    Well worth the money

    • Written by

I invested in these because I listen to music on my iPhone all the time and spend lots of time on Skype so earbuds with a remote really appealed, I have some RHA headphones with great sound quality that I've had for years so I figured these would be worth the money.

The sound is fantastic, really natural and really clear. I listen to all kinds of music, from classical to hip hop and everything sounds great and just seems to sound like it’s meant to. These sound far better than my boyfriends Beats which cost more than twice as much. In particular, I think vocal sound really rich, almost like live recordings and I’ve heard little details on tracks I’d never heard before.

I also find the microphone really responsive; I don’t have to hold it close to my mouth to be heard clearly. The remote works well and seems sturdy. Generally, these earbuds seems much more expensive than their price suggests; they’ve got a nice fabric cable, are made of metal and come with spare tips and a little bag.

I've previously had problems getting headphones that fit well, so I loved that these came with lots of tips sizes. I like to listen to music when I’m writing and I can wear these all day without getting sore. They also block noise really well - I used them on a train yesterday to protect against a screaming baby and I could barely hear anything except my music, which was fantastic and I would’ve given them a five star review for that alone.

All in all, these are great. I could have paid a lot more for these and I would still think they were really good value and high quality. Highly recommended.

I don’t think I would have heard of RHA if not for my friend who owns a set, but I’m glad I took a punt on the MA450i, as they’re a really, really good set of headphones.

The sound of the MA450i is incredibly clean and natural. The level of detail in music is remarkable, everything seems very well balanced. They seem able to handle all sorts of genres of music very well. Noise isolation is excellent thanks to the abundance of tips bundled with the headphones.

The build quality is good, the earbuds being made out of solid aluminium. The cable is fabric-wrapped and I don’t know whether it’s really ‘tangle-proof’ but I prefer the texture and it seems a bit more robust than the normal flimsy rubber cable.

The two-tone tips with hints of orange look really smart when they’re not in the ear. The aluminium buds have a high-gloss finish which looks great.

The remote is excellent. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and iPod Nano and the remote and mic work well with both, especially as a handsfree kit. I was also pleasantly surprised to find they worked with my MacBook and iTunes/Skype.

The buds come with a velour bag, and a box with six additional pairs of tips. Another bonus is that the buds come with a three year guarantee. This is impressive as I don’t think I’ve ever owned a pair for three years without something going wrong.

I’m very pleased with this purchase. Having tested them at the gym and at work, I would absolutely recommend them to anyone. The MA450i cover so many different bases and do them all very, very well. Definitely give them a try if you’re looking for excellent sound, build and comfort quality at an affordable price.

    Clear, crisp well defined audio

    • Written by from Gateshead

Have been after a decent set of headphones that wouldn't break the bank or look cheap.

Got these and I have to say, even 3/4 cranked up there is no distortion and sound remains perfectly clear. You do get a bit of the stethescope effect whilst no music id playing with the cord rubbing off your clothes however this stops when the music starts.

If you want a good looking, well-built set of headphones on a budget, stop looking. You just found them.

I was waiting for these to be out, since i bought the CA200 last christmas. RHA is not as big as most other manufacturer but trust me these are at least as good as the big brand ones!

Read the other reviews for more details :)

    Amazing Quality

I am very satisfied as they provide me with good clean and powerful bass. They are also very comfortable easy maintained. You get your own cloth which helps in keeping them good. And the most important thing is microphone and sound/pause/play buttons for which you don't need to control music while cycling running or whatever reason.

    I just love it.

    Intentionally designed excellence

Rarely would I spend an evening writing a review on a product, only when I had something worth sharing. These little earphones are the new sensational units from RHA. They exist in a price range that one might imaging is way below top-end earphones but somehow RHA have delivered awesome quality of sound for a modest price, packing such quality of build and sound into these little buds that they genuinely are worth the five stars.

The phones arrived bang on time as promised within 2 working days of order. The packaging is unique. How many times have you cursed the waste (not to say the challenge) of plastic show cases. Not so here. An understated, eco-friendly card box simply with a set of earphones inside. Sweet!

