    Battery Replaced Free

    • Written by from Marlborough

My battery has been giving problems for ages so today I went to my nearest Apple Store. On checking my battery they agreed to replace it free of charge. My MacbookPro is 4 months out of warranty but I do have AppleCare. I was told that batteries are not covered by AppleCare as they are an expendable item but they still replaced it for free.

2** for the battery, 5***** for Apple

    Macbook Pro battery losing power

    • Written by

My MacBook Pro is only 9 months old and for the last 2 months I have had reducing battery life. I was looking to buy a new one but thought I would check the reviews first which is where I clocked the Apple Support route and hey presto - after a few checks I am being sent a replacement under warranty.

    Sort it out Apple

    • Written by from LONDON

I too cannot work on my MBP unless it is connected into the mains..

Its only just ran out of warranty and already I have to fork out another 100 quid?

sort this problem out Apple, redesign it, and replace all these old ones that clearly aren't up to the job.

Apple dont loose it. Your batteries are not good enough!

    • Written by from Roende

I have had my battery from new for 370 days and its now running at 31% health.
This is poor hardware and it nags me dearly to have to spend so much on poor quality.
Dear Apple, does this not nag you as well!

    Battery Losing Power

    • Written by from LONDON

I am in my first year of Apple Care, my 15'' MacBook Pro is 2 years old. Battery shows 50% health after 248 cycles, losing life rapidly. I phoned Apple today, they did some tests with me over the phone and are sending me a new one, which I obviously don't have to pay for. Simple.

    Great Laptop....Poor Battery

    • Written by from SUNDERLAND

Its such a shame that for one of the best pro laptops made in the last 5 five years the battery is so poor. Its hardly surprising though, the MBpro gives out so much heat the battery has no chance!!

    Another year, another battery

    • Written by from FARNBOROUGH

Macs are always me weapon of choice, but seriously apple, start putting some decent sodding batteries in your stuff... I'm sick of coughing up £100 a year to keep my laptops going.
As an IT tech, I repair a lot of laptops, and I see plenty of laptops several years older, still going strong on their first battery.
My Power Book was the same, now my MacBook Pro suffers the same poor batteries.

    Apple your batteries are rubbish!

    • Written by from Southampton

I just wanted to add to everybody else's reviews of this particular battery that it is as rubbish as we are all saying! I've had my pro book since Feb 07, within 3 months i had to take the laptop back to the store and have a new battery replacement because of the problem of the batteries warping in their cases. Since then I cannot have the laptop on my lap due to the amount of heat that radiates from the underside of my machine. Before anyone says, yes i know they get hot but not to the point where its physically hot enough to burn you. Its been 15 months since i had the second battery and i can now not use my laptop without it plugged into the mains. If i do have it unplugged im getting 45 mins max use before it just switches off, i get no warning that it will shut down, it just dies. Apple please do something about this problem, your instructions on how to look after the battery does not apply as it makes not the slightest difference!! looks like i will have to go back to the store and spend another £99.00. Not amused. Its a ripoff.

    • Written by from ferndown

im on my second MBP now but my original S1 had a replacement battery about 14 months ago and by the time my new MBP arrived this moring it held about 10 minutes of charge, buy a cheap non apple battery, it would struggle to be worse and you can get 3 for the price of one from apple. dont know why apple cant work with batteries, all the ipods(all since second gen) ive had where useless after a year, and now laptops, get a apple laptop and a dell battery :)

    battery burnout

    • Written by from London

obeyed the rules. cycled, calibrated. talked to the thing and nothing has worked. A replacement battery less than 18 months old and if I'm lucky I get 10 minutes charge whilst the battery life information tells me I have two hours!!! So where do I go to get something done about this. No good demanding action in reviews cos it ain't 'appenin. Fuming.

    Redressing the balance

    • Written by from LONDON

I own two Macbook Pros and have several spare batteries. I've never had a problem with any of them. So not everyone has the same experience as some of the other rather dismal reviews on this page. I am very happy with this product.

    a flawed product

    • Written by from LEWES

I had two replacement batteries in the first year. Luckily they were under warranty. Now I find after less than a year after that the third one seems to be going the same way. As other users have reported, sudden power failures, erratic time/percentage display. I have always done what Apple suggest, charge it up, run it down etc. The computer is great but the batteries are rubbish frankly.

i have had 3 dead batteries - i keep on buying them because i have no choice (short of throwing my macbook pro out) - they keep on failing - i dont understand why apple does not do something about this appaling issue.

Same unacceptable experience as other reviewers

    • Written by from Manchester

My MacBook is about 15 months old and recently cuts of all power with no warning (losing unsaved work) after less than an hour. Apple should still be remedying the fact that such a dire fault is happening to so many of this model - it's not as if the battery's 3 years old and many are complaining it's happening after a few months of use!

    Apple - act now!

    Battery death

    • Written by from Los Angeles

My Macbook pro battery is about 1 year old, has done a good 400 cycles but just recently halved it's time from over 2 hours to about 1 hour. Not covered by my Applecare protection plan apparently which I did not realise when I got it.

    Battery care

    • Written by from Chilwell

My MacBook is now 2 years old, battery health down at 34% and it lasts half an hour tops with little warning before shutdown. So I can confirm the other posters in terms of battery life.

However, the batteries are (AFAIK) manufactured by Sony who also produce batteries for HP, Dell, etc., so it's unlikely to be an Apple manufacturing problem. The main difference between Apple and PC notebooks is the popular Apple sleep mode, which keeps the battery constantly working (the RAM's still powered) which shortens its life. I killed mine by disconnecting it from power over night which discharges it a few percent and then recharges that little amount of energy. If you let it sleep, then keep it connected (and hope for no explosions...).

So keep that in mind when you often use sleep mode, maybe Google for some more insight. ;-)

    Bad Battery

    • Written by from SWANSEA

My MBP 15" is 12 months old now and the battery life is about an hour.
Although the battery cycle count only shows 164 cycles (supposed to last 300 cycles)
and the charge retained is only 45% of the original. and new battery costs £99.

    Failing battery

    • Written by from EDINBURGH

Like so many people on this site, I have to report that the battery on my 18 month old MacBook Pro is failing. It has never lasted more than two hours even when brand new, and now cuts out after approximately 20-30 minutes from a full charge, often without warning. Otherwise I've had no problems with my Mackbook, but I'm terribly disappointed with the poor quality battery.
