Companion 5 adds depth to the sound which Companion 3 lacks off. It makes a huge difference to listening to music and movies.

I've owned these for a few years now and spent so much time listening to them that I didn't have time to write a review.

The desktop speakers look great and have a good spread of sound. The bass unit is quite big, but I have mine tucked away under the desk and out of site.

If you go for something with a bit of va va voom about it, such as "War machine -ACDC" or "Whole lotta love - Led Zepplin" you get a real sense of the balance between the massive bass unit and the desktop speakers.
The sound is very impressive for the money.

The control "puck" is brilliant too, a simple touch on/off and a volume ring that allows you to really annoy the neighbours. It goes very LOUD if you want it to.

I'm glad I went the extra and got these over the 3.

    Only a few phrases can describe the sound produced by these speakers. One of the them is;
    'mind bogglingly good!!'

    Beautiful design. Beautiful Sound.

I simply could not recommend these speakers more - and I am the sort of person that never writes a review of products.

For the price tag, the design and build quality is exceptional and the sound is as rich and true as you could possibly want, right through the ranges and across the genres of music. The coup de grace is the control disc that sits on your desk (in our case) or table/shelf at home - the movement and functionality is a joy to operate.

I wish I had shares in Bose...

    Crisp and punchy

I am delighted with this system.

It delivers crisp treble without it being harsh and a solid, punchy bass line from the Acoustimass module. It is more than powerful enough when connected to a PC, the design is minimalist, unobtrusive and the build quality is far better than your average PC system. Versatile as you can plug in other devices via the 3.5mm jack connection and the control module is simple to use. Some may argue it is a little expensive but if you've already bought an iMac or MacBook and want a system that produces good sound and is of sturdy build quality, I doubt if you will be disappointed.

i was douting buying these speakers because of the heavy price tag but WOW the sound that comes out of these speakers is just MAGIC!! iv been looking and testing different sound systems for the last two months and i fell in love with these, i have the bowers and wilkens sound dock for my iphone and i though that produced good sound, but the bose companion 5's blow it out the water.

It really does play tricks on your ears! it feels like the sound is surrounding you and gives you a true surround sound feel, im so happy with my investment! been using it mostly for music the GREAT!! love them!

i also tryed the bose companion 3's which also produce beautiful sound, but was lacking the surround sound technology, and these definitely beats its competitors, you can forget logitects z-5500's these companions 5's really do the business, you wont regret buying these!

These speakers are really great. I have set them up for use on my Sony Wide Screen TV . They knock the socks off the Sony's internal speakers, are better than many 'Dedicated' sound systems but are considerably cheaper than BOSE TV sound systems.
    Great!!!

IWhen I watched my first film with these speakers, all I could remember was saying "oh my gosh" over and over again. It really did bring my films to life and its just a pleasure watching any film with these speakers in place. The sound instantly filled the room, the sound is clear, sharp and very well balanced. Also the piece of technology that allows these speakers to sound like they are "surround sound" is good but not great. If you insist that your films/music must be of 5.1 standard for any reason or 2, these are not for you.

If your a bass seeking junkie and enjoy listening to drum and bass, hip hop and rap music. If all you care about is now much the floor vibrates and how many neighbours you can annoy simultaneously in the space of 3minutes then these are not your speakers. I personally found that these speakers give a a balanced but powerful bass when needed. The bass is clean but not intrusive, its NOTHING like your typical subwoofer unit in modded cars.

This was my first ever purchase of a BOSE product, and I am pleasantly surprised on how good these speakers are. I was quite skeptical at first paying £300 on just computers. But I kid you not, they are not JUST computer speakers.

I bought these speakers on the advice of my friend. He told me not to buy the Companion 3 Series II because of a low humming sound even when not on.

I am happy he told me this because they are by far the best speakers available on the market... why buy a sony surround sound system for your house when you can get these, compact, stylish & there that good with the bass that im scared of my neighbours complaining haha.

If your unsure, go to the Apple shop like I did and the people there will show you how good they are and you can test them yourselves.

Dont buy anything else but Bose.

After much deliberation over many months (if not years) I finally took the plunge and bought the Bose Companion 5 speakers. I have to say they are fantastic. Worth every single penny! The clarity is superb, and the bass even better. Such a well rounded sound. Still amazed at how much sound comes from this relatively small package.

Really a great buy, and would buy them again if the senario arose. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for excellent, second to none sound.

Better than C3 and better than any other PC speakers I've heard.

Spent ages deliberating over the price of these and whether it would be worth spending the extra £100 on these over the C3.

I am so glad I went for the C5s as these are the best speakers I have owned. They are crisp, very well balanced and incredible for movies. Used to own a set of Altec Lansing CS21s which I thought it would be hard to top but these C5s did the trick.

As well as sounding the part they look so smooth in a room as all wiring can be neatly hidden with only the pod and speakers on show. A mystical and powerful bass accompanies them from an unseen corner of the room.

Best purchase I have made, complements my new PC brilliantly. Keep up the good work Bose.

I have tried many desktop speakers and headphones over the years. Bose offers an incredible package. I bought them 2 days ago. The spatial sound gives the listener the impression that they are somewhere else other than in front of a screen. The key for me to a good set of speakers is what they are like turned down low. These are very good indeed. I did try the B&Ws in the Apple store, but the Bose in my view are a better buy. I'm looking forward to many hours listening without being irked by distortion, distraction or having to search for the sounds I can't hear on run of the mill speakers. One post script.... the quality of workmanship in the product itself is superb. The package exudes quality both in terms of sound and hardware. Completely satisfied!

An amazing set of computer speakers.

Days after days of internet searching eventually came down to this decision, and by heck was it worth it! The speakers are of immense sound quality producing precise and realistic sounds for a range of my music at home, from peaceful and elegant vocals, to ground rumbling bass produced by the magnificant sub-woofer. Although a little pricy, you can rely on Bose to bring lifelong quality to their products, so for me it is a definite worthwhile investment. I also easily plug in my iPod to the audio input port on the nifty, easy to use 'pod' that comes with the speakers using a 3.5MM TO 3.5MM JACK CABLE which can be bought at a cheap price.

This beautiful product, brought to us by Bose once again, fully satisfies the needs of anyone in search of a computer speaker set, and more...

great speakers! but the audio cuts out randomly and i have to restart the computer and the speakers to get the audio back.

have contacted bose and they know nothing so until apple or bose sort this out wouldnt recommend buying it.

this speaker uses a usb for the main input so it depends on the software that runs it, the problem could be the hardware but it is very unlikely since i tried it with my ipod on the input port located in the audio puck and works fine.

I deliberated for a while over these and whether to opt for something cheaper. I already own a Bose Acoustimass system that we use in our living room, so I'm used to listening to quality and knew I needed to get something good for my new iMac otherwise I could well be disappointed! The Bose Companion 5 system is amazing- the richness, depth and clarity is astounding, and it's a real pleasure listening to music through these speakers. A number of other speaker set-ups have short cable lengths meaning you can only really place speakers next to your monitor. The cables with this system are more than long enough, so I've got the bass unit hidden away and the 2 satellite speakers placed around the room. The bass unit is fairly large and intended to be hidden away but the speakers would be fine for desktop use if that's what you want.