The phones are solidly and robustly engineered as individual aluminium units which makes them wonderfully resilient in use. They are are comfortable - I have them in my ears now and I am already easily forgetting they are there. Lightweight, snag free cable and gold 3.5mm jack - A snug, sound-tight fit in each ear. I use the medium size that came on the buds but there are larger and smaller options to suit.

All of which would need to be matched by the actual sound quality to mean anything. The biggest surprise is the quality of sound. How on earth is it achieved in such budget priced earphones? These are as far away from the price competition as it is possible to get, in a stroke reinventing the concept of inexpensive earphones. They have a clean, clear punchy bass. Clarity in the upper register is diamond clear though please give them a couple of days of serious listening to let the drivers settle down. Across the whole spectrum the sound is even and clear. My Senn HD485 cans are ALMOST as good as these but now given the choice between open £100 cans and these, I genuinely go for these! In large Bruckner symphonies the whole orchestra stands out without the usual blurring of the different frequencies. Add more volume and the quality is not lost. In such bargain priced units I can't quite understand how other manufacturers get away with their sonic offerings!

Well how is it achieved? I have an idea that it is designed that way. The overall impression is one of intentionally designed excellence. The angled jack plug, the cord sleeve to avoid tangles, the single piece build to ensure durability all reflect the design that has gone into the units. One small example that shows the care taken; the 'L' and 'R' are embossed on each rubber ear sleeve. The 'L' has a small raised dot underneath. So pick up the buds and a blind man (literally) can instantly get them in the correct ears. Priceless!

    Amazing sound and great fit

I have been using the MA450i now for the past two weeks and I'm very satisfied.
The sound is absolutely fantastic. I would have never thought that you can get sound quality like that at such a reasonable price. I was also more than pleased about the choice of different sizes of ear tips. Once you find the right size the fit is very comfortable.
I strongly recommend these earphones for everybody who is looking for excellent sound quality at an affordable price.

Absolutely amazing. I have been using these for around 3 months now and are still working perfectly. The bass is strong and the volume is great. You hear every detail of any song that comes out of them. I have worn beats and if I'm honest they are nothing special. These are £40 and you can't question their price for the quality of sound they produce for it. I personally listen to a range of music genres and I found every song I have listened to through them has been crisp, clean and critically perfect. I would not pay £120+ for Beats Audio when you can get better quality for three times less than the cheapest pair of Beats headphones. Don't contemplate buying them if you have got this far to read the review. The noise isolation is good too, they come with a range of ear bud sizes that are changeable so you will definitely find a size for you. They block out majority of the sound apart from anything loud within 2 feet of you. Otherwise they are perfect, can't recommend enough.

    Unrivalled quality for the price.

Picked this up as a replacement for a faulty set of headphones of another well-known brand and had heard good things about these offering more for the money. Need to remember to thank whoever it was that recommended these as they're excellent.

Before talking about the sound I want to say how good these headphones are as a package. For the price you get aluminium earphones, fabric cable, iPod/iPhone remote, seven sets of tips (in a nice little box) and a three year warranty - I don't think there's any other product out there offering as much.

Sound wise, the MA450i are fantastic. They offer a much greater degree of clarity than my previous earphones, vocals really sounding crisp and the bass punchy but not overpowering. I tried out a variety of different genres and couldn't really fault them in any of the tests. The tip choice means I was able to get a well-fitting pair and the sound isolation so far has been very effective used on the underground and buses.

All in all, they're an excellent investment for the money. Couldn't ask for more from a product costing as little as this does. Excellent build, isolation, sound, extras. Class all round.

    Great sound, fantastic customer service

Purchased a pair last November, the sound quality is superb, so much so I bought my son a pair for Christmas. When my pair developed a fault 3 months later I contacted RHA directly, via their website. Fantastic customer service followed. I had an email response within an hour and with no fuss at all I was sent a replacement pair of headphones, which I had in my hand within 24 hours.

