Its all pro and no cons

After Reading all of the reviews I was a little worried about spending £20 on software. Especially as I previously had free software on the PC.

QuickTime had been highly recommended by a few friends, so I spent the £20 and went for it. I'm so glad I did !! The output quality was perfect from a avi to iPhone and a 20 min video converts in about 8 mins. Then after clicking on the file, imported it directly Into iTunes. I couldn't have asked for a easier app. Well done apple.

Ps. Although other reviews are saying it doesn't play certain files, do they know about the free addons ? Divx etc

I needed a program for converting various video files to play on devices like the iPod and Playstation 3. Quicktime Pro works perfectly for this.

All my encoding needs in one package. Perfect.

This product is good, and as another reviewer says, it "does what it says on the tin". I find the easy Audio Recording feature particularly useful when I'm just playing with ideas.

But come on, everyone knows this functionality should be built into Mac OS X as standard...

Be aware

I got this product to convert my digital camera videoclips from MPEG1 to MPEG4 to be enable to use the clips in iMovie. The problem is, that the sound is gone once I convert. If you need to convert smal videoclips - then get the MPEG Streamclip.

Otherwise its a fair product.

Offering a variety of different options, QuickTime Pro does exactly what I wanted it to do - it converts videos to different formats (including iPhone and iPod friendly formats) easily, however for large files, don't expect the process to be fast, it can take some time to convert.

Also remember the ability to create the files you want is entirely dependant on Quicktime being able to open the files in the first place - and whilst getting the pro upgrade does expand the range of files you can play to a certain extent (including FLV for example), its only as good as the codecs installed on your system.

inadequate support

Many years ago I bought QuickTime Pro. It has been moderately useful and updated to the current version. Twice now all my bought downloads have disappeared from my computer and from my Apple page, including QuickTime Pro in each case. Over the last two month with the help of AppleCare I have restored everything else (I think) from the last disaster. But although I enter my code into the QuickTime Registration panel, nothing happens except that my code disappears. There is nothing wrong with my code which is written down on my MacBook and on paper. The problem is somewhere else and presumably with either Apple or the QuickTime service.

Great for video editing...

I see an awful lot of people getting hot under the collar about this upgrade. The fact is that this is a piece of software designed to work with Apples other Pro App's (ie, Final Cut Studio, etc) and for that it's an indispensable tool. Export files, trim files which have been a left a little long on the time line, compress for upload, separate audio from the video, etc, etc. This offers some great tools which I use almost daily and get driven mad if I don't have them to hand when on another Mac...

I upgraded to Pro to unlock the export feature which I wanted to use for my home videos from my digital camera. Well, it says it converts to the format for iMovie, so I bought it. When I export, it does not take my audio from the video. I wish I knew this before I spent $30. This is messed up.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Apple have really screwed up QuickTime with the latest version 7.3.1! Since installing it I upgraded to Pro. However, it won't work with .mpg files... you cant make a selection because the selection 'handles' are not there! So, you can't copy, cut or paste... which kind of defeats the object doesn't it? The really stupid thing is... if you've previously saved an mpeg using the previous version of QuickTime... and with the selected frames in 'Play selection only' mode... your movie will happily play the selected frames... except you cant see the selection or the selection handles, or gain access to them!

SO BEWARE... ONCE YOU INSTALL THIS VERSION, YOU CAN'T GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS VERSION... SO YOU'RE STUCK WITH SOMETHING THAT NO LONGER WORKS PROPERLY! Man... I love Apple too, but who is overseeing this kind of rubbish that you'd only expect from Gates?

Did what I wanted

Could not import MPEG1 Muxed video from iphoto into imovies. Downloaded QT pro 7 - exported to iphotos as Quicktime movie - imovie read the files and now part of a movie project/DVD. I read somewhere that mpeg1 muxed format combines audio with video - so after export left with only video (no audio), but no worries as audio on this occasion not required. 20 quid well spent to get the footage I wanted into imovie project. Registration process easy following link from online invoice to website.

OK, maybe I didn't read all the details but I upgraded to quicktime pro and have found out after wasting most of the day that it doesn't play dvd's. Apple have to make that a lot clearer than they do. Buyer beware!

Makes movies just about watchable on my old Mac computer. It is still not perfect but good enough for me. I am pleased with the purchase and can recommend it.

I, too, am surprised at the negative comments on QuickTime Pro. I use it pretty much every day for resizing video, converting audio. It works for me!

like loads of folk before me I got Pro to help with loads of issues I had with getting movie files to my iPod. It didn't resolve them, there was no one to talk to about it AND as soon as there was an upgrade my key was invalid. complete rip off. Don't buy. There are better programmes out there.

After reading most reviews on this product which were kinda low I was wondering what's the problem with this.
But I bought Pro for exporting videos into smaller formats like playback on my phone, resizing for video streaming in online sites and saving trailers.

dont buy this product its useless.alot of my files where named mpeg1 muxed.i thought pro would help me sort this out and enable me to put videos on my ipod.but it still doesnt work.why do apple bring out these products without any software to go with it.its all a con.

all i want to do is put quicktime movies on my ipod n watch them.but apple wont let you do this.u even have to pay for the upgrade,and when you get it,it only lets you put selective file son.its not worth it.
