    Battery dead

    • Written by from London

It is quite disappointing that I had to replace the battery in 2010 on my Macbook Pro 15 inch laptop purchased in 2007 - only to find that I have to replace it again in 2012 - the machine works fine under power supply, but goes black within a minute of unplugging it - this is going to cost me another £100. Why is this happening?

    Disappointing Battery Life

    • Written by from Skipton

I have had my MacBook Pro for 3 years and am disappointed that I am now having to pay £101 for a new battery. Surely Apple can improve the battery life and also market the replacements at a much more reasonable price.
Come on Apple, take notice of the many comments that are being received regarding the poor battery life on all your MacBooks. Can't you recognise that you have a problem in the market place.

    Disappointing Apple Product

    • Written by from Brighouse

Unfortunately I can not recommend this Apple product. After the first battery swelled up I bought another genuine apple battery for my Macbook Pro. One year later this too is swelling up and now shows 'Not Charging' therefore is faulty. Not good when you spend over £1500 on a laptop and £100 just for the battery !!

These really are as bad as people say, very displeased

    • Written by from London

The stock battery in my Macbook Pro lasted a reasonable length of time - though half of that was with very reduced capacity. The £100 replacement I bought just over a year ago has charged just 58 times and is now completely dead! Apple Store won't replace it as it's just over a year old.

    Bad Quality!

    • Written by from Dublin

This was the second battery I bought for this MacBook pro. Battery is only 11 month old and only 67 times cycled and indicating 10% health. This is bad and cost 140 euro! I will not by another one again.

    Same story: Battery blows!

    • Written by from Copenhagen NV

Paid >1000 DKK (equiv. to 200 USD) for a replacement battery some 16 months ago - and now down to 55% charge. I started getting the "Service battery" notification after just 6 mo of use :/

These batteries should be replaced free of charge, especially considering that my MBP cost me 4000 USD...

    Rip Off....

    • Written by from oldham

I got my macbook pro about 2 years ago, About one year in the battery busted and "expanded" the case on the bottom swelled up and broke the battery casing. The trackpad now doesnt even work.

I have to use my mac with the power cord and mouse/keyboard plugged in.

I have 2 other laptops less than £300 quid each they lasted twice the age of macbook with 0 errors and they run on windows!!!

I could buy 3 laptops for the price of this macbook... with the same specs...

    Unsurprisingly, shockingly bad

    • Written by from London

In common with 95% of other reviewers, I have found this battery to be an unmitigated waste of money. It has lasted 7 months. I was fully aware of how bad this battery was supposed to be, but having tried to find an alternative (I did - the fit was so poor it lifted the MacBook Pro up by half an inch), I bought it anyway as I had no choice. It's total - TOTAL - ****. Perhaps Apple might consider thinking of getting an alternative supplier, please. Please?

    Poor battery life

    • Written by from STOCKTON-ON-TEES

I bought a new Macbook six months ago and since 'upgrading' to Lion my battery life has dropped from 6-7 hours to 2.5hrs. Beware, I am not the only one, see the support and communities pages. Stay clear until (or if) Apple fix this.

1 star because NO stars is not an option.

Totally awful quality of batteries letting down a premium product.
Like everyone else, I need to be tethered to my charger to work.
We have two Mac Book Pro's here, and I bought a spare battery at purchase time with the first. All three batteries need replacement according to the battery monitor.
I have calibrated them regularly according to the instructions on the apple help menu. All to no avail.
It is about time Apple sorted this issue out.
£101 for a new battery (and I need two) is appalling!

    A disgrace!

    • Written by from Charlottenlund

My currently installed battery is #2 and this is even worse than #1! It looses power extremely fast - even if I dim the display all the way down, close all programs running in the background AND disable Bluetooth. I've had way too many instances where my MBP suddenly shuts down without any warning.

Too bad another battery isn't an option...

    Awful Battery

Paid £100 for this battery and it lasted 8 months. I also had no warning it was going to expire and lost work because my MacBook just switched off.

Firstly, I love my Macbook Pro but after about 6 months the battery suddenly went "weak". Surely after spending close to £2000 I shouldn't have to charge my battery after just half an hours use and why should have to spend over £100 on a new battery every 6 months!?. I basically have to keep it plugged into the mains most of the time it's switched on! Come on Apple you can do it!

    Poor performance

    • Written by from Sao Jose dos Campos

I just had to replace my battery with a new one. The first one didn't handle 40 cycles and lasted for less than a year. The new one is performing fine for now, but it's only been a couple of months. Too bad I can't work without the battery (I perform live with the computer), otherwise I don't think I'd buy it for the price they ask.

    760+ cycles later!!

    • Written by from BASINGSTOKE

After 4 years of having my MacBook Pro my battery has finally died! When I first got the MacBook the life of the battery was very very good but towards the end of it's life it got worse and worse but wouldn't expect anything else. Took my MacBook to the new apple store in Basingstoke, Hampshire and got it checked out, I was told the batteries usually last for about 300 cycles and I was told I had done over 760 cycles!!! The only problem with product is the price.

    Several years of good use

    • Written by from Tunbridge Wells

I have just started having trouble with my battery and the System Profiler says the health of the batter is poor. But it has done 707 cycles and from the look of the other people posting on these reviews, this is pretty good. I have had the computer for about four years and have used it very heavily for the last two years as it is now my only computer and runs for at about 8 hours a day. I may find my next battery is as bad as those spoken about here by others, but I hope not and I just wanted to add a very positive review amongst all the doom and gloom. Not all batteries for MacBook Pros are bad news. I would love to hear what is the best practice for keeping a battery in good condition. I run mine until I get a warning that it needs plugging in, then I power up till fully charged, then I remove the cable. Is that good practice? Or have I just been very lucky!