The sound quality of these earphones is second to none, I bought them as an upgrade to my standard earphones and to be honest wasn't expecting much. They are worth far more than the money and it's nice to see a British company looking after the customer for a change.

I'm a (budget) audiophile and have a pair of Grado SR80is and a tube headphone amp for home listening, which together are worth about £200. I wanted a cheap pair of earphones that wouldn't kill me to lose or break, but still did justice to the music I was listening to out the house. These RHAs did not disappoint.

Apart from a narrower soundstage they are almost as good as the Grados. They don't have the same incredibly warm mids, the highs aren't as clean and defined, and the bass is a little fatter than I like. However, they're not as far apart as the prices would suggest and they're fun to listen to, which is the most important thing.

I liked them so much that when my dog ripped up my first pair I went out and bought another. I was pleased to see they revised the design to a right angle jack and sturdier construction, while they also sounded better out the box. The pouch is also no longer a felt dust magnet.

I was slightly disappointed when the right channel on the second pair died after two months, but the warranty claim only took two days - I submitted my claim on Tuesday, and a replacement arrived on Thursday. You'd be hard pressed to find a pair of high-end earphones with a 3 year warranty, let alone a budget model, and rarer still a claims process so hassle free.

I'm really pleased to see a homegrown company getting everything right, and they certainly deserve to become a big name in audio.

    Very disappointing

    • Written by from LONDON

After reading the stellar reviews for these earphones, I decided to get a pair. I returned it one day later.
While they offer more detail throughout the entire sound palette than the Apple EarPods, they're very poorly calibrated by RHA, resulting in an extremely trashy, shrill and even hissing type of sound. The bass line is fine, but everything on the medium and higher frequencies is calibrated with such high treble that it makes for a very unpleasant listening experience. I listen mainly to classical music (especially opera) and the sound lacks depth and color. Brass sounds horribly shrill and completely overpowering. Same applies for voices, with lower male voices lacking any depth.

Another big deal breaker for me is the poor isolation of the cable. RHA claims that the fabric around the wires is supposed to reduce entanglement. Nothing against that. However, not having any rubber between the fabric and the actual wire is a serious design fault resulting in all the noise resulting from the cable hitting something being transferred directly to your ear which is extremely unpleasant (thumps, scratches, everything).

To sum it up, I think that for a lower price, the EarPods provide a better overall experience: I don't find them as detailed throughout the sound palette as these, but you can still hear everything and the frequencies are much better calibrated.

Great sound quality but very poor manufacturing quality.

    • Written by from Midleton

I bought these in October 2012 and loved them, the sound quality was great as was the noise cancelling, not to mention the longer lead being handy.

By January the wiring was coming apart by the remote. I phoned Apple, got a replacement and by May the same thing was happening again. I got another replacement and by December 2013 the microphone stopped working. I've come to the conclusion that the quality of product build from RHA leaves a lot to be desired. Trying the Ultimate Ears 400vi next.

    Broke after 6 months

    • Written by from Toronto

I never have a broken headphone before.. (usually they are lost..). Despite coming with 6 different sizes of plugs, none actually fit well enough to my ears such that they don't fall out once in a while.

And my right earplug is now broken after 6 months, the wire must have become loose inside.

I am not that big into headphones...headphones are headphones...but a friend recommended I try these and as I needed a new pair and these weren't out of the way, I bought a pair and I really can't believe the difference! The sound quality is so much better than I'm used to. I didn't realise just how different sound could be! I also liked the 3 year manufactures warranty.

Excellent In-ear headphones made in the UK

    • Written by from Cardiff

I bought these headphones only by chance. I had bought a Sennheiser set which luckily in this instance were faulty. These in my opinion are superior producing clear sound and tone. Just as another reviewer wrote I am listening to my music collection like I've never heard it before picking up new sounds and instruments. The remote and speaker are both great - I recommend these especially as they are such a low price. Great value for money.
