What is the difference between the S1500 and the S1500M?
Is it simply that the "M" version comes bundled with Adobe Acrobat for Mac OS, or are there any other differences?
The difference in price for the "M" version seems significant and given the capabilities of Preview as a PDF tool I'm struggling to find justification to need Acrobat.- Asked by Paul N

The PC version states that it scans duplex - does this version do the same?

AnswerYes it does.
And VERY quickly too!
Hence why everyone should own the S1500M machine if they really want to be serious about going paper-free. It really worked for me, and several friends also use one accordingly, as nothing really competes with it.- Answered by James S

IS THIS SCANNER COMPATIBLE WITH MICROSOFT PC COMPUTERS

AnswerI run the S1500 on my imac using fusion and windows XP.
The scansnap S1500 is the best investment I have ever made. I have scanned hundreds of documents successfully, on a virtual PC on my Mac.
The software included offers MAC OS X versions, however, there is a greater software package if you use the windows version. Besides the S1500M is more expensive!
i cant recommend enough the scansnap. It makes a cluttered messy paper home office into a minimalists dream!
Just ensure you do backups onto your time machine or burn DVD/CDs off and store securely.
According to the scansnap website the official line is that all current market products namely both versions S1500 & S1500M are cross platform with relevant software drivers provided.
The only choice is which software package - The windows version wins hand down! So use Fusion etc to get windows on your Mac!- Answered by Andrew R

Are you able to scan photo card driving licences and uk passports?
- Asked by Richard H from Ebbw Vale

AnswerI would doubt it - the photo card on the driving licence is plastic, isn't it? That would just break as it went through the scanner. A passport might work, but it's probably a bit thick to go through. This is probably a job for a flatbed scanner.

How much memory does it take up to store document files?(same as jpeg or less)
- Asked by Jitendra S from Mississauga

AnswerSmall file size!
(by "memory" you really mean "storage" here don't you.)
To explain further. You can set this in the settings, but even when using the high quality settings, the results this machine gives are brilliant for a fairly small file size.
I have compared it with the so-called competition, and they neither deliver the amazing results this machine does, nor do so in as efficient a file size.
All the software supplied, except Acrobat, works on Mac and Win machines (Acrobat is the decider: Mac version comes with S1500M, Win version comes with S1500).
Get one, trust me you won't regret it as everyone should own the S1500M machine if they really want to be serious about going paper-free. It really did the job for (one machine at home, one in my office), as nothing really competes with it.- Answered by James S

Answer
It will turn photos into .pdf files, so i would use a flatbed scanner for photos instead. This scanner shines when scanning documents, either singles, or sets of documents. I have many in service, even in dusty environments they last well.

Can this scanner be used on a network? IE have more than one computer share this scanner

AnswerNo, afraid not. It has to be connected directly through a wired connection.
Dunno why you can't get an affordable home/soho wireless network doc scanner myself (I've looked around) but that's they way it is currently.
If you want a machine that is wirelessly networked, you need the Fujitsu N1800 model, which unfortunately costs around 3 times this one (fairly good though, given other network doc scanners are several thousands, on average!).
For a reasonably affordable wired machine, this S1500M is still the best on the market IMO (I've tried many), so don't hesitate getting one if you really need to get docs or photos scanned into either .pdf or .jpg format.- Answered by James S

Mountain Lion: software FULLY compatible?
Does all the S1500M software work on Mountain Lion?
Specifically, the most important software it comes bundled with is "Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro" — does this work on Mountain Lion?
(upgrading Acrobat would cost half the cost of the machine if it doesn't, hence why this question is so important !!)
I have tried to contact both Fujitsu and Adobe; but get no clear answer. Making buying this at the moment an impossibility.- Asked by James S
