Possibly the worst spend of money ever?

    • Written by from Newbury

Given Apple's usual attention to detail these batteries are possibly the greatest oversight in their product range. They are useless. I'm on my second (both bought in store), and the latest one won't charge at all (sat at 0%) after just under 2 years. At least the first two (the original and first replacement) made 3 years a piece, but they seem to be getting worse. A friend bought a copy battery off of one of the large 'auction' sites (which I berated him for!) and his has outlasted mine which about sums up the ownership experience, whose laughing now?!. Given my latest gen MBP 13" battery is asonishingly good I just don't get what the score is with these units, but they should by now be about £50 each rather than >£100 each given the woeful lifetime and performance vs. newer kit. Shame on you Apple, an absolutely terrible product, I won't buy another out of principle, so it's AC cord from now on.

    Just terrible!

    • Written by from MAGHERAFELT

Don't even bothering getting this one and also don't even think that £109 price tag suggests that it is top quality battery. Far from it!

Bought this battery from Apple store. 2 1/2 years later and only 155 charge cycle, I got 'Service Battery' warning! Apple support said you have to baby-sit and bottle-fed this battery to ensure that this very, very fragile battery has a good life! Unlike the cheap PC laptop batteries that were abused yet last very well??!

Just stay away from it and you couldn't go much wrong with buying a cheap 3rd party battery.

Swollen and unusable in less than 60 cycles

    • Written by from ILFORD

Battery dangerously swollen after only moderate use. Brought from an Apple Store a while back to breathe some life into an old MBP. Went to use the machine recently and was greeted with a warning message to immediately replace the battery.

Consider buying a 3rd party battery instead, this official one is clearly not up to par despite its price.

    Replacement battery

    • Written by from BOURNEMOUTH

Bought a full priced battery for macbook pro 1year 1month ago, completely dead.
Apple shop checked it out and said yes it was no good. Only done 82 cycles, only ever used as recommended by Apple. Verdict - you have to purchase another one. I expect a battery costing £101.00 to last longer than this, my car battery has and this gets a lot more abuse and costs less. Is this just another Apple rip off.

Very poor battery ... specially compared to the quality of the Mac PRO

    • Written by from Bernex

I have had my Macbook Pro since 2006 and the first battery was good for a year, then I did not have a need for it for a while but when I did, I was surprised to be asked for CHf 199 (apx. £ 135) when buying it in Switzerland where I am for work.
Money robbed really ... my new battery lasted for a year then begun giving me problems until now, not even 2 years after purchase, when it shuts my laptop down showing 90% charge, without a warning.
Apple should do something about this fast ... lower the prices for a battery to start with !!!!

Terrible product that Apple never tried to rectify

    • Written by from London

I hate that I have to keep buying these batteries. I'm now about to go out and buy my fourth one in shade under five years. The first two lasted about a year and were replaced under warranty. The third was at 70% capacity, 80 cycles and draining in about 90 minutes after a year, and one of the "Geniuses" at the Apple Store tried to tell me that is normal for a laptop battery of that age (why does my old work Dell M60 from 2004 last this long with original battery, and the same for the newer M6300 bought in 2008? Dell is supposed to be cheap and lowest common denominator, and Apple a premium brand.)

Just came home from holiday to find the third battery had the dreaded expansion problem. The mouse button below the touchpad wasn't clicking because if the pressure squeezing up from the battery. Thank goodness it didn't do any real damage.

Poor quality and very short life

    • Written by from London

I bought a Mac Book pro back in 2006. Although the original battery lasted 3 years without failing it declined in cable free power rapidly. The replacement batteries (now on my second) seem to be even worse quality with neither of the two replacements lasting even 12 months. Feels like built in obsolescence

Worst Apple Product I have ever bought

    • Written by from London

I am forced for the third time to buy a GBP100 replacement battery for my MacBook Pro. The last battery lasted not even one year! When I read all the reviews I can't understand why Apple hasn't addressed this problem.

BatteryLife-hey Apple is this the way you became the most valuable company?

    • Written by from BROOKLYN

Bought my macbook pro in January 2010. I have been careful about the use of its battery believing that it will live long. Big Joke! It only lasts 34 minutes and now i have to spend 100 sterling pounds to replace it. My laptop has no such a problem. It is already 5 years old and the battery lasts 3 hours. Very big disappointment, Apple

    Battery dead

    • Written by from London

It is quite disappointing that I had to replace the battery in 2010 on my Macbook Pro 15 inch laptop purchased in 2007 - only to find that I have to replace it again in 2012 - the machine works fine under power supply, but goes black within a minute of unplugging it - this is going to cost me another £100. Why is this happening?

    Disappointing Battery Life

    • Written by from Skipton

I have had my MacBook Pro for 3 years and am disappointed that I am now having to pay £101 for a new battery. Surely Apple can improve the battery life and also market the replacements at a much more reasonable price.
Come on Apple, take notice of the many comments that are being received regarding the poor battery life on all your MacBooks. Can't you recognise that you have a problem in the market place.

    Disappointing Apple Product

    • Written by from Brighouse

Unfortunately I can not recommend this Apple product. After the first battery swelled up I bought another genuine apple battery for my Macbook Pro. One year later this too is swelling up and now shows 'Not Charging' therefore is faulty. Not good when you spend over £1500 on a laptop and £100 just for the battery !!

These really are as bad as people say, very displeased

    • Written by from London

The stock battery in my Macbook Pro lasted a reasonable length of time - though half of that was with very reduced capacity. The £100 replacement I bought just over a year ago has charged just 58 times and is now completely dead! Apple Store won't replace it as it's just over a year old.

This was the second battery I bought for this MacBook pro. Battery is only 11 month old and only 67 times cycled and indicating 10% health. This is bad and cost 140 euro! I will not by another one again.

    Same story: Battery blows!

    • Written by from Copenhagen NV

Paid >1000 DKK (equiv. to 200 USD) for a replacement battery some 16 months ago - and now down to 55% charge. I started getting the "Service battery" notification after just 6 mo of use :/

These batteries should be replaced free of charge, especially considering that my MBP cost me 4000 USD...

    Rip Off....

    • Written by from oldham

I got my macbook pro about 2 years ago, About one year in the battery busted and "expanded" the case on the bottom swelled up and broke the battery casing. The trackpad now doesnt even work.

I have to use my mac with the power cord and mouse/keyboard plugged in.

I have 2 other laptops less than £300 quid each they lasted twice the age of macbook with 0 errors and they run on windows!!!

I could buy 3 laptops for the price of this macbook... with the same specs...
