Can I connect a printer?
Can I connect a printer to the USB port and print all my job from my ipad??

The dock does not have a USB port, only a Dock Connector. If you want to connect USB devices to the iPad, buy the Camera Connection kit. Note, however, that it only officially supports cameras, and unofficially supports things like keyboards and headsets. The iPad does not currently support direct printing, however I'm not sure whether there are apps on the app store for network printing--try that.

Will the keyboard dock and iPad dock fit the iPad 2? It's dimensions are thinner, but will these docks be compatible with it?
Keyboard compatibility to the iPad 2

I called Apple to ask, since I wanted one for my ipad2. They said it "can" fit but does not recommend it because of the differences in the two ipads. They said that dock and port are not completely aligned correctly so by using it, you could bend or break the pins in your ipad2. The dock will work though but at your own risk. Apple suggested that I get the wireless keyboard instead. I asked if they were making the keyboard dock for the ipad2. They said not at this time.

Can I write my novel on the ipad comfortably?
I am working on a novel. I know there is no MS Word but there is Pages, and I guess there are no other programs that are word processing programs on the ipad, so perhaps I couldn't do it. But, would it be possible with the keyboard, to write my book and other creative writings using the ipad?
- Asked by Karen K from East Meadow

Best Answer
MS Word like Pages are both full blown word processing programs that require a PC or Mac. Personally after using both Word & Pages I prefer Pages because its less bloated and more intuitive. The Pages that is sold for use on the iPad for $10 is a light version of Pages (but anticipate upgrades in the near future) so you will not have all the bells and whistles of a full program. That being said you are still free to use the iPad to write your novel.
The iPad offers a more distraction free environment for those of us with ADD like symptoms. The portability is also amazing. By purchasing the Apple Keyboard dock you can rotate the iPad in portrait or landscape mode through investing in a female to male 30 pin connector for $14.95. The solid feel of the keyboard inspires one to write short and long reports and yes, even novels. Give it a try.- Answered by Russell H from Berthoud

Best Answer
There is a small 6-page (English) manual in the box. It describes the 13 special keys at the top of the keyboard (some are familiar, others not). The other pages contain no surprises.

Yes, fully. Although some advocate care with the connector as it may not be as solid as with the original iPad due to the different shape.

If I have a wireless keyboard from my iMac, will it work with the iPad?
- Asked by Terry B from Fredericksburg
- 18-Apr-2010

Best Answer
Yes. It's very easy to pair a Bluetooth keyboard to your iPad. You'll need to unpair it from your iMac in the Bluetooth menu. Then on your iPad, go to the General Settings and set Bluetooth to the On position. A dialog will appear when your iPad is discovered by the keyboard and it will prompt you to enter a series of numbers. Type them on your keyboard, press Return and you're set.

Is there a Dvorak keypad layout available for use with regular iPad apps?
I use the Dvorak layout for typing. I have an iPad. I would like to be able to type on my iPad using the Dvorak layout. There are many keyboard layouts - how about including Dvorak?

I have an iPad and also use the Dvorak keyboard -- the best keyboard to type on for extended periods. The Apple store rep that helped me had never heard of it, but we discovered in the store together that the on-screen keyboard only has 3 options (Qwerty, Azerty and Qwertz). You can however change an external bluetooth keyboard layout to Dvorak, and this works fine for me as I rarely use the on-screen keyboard anyway. To change the external keyboard's layout go to Settings > General > International > Keyboards and from there you select "Choose a Hardware Keyboard Layout" from U.S. to Dvorak. Incidentally I went back to the Apple store and that same rep recognized me as "the Dvorak guy," and he's now switching keyboards himself!

What are the special keys for iPad features, that would not be found on the bluetooth keyboard?
I would prefer to use the stand-alone dock with the bluetooth keyboard; however, I'm concerned that the keyboard/dock combo advertises special keys for iPad, whereas the bluetooth keyboard makes no mention of special keys. What functionality would I be missing?
- Asked by Scott S from Bellbrook
- 17-Apr-2010

Best Answer
The special keys allow you to do things like adjust the brightness, go back to the home screen, scroll through apps, etc. This keyboard is unique to the iPad the way the way that the keyboard for a MacBook Pro is unique to it's computer which has brightness, volume and dashboard features, etc.

Got my iPad 2 today, and I am able to use it with the keyboard dock. It is slightly trickier to get the iPad 2 connected to the dock, due to the iPad 2's curved edge, but once it's in place, it is just as stable as the original iPad. The iPad 2 does lean back slightly more than the original though, but I don't see that as much of a problem.
If you already have the keyboard dock and are planning to get a new iPad 2, I don't see any show-stoppers. If you're contemplating buying a keyboard dock for an iPad 2, you might want to hold off for a new one that fits perfectly, or consider a bluetooth keyboard. It's not a bad fit at all, but obviously it's not as perfect as the original.- Answered by Michael B from North Richland Hills
