a pint of water over it.. now my cheapest option is to try and find a battery to get my mac back to life, apple can you sort this product out and make a battery that actually works? i do charge and drain by battery and never leave it constantly plugged in but it has made no difference to me. at the moment i have ten seconds battery life MAX.

Want to turn your laptop into a desktop?

    • Written by from Isleworth

The first battery I had for my Macbook failed quickly enough for me to get a replacement through apple care (lucky).
My second battery is now dying after only 600 cycles. I can power my laptop for just over an hour if I'm just typing, but if working with music or video... maybe half an hour to 45 minutes? Not useful to take anywhere without a power cable.

It is sad because the machine (MacBook) is fantastic but let down by the fact that you will end up spending £300+ purely on replacement batteries over the next few years of the laptop's life.

    Really not impressed

    • Written by from reading

I am so fed up of this problem. I am now about to get my 3rd battery (black 13inch mac not sure if relevant).
As I am now out of apple care I am going to have to fork out £100 for a useless product that I know will die well before supposed lesser quality notebooks.
    This is beyond a joke.
As for other reviews that say the problems are from misuse or not properly looking after the battery. I have followed apple's advice to a T and still am faced with the same problem.
The battery works fine, shows no signs of giving up, I run the battery flat one day, go to charge and nothing!!!
This is so frustrating. If I had wanted a computer that had to stay plugged in, I would have bought a desk top.
Apple you MUST fix this problem before charging extortionate prices for your batteries.

Have a Mac Book (black), original battery worked fine, but as with all batteries, life came to an end.Purchased new battery April 2010, and now one year battery has died (only 70 cycles). This is not what I expect or deserve from a company like Apple.

Terrible Performance and Terrible Warranty Cover

    • Written by from LONDON

As it says on the tin. Apple refuse to replace my battery because 300 charge cycles is all you get and its a consumable. Thats very poor it seems with the advent of constant updates. I strangely had a firmware update on the SMC. A battery is an integral part of a laptop and as the magsafe adaptors pull out so easily going without one is not an option.
    Very poor

    Poor Battery

    • Written by from Manchester

Initially, the battery life was great, 5 hours long every charge. Unfortunately, despite being well within the recharge lifetime of the battey, it stopped charging and I now have to either keep it plugged in (hoping I don't accidentally pull the plug out, which happens a LOT due to magsafe), or fork out £70-90 for a new one. Quite frankly, this is poor.

    poor compared to Dell

    • Written by from PUDSEY

I have a Dell Laptop for work and a MacBook for home. The Dell sits on the desk mostly with the power adaptor plugged in 8 hours a day for 2 weeks per month, the other 2 weeks it is out of the office, fully drained daily & charged in the eveneing. The battery still lasts a full 3 hours.
The MacBook on the other hand gets used evenings and weekends and until recently was powered up for generally 1/2 that time. Now the battery lasts less than 20 minutes. Even on a full charge at night & left turned off during the day, the battery has lost charge to 'one led'.
To my mind the Mac has had an easy life compared to the Dell. I shouldn't be in the position of having to pay £99 for a new battery, especially when it looks like it will fail in such a short time.
I'm shocked by the number of bad reviews. I hope Apple get a grip. The products are lovely, but they are clearly losing the faith of their customers. Makes me think twice about getting an Iphone.

    Battle of the Bulge!

    • Written by from Loughton

Suffering from a lack of charge and powering off, it's been getting progressively hotter whilst charging, the mains adapter also very warm indeed!

It's bulged so much now it's affecting the touch pad mouse click and the bottom plate has separated from the battery! Removed it now running on just the adapter, in the interests of safety!

Smashed it up in a fit of frustration and stuck it in the bin, not impressed!! Not experienced this on previous models!!!

Only to sit on the phone for 30 mins for apple to tell me it is out of warranty.
Battery life is superb but when the longevity is so poor...makes me wonder about upgrading with a macbook!

    Apple's worst ever product?

    • Written by from Bideford

338 cycles and the battery is stone cold dead. Why, because it was left on with not enough power. Since then, it will not accept any charge. Not good enough. Appalling quality and another sign that Apple products are becoming shoddy and uncompetetive. Replying on looks and software usability is not enough. There needs to be hardware reliability too - something sadly lacking on the MacBook.

136 cycles and the battery will not charge anymore. Apple should replace all faulty batteries and not expect the consumer to fork out £100 every year. Obviously this is not an isolated case from looking at the other reviews here.

These batteries are useless, my computer is only a year and a half old, and already I have had three new batteries, and at £100 each that is ridiculous! I phoned up Apple Customer Care, where the man was not understanding of the problem and simply told me how apple would not replace the batter, if i had known i would have had this trouble i would have avoided the computer and gone for a Sony Vaio. Avoid having all this inconvenience every six months!!

    Poor Battery Performance

    • Written by from Salisbury

I agree with all reviews here giving 1 star. It is not even worth that. I have spent thousands on Apple products, and this is the first time they have disappointed. My battery has only done just over 200 cycles and now they tell me I have to buy a new one because it is out of warranty. When you spend £1000 on a laptop you do not expect the battery to take only 200 cycles. Sort this out Apple, from reading these reviews this is not an isolated problem.

    • Written by from WALLINGFORD

Lasted 18 months. According to Apple, that's unfortunate but these things happen, I just have to fork out a hundred quid for another one. Sorry Apple, but tell me why you think that kind of product deserves more than one star?

    Mac Duff

    • Written by from london

I expect my battery life to be up there with the cost of a premium machine - not die a year after purchase and be over costly to replace.

Along with the new screwy interface on mac.com / me mail that clearly appeals to children I am quickly souring regarding all things mac.
