Manufacturing fault - shows up in about 6 months.

    • Written by from Gosport

The unit works well but has a manufacturing fault in that the battery & base plate extend over the black running bars and now after 6 months has resulted in a scraping & wear to baseplate. Mobee are aware of this and have replaced the battery/base plate but this has the same issue. They are working on a fix for this. Shame as a good idea.

What is all the fuss about

    • Written by from TRURO

I have had one of these for I suppose two years - I very rarely have it drop out certainly no more than the regular mouse I use in the office.
It charges quickly - when it does run out a few minutes on the charger will allow more use and then all I have to do is plonk it onto the charger in-between use, pick up when i need it, put it back when not actually using the mouse.
Certainly can leave mouse switched on to charge - I never turn the mouse off
No problems with the "flimsy" back - why do you need to take it off in any case?
    Lasts several days.
Excellent - the only thing I would agree with is the battery level indicator -

    poorly designed product

The battery pack didn't fit into place well in my mouse. The metal tab snapped. Charging slow, sometimes weirdly didn't charge at all.

    Plastic Can Break

    • Written by from RADSTOCK

Wanted to add a 2015 review. I've had one of these Mobee units since they came out. Apart from the base rubbing sightly on the desk (see below), it has always worked well. Never once has it lost connection! It lasts several days of heavy use - I charge it less than once a week overnight (Mac in sleep mode)!

Yes, the battery level on the menu bar seems hit or miss, but after reading (on here) that I need to pop the battery out after charging to reset the level, it's fine (6% jumped to 95%)!

And, ironically, as my cousin (150 miles away) and I both found out on the same day, the battery compartment - or, sled - is plastic! I noticed by chance, and he broke his! It has to be plastic though, as it is charged inductively! Metal will shield this process. Try putting some thin tin foil between the charger and mouse!!!

Hence (from above) why there is a slight rubbing... The plastic 'sled' is thicker than the wafer thin original aluminium base! The mouse still slides around my desk with minimal effort! NOTE: Both my cousin and I were thinking of cutting off the battery compartment (off the sled), machining some slots in the original base (to allow the inductive charging to work), and glueing the two parts together - for a better fit! We both have way too much free time!!! :-)))

    Nice concept but lacks quality

    • Written by from Belfast

I have had the Mobee Charger for just over a year now. The biggest issue is the battery pack fit. I have to put paper inside the mouse to stop the connection dropping all the time. Not something you would expect to do considering the price. The outside area of the battery pack is starting to turn a strange pinky, white color - I looks as if it is melting or burning. However the concept of how the charger works and the way it looks has been well designed its just a shame about the quality and not to mention I am wondering about whether it is safe to continue using the charger.

    Stops working almost straight away

    • Written by from New York

    Great idea - terrible execution.
Manufacturing is of such poor quality that the unit stops working after a week max. The battery unit that you slot into your mac magic mouse doesn't stay in place and eventually breaks off, making it useless. Don't buy.

    Nice idea, not practical

    • Written by from Flitwick

Got one of these and wasn't impressed, for starters the battery unit doesn't hold a lot of charge compared to regular rechargeable batteries but with that a side even keeping the battery unit doesn't stay in place. After the second time of taking the battery unit off my magic mouse the mechanism broke and now doesn't stay in. It would also be nice if the charger was QI compatible but it isn't.

Overall I gave up using it.

    I love this device.
Has "Apple" written all over it, and is a fantastic add-on to the IMAC for instance.
One thing I would say, is that the mouse will suffer the often posted issue with losing bluetooth as a result of the battery contacts sometimes not "contacting"
It has been posted that if you insert sme tinfoil to act as a bridge between battery terminal and mouse contacts, this will cure the problemm, and I believe this to be the case.

I had the issue, but now I don't, and not all people report it. Would stop me recommending it, I think its a cool device.

About a years use and it no longer works

    • Written by from Bradford

Had one of these for about a year now, and the thing just will no longer power the Magic Mouse. It still charges but doesn't seem to output any power. Terrible build quality, the battery pack looks very worn out after a year of use.

I was really impressed with this product at first but after about 4-5 months that's when problems started, frequent connectivity dropouts etc. I think I'll stick to buying a pack of batteries and keep them in my bag, at least then I'll never have to worry about the power dropping out again.

Not impressed at all. Stay away.

    • Written by from Elmesthorpe

Battery gives wrong indication of change. If you lift if off the mat it loses connection. Most infuriating of all it will not charge sitting on the pad. I have to take the battery pack out and put that on the charger without the mouse so it will charge! Useless.

    The charger that charges

    • Written by from SLOUGH

I found the mobee magic charger charges very well that's all I found that was any good
The product is ill fitting And it's rubbing away the metal casing because there Isn't enough clearance from the two black raised sections I took it back to apple store and they have replaced . With this one there's not much difference it's still sitting on the metal at the store they told me that the battery had expanded and that's why it's pushing it out but I think it's a very bad product and I wouldn't recommend it I will go back to the batteries fairly soon

Poor - rubbish battery life, does not fit properly

    • Written by from BRISTOL

I bought a brand new mouse and Mobee charger online from Apple a couple of months ago; the battery pack in the Mobee does not fit properly and the battery life is less than two days. If I forget to charge it overnight, it's guaranteed that I will have to take the battery pack out and put in ordinary duracells before the end of the second day.

    Cannot fault it

    • Written by from Oxford

I am puzzled about the contradicting reviews, I have to admit. I have had a perfect experience so far. I have had the set for over a year and it has rarely run out. And when it did, it was entirely my fault. I have connected the base station to a permanently powered multiple USB port, which means I can recharge overnight. But I only remember to do so every now and then and still the battery lasts and lasts.

The only reason I have given four and not five stars, is that the battery level announcement on the screen are not useable. If that information was accurate, then I could truly find no more fault. But even with this one issue, I am glad I invested in this device!

    Poor Performance

    • Written by from london

Unlike other reviewers, I have had nothing but trouble with this item. tired with members of the team constantly asking who had a set of charged batteries, I thought this product would be an ideal solution. I purchased 3 or 4 sets and gave them to some of the team to try out. Within a week they had all reverted back to standard chargeable batteries, as they all experienced the same issues, constant lack of connection to paired keyboard, and short battery life (like 1 hour)!!! Maybe it's just a faulty batch, but I'm certainly not getting a single whole days use out of any of our purchases.

For the frustration in constant loss of connection alone I couldn't recommend this product, but when you couple that with appalling battery life, why would you bother?

Use Common sense & its a great accessory

    • Written by from Hong Kong

Use common sense , do not charge on metal surface , fit the battery unit with care push the clip into place , understand it will only ever show lower readings on the settings display ,thats because the voltages are slightly different to original non rechargeable batteries , I have been using mine for 6/7 months now , and bought a second one for home use , and despite the attentions of a ten year old boy bouncing it over the playground Both work well and are stylish and convenient , I leave my mouse on all the time as I forget and I get 3 to 4 days usage and I am working all day on my Mac Book Air .
