Most don't, but some cases, such as some of the Belkin range, have a removable bottom to dock, so instead of taking the whole case off, you just take the bottom off.

Speakerphone capability? mic in the dock? speaker in the dock? plug a mic and speaker into the dock ?
- Asked by Philip C from San Francisco

Answer
This dock connects your iPhone to your computer or Power Cable. It has an output for stereo as well. It does not have a microphone or a speaker built in, you can plug it in to a speaker through the port on the back but then again you can do that from the headphone jack on the iPhone...

does the iPhone 3G dock handle TV connection accessories?
- Asked by Nicholas L
- 14-Oct-2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
The person who posted the previous answer is incorrect in saying that there are no other output connectors. (other than the standard connector on the back of the dock, and the connector that the iPhone sits on) There **is** another connector on the back, it's an AUDIO OUT connector. This is confirmed in the 3G Dock's product description (scroll up to see it) which says: "there and an audio line out port for connecting to powered speakers."

Definitely not!
The *original* iPhone's dock works with iPhone 4, but the 3G/3GS one (this one) doesn't because it's moulded to the curved shape of the 3G's case.
