Turn-On Button on the Display to start my Macbook that is closed?
Greetings,
I am considering purchasing a 24'' LED Cin. Display for my Macbook (unibody).
Now I am wondering if I can close the Macbook, put it in one corner of my desk and turn it on only using the 24'' Display? Is there an "On"-button on the display, or do I have to open up my Macbook and start it like I do now and then close it again to have only the new external display run?
Hope you can help me out here!
Regards,

Actually you can. There's now a DVI to DisplayPort converter. It's by Atlona and it will set you back USD$179. Do a search for "Atlona AT-DP200" for more details. An easier way will be to simply buy a new video card with a DisplayPort output.

2 yr old MacBook - can it connect to the 24" LED cinema display?

Best Answer
It can't. Your MacBook has a mini DVI port. This monitor needs to be paired using the new mini display port. There are no converters for connecting a DVI output to display port devices.

24-inch display is glossy. Does Apple make a matte or dull display?
I can't imagine trying to edit photos with reflections glaring back at me. Or am I missing something? Apparently most people are okay with this?

Unfortunately, Apple does not currently manufacture a matte glass version of the Apple 24" LED Cinema Display. Personally, I like the glossy screen and reflections are not an issue because of my working environment, but everyone has there own tastes and environments.
Your options to cut down on glare are to purchase an anti-reflective film for the display or experiment with your working environment to minimize reflections.- Answered by EP from Mesquite

what cable do I need?
I have a new MacBook Pro (purchased June 2009). Does the 24-inch cinema display come with the necessary mini display port cable, or do I need to purchase one separately? And if so, what exactly do I need to buy? Thanks.

how do you link up a useful sound system to this device
for such an expensive yet beautiful product, the sound quality is poor. how do i connect a sensible set of speaker to this unit that will reflect the quality of the sound source rather than multiply the output of the "cinema display"

Best Answer
Any system would work, check the 'output' settings in 'sound' under 'system prefs' to change to that output. I recommend the 'Bose Companion 3' system.

Good question! I'd say, personally, yes. It can't really play cream HD content on it, like blu-ray, HD-TV, etc, but iTunes HD movies, similar things and so forth, will look very stunning on this screen.
Like the previous person said, you can't have HD audio, unless you get an external interface that connects via firewire to your computer, VLC player software, get an amp, then have a surround sound system connect to the amp. With that setup you'll have stunning near-HD sound.- Answered by DC from Lawrenceville

can you close the macbook pro and have the screen still work?

Best Answer
Yes, as long as you have a external keyboard, mouse and your pro is connected to a power source. First connect the monitor to the pro, next close the lid. The screen will go blank, then just wake your pro up with the mouse or pressing a button on a keyboard and the monitor should work.

Can this display connect to a Mac Pro Xeon Nehalem? If so which cables are needed to be able to connect the Mac Pro and the Mac LED Display?
- Asked by UH from Redmond

Best Answer
Yes you can connect this to your Nehalem Mac pro.
However, the cables are very short and currently there is no adapter for the Mini Display port to extend it. So you would need to have your Mac Pro next to the Screen or DIRECTLY underneath it :)
